I thought I would share another fall poem - aren't you thrilled :D

"Every leaf speaks bliss to me.
Fluttering from the Autumn tree."

Emily Bronte

dd younger said my mom told her - next time you should listen to me re: not leaving Naples. Mom does not understand the severity of the hurricane. dd is not angry with her but wants her to understand the seriousness of what is happening.

hello d harmony can the cats stay in the bathroom? I am so sorry he is so allergic to cats.
praying the battery works again
((((praying for you))) what town do you live in d harmony. If Rick doesn't leave - you can. Even if he stays at your house. If you feel it is safer to leave then you do what is good for you.
You are doing good - you have been getting rid of stuff and it's wonderful. It all takes time. You work very very hard.

praying for your family d dee!!

hang in there Harmony...We're going to get through this one way or another. We don't have a generator so who knows what will happen. Told Sweetie we can always go on vacation if the electricity goes out for a while. I know the Smokeys are very nice this time of the year and it will be much cooler up there. :D

Trying to stay away from the news updates on the TV. It is what it is....I hate waiting for the storm to hit. just get here and get it over with.

One of the toilets won't shut off. I knew several days ago but to tackle that now didn't seem important. DH's truck with the generator won't get started, he went off and bought another battery. Nephew is helping with that. Dbl doors aren't even protected yet. Big glass top ta ble is still outside we can't do these things until all the work is done. I've cut up the chicken I have, heating it and some baked beans...stuff that would have fed us through this and oh my but we have lunch I guess. DH brought home new innerds for the toilet. Fortunately I have 2 more toilets in this house.

Sheets are on 2 beds, the cats are in their crates but they will let them out in the bedroom where mother and daughter are staying. Good grief.

I typically don't get a lot of stuff before a hurricane...nephew has filled up refrigerator with coke and if we lose electric, I usually get enough for a few days and figure I don't want to waste all kinds of food so I'm not stocked up for this many. Trying to keep a happy face. I got out coloring stuff for (I think she's about 8) and a couple other things she can do.

A day at a time. An hour at a time.

DH won't go away. And now we can't with a house full of people. They are close to a canal and didn't feel safe there.

((((Hugs to those dealing with Ian)))))

I found a National Hurricane twitter feed and NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center Youtube channel that gives frequent and easy to understand updates.

Homeschool lessons are finished.

DH is home from staying with DMIL and is taking a much-needed nap. DMIl woke up at 2am and was up the rest of the night.

I have taken snippets from the top of flowering begonia plants that have been growing in the raised bed gardens all summer. I have the stem cuttings in cup of water to see if they will root. I am wondering if I can grow these continually flowering plants indoors during the winter months. ....endless experimenting....

I burned the firepit filled with weeds and branches this morning. Tomorrow I will transfer the ashes from the firepit to the garden beds.

LadyM, thanks for the Noaa link. I bookmarked it. I knew National Hurricane Center has stuff, I haven't taken the time to find it.

Latest snafu, DH tried to hook up the generator through the box (which he wasn't successful doing the last time he tried) and now we have no thermostat and it is getting warm in here. He is trying to adjust that, got it hooked up wrong. Our neighbors in back of us rode around the neighborhood to see who was still around etc. We had a nice chat out on the porch.

It's been sprinkling. Pre-hurricane rain. My legs are tired. I haven't been off them all morning.

We still have the doors to fix and the toilet. I need to adjust my thinking. I shall figure on people showing up and will get more canned stuff etc. I've had people the last 2 times and not prepared both times. People should let you know their plans in time to prepare. We are all waiting for the weather reports to confirm what's going on. We waited too, maybe going to adjust that thinking too. I had a cinnamon bread mix in the pantry and have made that.

Hope your DH can figure out the generator problem, Harmony. Lady M, thank you for that link. Find myself keeping close track as well. I shared your present 'company' status with DD, telling her she should feel fortunate she only has to deal with her Uncle.

Ugh! Cardiologist's office just called. He's called in the script for the Eliquis which he plans to keep him on indefinitely. Between his 2 heart meds and his COPD meds we're now suddenly looking at over $1,050 every 3 months just for those 3. Dh is not going to like that and I can hear him already. He'll at first say I'll just not take them, but we both know that won't happen. Will have to see what our insurance broker has to offer in the way of a different plan for next year. Just the COPD and the Eliquis have now added about $250/month to our output. Well as I said earlier....it is what it is. I'd rather have him with me and spend the money for sure! We'll adjust -it's just a new normal. (It's certainly been an expensive summer with still owing 3 different hospitals for his stays in all 3.) As I said, "Ugh!"
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Having family move in during an emergency would be an extra stress for sure. Especially if they didn't bring their own food, drinks, and kept their children entertained. My mind boggles at how I would handle that. I can only imagine lots of pbj sandwiches while getting through it one hour at a time. ((((Hugs, thoughts, and prayers))))

I took DS14 to a nearby town to get his pickup tag renewed.

After a nap and shower, DH left to stay with DMIL for the rest of the afternoon. He should be back home by bedtime.

Oh my goodness Harmony! DO NOT entertain! You are "hunkering down" to use Leslie Jordan's term, and you should do what you can but take care of yourself first! This is not invited entertainment. You have beds, hopefully they brought some food too? (Was discussing this with massage therapist this a.m. - he mentoring a younger massage therapist - must save something back for himself!) Nodding in agreement with LadyM. I'd be losing it!

I feel like I was tuned up. I tend to favor one hip and it drops on one side and lifts up and forward on the other, producing back and hip pain. Sometimes all the way down the leg too. I tend to go every week when I'm needing correction and every other week, or longer, the rest of the time. I needed it this week.

Now I have a little less than two months to wrap up the portfolio. What a detour I've had through the kitchen, out of town, and through the RH holiday, but I need to reel myself back in and get upstairs to my desk!

Thanks for the links, LadyM. It appears that we'll get some rain out of it too. We're right on the edge of the cone.

I made a plumber appointment for Monday. We have a leak in the garage where the water comes into the house. A friend who was here yesterday told dh it was at the regulator. We've had a bucket under it since Sunday and there's very little water in the bottom of it, so it's a slow leak for now. Plumber indicated that if it started leaking a lot more, they could get someone out earlier but there's no need right now.

(((Harmony, Rose and Dee's DD))). I am so hoping that you all come through this safely. Harmony, maybe it's good that you have younger people there with you. I hope your Dh can get the generator thing worked out and the other stuff done soon. Twins and Lady M are right!

Dee, Dh was taking the generic for Eliquis called Apixiban . He paid $11.00 copay through the VA. Maybe your doctor will change his script for that.

We have been watching the weather channel and AccuWeather channel for hurricane news. Something else is on now though.

Dgrandd and her fiance are pretty much settled in now. Their cat and our two cats are still trying to get used to one another; just a little hissing and trying to avoid each other.

I talked to my eldest son last evening and texted with middle dson this afternoon. Both families are ready as they can be. Both sons had to work today, but their businesses will be closed Wednesday.

I think I'll get my sewing out now.
