Re: Sweltering Saturday!
Think I paid $4 for 1 tomato and 2 cucumbers last week here at our farm market, Blessed. Know I've been doing some double takes as well. But then I remember what it's costing farmers to just get produce to market! There's so many costs involved -not that there always weren't. It's just such a jump nowadays. Did notice -we paid $4.79/gal for gas on Tuesday (we get 10-cents off with a card). Yesterday it had dropped to $4.59/gal. Can only hope it keeps going in that direction. Know that where we get gas in FL it was down to $3.80/gal the other day. Same day we paid a $1.00/gal more.
Guess dbil is very pleased with all that DS-R has accomplished already. He's done about half of what dbil wanted him to do in 6 days. Speaking of dbil oncologist told him the other day that his esophogeal cancer is a 'fast growing' type. They are however going to try a treatment which if it works could give him quite a bit of time. If it doesn't he hasn't lost anything. It won't be a difficult treatment I guess.

Re: Sweltering Saturday!
The price for diesel (what most farmers use) is over a dollar more than the price of gas. At least it is that way here.
It took me longer to think through the process than to do it.
Plant germination is set up and operational. I have 4 trays planted with seeds = okra, beets, summer squash, and cucumbers.
The heat mat setup is being used to enable me to monitor the temperature of the soil. I typically germinate seeds at around 82F which is cooler than the current room temp. When i spray mist the soil, then it drops the temperature a degree. I don't know if this will work, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Now I wait to see what happens.
Play time is over. I need to turn my focus to DD11 bedroom and keep making progress on that painting project.

Re: Sweltering Saturday!
Wow, Bittersweet! I want to spend the day with you! We're heading to 95 degrees but then there's the heat index which reflects the humidly. As they say sometimes in this part of the south "It's not the heat, it's the humidity."
I started to post later yesterday afternoon but found it unposted on my computer this a.m. We SOLD the kitchen cabinets and counters, and they will be picked up tomorrow afternoon! Oh happy day, and a great way to end the week. Paid in advance in cash. And with choosing the countertops, life feels a little more settled, for a few moments.
We had dinner out with friends last night and even the restaurant was hot. We sat in the front area, by a windowed wall facing the street, so I suspect it overheats there. It felt warm. Then went for a walk around the block with friends through the entertainment areas by the famed train associated with my city. (Think Glen Miller) Now there are restaurants, bars, housing. It was busy and bands were loud. Some dancers in, ah, interesting attire, outside.
Harmony, I saw your comment yesterday about your trusses - I'm glad you eventually used them, lol.
I don't know what's in store for today. Friends last night were talking about The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and I had dropped out of watching it. Maybe I'll suggest a Netflix marathon since it's hot out.
Oy, this has been sitting her awhile. It's nice that workers aren't here today. DH got home from Torah study.

Track 29
S2Sed, Morning Daily Card done, good first meal at noon with extra spinach, extra laundry drip-drying.
Learning to use the new microwave, I've got my coffee method almost right, lol. (this is fancy coffee making, this is)
bittersweet, I'm very fond of that show. Which they'd have made more. I think the cast was perfect together.
LadyM, I miss the days when I had a flat-topped hot water heater that always seemed to germinate seeds perfectly.
Plant propagating - I will try today to do this from leaves. Wish me luck.

Re: Sweltering Saturday!
Taping and paper/cardboard spreading is complete, and it is time to start painting in DD11 bedroom.
However, before I got started on that, I paused long enough to prepare my first meal of the day and do the before/after bg testing required for my class. My lunch today is salmon filet, leftover sauteed mushrooms/onions, marinated red pepper slices and a few dill pickles slices.
DD11 is working on sorting, decluttering, and organizing her clothes. Everything that can be hung on a hanger will be. If there was an Olympic event to see how many clothes you could stuff into a drawer, DD11 would be the champion.

Re: Sweltering Saturday!
The first coat of paint is done! WOW! That seemed quick and easy compared to the slowness of prep/taping. Now we wait for it to dry and see if it needs a second coat. The previous wall color was a darkish teal color, and the new color is a light color. There is a high probability a second coat will be needed due to my inexperience and the dark to light color change. DD11 is thrilled with its fresh look. She calls it her "blank canvas" and is eager to start adding accent colors to the wall.
DD11 has filled up one 50-gallon trash bag with giveaways and now she is working on filling the 2nd bag. She has finished going through her clothes and is now working on the STUFF. Sorting & decluttering is a slow process, but she is sticking with it. She is watching videos while doing it.

Re: Sweltering Saturday!
I finished reading the book, undistracted it was excellent.
Listening to the you tube sessions of it.
There is one for Undistracted for widows. Most of it I've gone through.
Had lunch.
Prewashed fabric is dry.
Rinsed a jacket and it is drip drying outside.

