After working outside for as long as I could endure I came in to cool down. I am soaking wet with sweat. Still have a bunch of things to clean in my lanai, but I’m going to do that early tomorrow when it’s cooler.
In the meantime I have plenty to do inside.
Have my radio going and the song I danced with my students came on. This is when I worked in my last intercity school and it was the worst and toughest of the three intercity schools that I worked in.was made to drive a different route to school by my principal because she was concerned I would get shot driving the route I was using. She was me with my kids sitting in the grass in the front of the school… we were doing our class work and this was their reward for being so good… and called me into her office. Told me never to do it again. When I explained what we were doing out there, she told me to take the kids to the back of the school if I wanted to do this again.
When I asked why, she said she was afraid we would be setting ourselves up for a drive by shooting
Anyway I always had music going when the kids arrived in the morning. There was a school dance coming up and I asked if any of the boys wanted to learn how to do the Cha-Cha because girls loved boys who could dance. Their response was more than I could imagine. One of my favorite boys said… I do and the fun began
Just simple steps with easy turns and before long I was teaching all the boys that period how to dance instead of our science.
After that every morning before class I would turn on the music and would ask… who wants to dance with me. I never packed for partners and we all shared lots of laughs through the entire school year. Oh by the way these kids were the thugs wanna bees. One of the best and favorite memories I have of my boys.
Harmony… when this all settles down, you and I are definitely going to lunch together
Back to work….