CI:
It is 91 here, "feels like temp" of 98. EXACTLY as Twins said:
I haven't been out much at all! Just took dgd home and brought dgs back with me.
DH and dgd went out earlier and brought breakfast home. I'll go out later (maybe all three of us will) for supper.
Yesterday, we spent all afternoon visiting cemeteries of ancestors with ds & dgrands. In/out, in/out of the car. So hot. DS & dgrands ate with us and then ds & dgs went home. DGD spent the night.
LadyM -- I am just so impressed with dd and her organizing and decluttering efforts! I'm excited about her "new" room and I can't even see it!
I need some of her enthusiasm around here!
OTOH, dgd and I vacuumed and dusted master bedroom and bath last night, so that's something.
Sorry if this is TMI -- I am having a lot of stomach distress. Kinda worried about travel tomorrow -- only an hour or so away to church where ds is playing, but we will be with ds & one of the band members, and sometimes... when I've gotta go, I've GOTTA go. Right THEN. It worries me a little bit, but dh pointed out, when I had the colonoscopy, because I was worried about this exact same thing, the doctor said I was just fine inside, to add fiber to my diet. I did start taking fiber capsules, and situation improved, and I guess I slacked off and now it's back. But dh says there's no point in going back to the doctor if I'm not doing what he told me to do to begin with -- so I'm back on the fiber capsules again now, and gradually building up.
It sounds counteractive to me, to take fiber when what I really need is Imodium, but that IS what the doctor said. (Tomorrow I will probably take both!) I'm not nauseated, but I do feel tired all the time, and I want to eat All The Time... but sometimes I can't finish a meal before I'm running to the bathroom.
My dmom is doing great -- went to the beauty shop this morning, stopped for a grilled chicken salad to take home for lunch, needs no errands run by me, and is planning on going to church tomorrow. If Home Health catches her, they'll probably cut her off, LOL, but I'm glad she's doing so well.
Waving to ALL!!!

Re: Sweltering Saturday!
Sounds like a successful day of home changes/improvements.
I have reached a point of "the best I can do" for the leaves I hope to propagate. Nothing to do but wait and see now.
Wasps had been building a nest at a spot they could squeeze in on the side of the lid of my soil amendments "closet" (trunk?) outside. They had space for a fat cigar-shape of a gray nest. I really needed that potting soil. I took a shovel and pushed them off the side onto the ground. They mostly followed their fallen house and left me alone while I retrieved things, standing at the other side. HRH was astounded that I took the chance. He said he wished I wouldn't have chanced it, but it was needful.
We almost ordered food delivered but talked ourselves out of 1) the exorbitant price to accomplish it, 2) the exorbitant sodium in it. Either one able to douse the enjoyment.
Present ordered for the next birthday boy. Had wrapping paper ready for order, but HRH chose something virtually unwrappable and I must know my limitations. (sports stuff) So, I will believe there is a gift bag that will do this.
Also found orphaned antique "Sorry" game pieces on ebay, something I've been thinking the children would appreciate, since our gameboard they love has lost some. DgdC just adores the game and the fact that the board is an old thing newly discovered for her.

Re: Sweltering Saturday!
I did the second coat of paint in DD11 bedroom. I am declaring that part of this project is done.
DD11 filled a second 50 gallon bag with give aways. This one was declared filled by weight rather than volume.
I washed the outside and inside the drawers of DD11 chest of drawers and returned it to her bedroom. I washed all the shelves of the two bookcases and moved those back into her bedroom. Tomorrow I'll tackle her desk. I don't know if the markers and many paint drops can be removed but I'll give it a try.
When I look at the mounds of STUFF still in the living room it doesn't seem like a dent has been made in it. But I know this is part of the process. Eventually DD11 will reach a point where she is tired of going through the STUFF and declaring she is DONE. By that time, she will have retrieved everything that is important to her and put it in it place in her bedroom. She can declare everything left in the living room isn't wanted so she can be done. We will load the remaining things and get them out of the house. I see a BIG load going to our favorite charity soon.
I am ignoring the fact that we will start DS13 bedroom as soon as DD11 bedroom is finished. DS13 bedroom is going to be much worse. He wants to renovate it. He said his first action will be to remove all the wooden trim around doors and baseboards. He wants to replace the ceiling fan/light. He also mentioned replacing the 3 doors in his bedroom. Plus painting everything and new window treatment. Also, he wants to add an L shape couch. I'm okay with him doing this if he knows what he is doing. His 13 years old confidence can sometimes exceed his abilities. I don't have to think about it yet....so as Scarlett O'Hara says: I'll think about that tomorrow. Tomorrow is another day
Create your own pizza was a success. The kids like using their creative skills in selecting & assembling the toppings. DD11 tends toward keeping it plain with just 2-3 ingredients. DS13 likes to pile everything on until it resembles a mountain. DH and I choose to eat leftovers rather than pizza.
I am ready to sit and relax. Maybe watch an episode of Alone. I am watching them online through the History channel, so I have many past seasons/episodes to get through.
