Lots of SHEs with different foci today.

Dee and dh and waiting. Dove is likely waiting to see how her recovery will go.

We have other SHEs with longer term waits, and those can be distracting.

Whether you have enough time to start a project is something we all struggle with, especially when we are so far behind and getting overwhelmed. Remember taking small bites helps progress things AND reset your brain as to what is possible. Set a 15 minute timer and do something for just that long. We all forget how much we can do with small chunks of time. On Saturday night I got the posters for Halloween printed off after dgs went to sleep and on Saturday at the start of naptime, I got the first set of three put up in the buildings. Each of those 'bites' just took 15 - 20 minutes.

The weather may be a challenge for some. Here is will be 77* with the humidex which isn't too bad except the heat is on. Every window is open and yet it only dropped to 72/74 overnight in all parts of the apartment and now that the sun is up, the apartment will heat up. And it is muggy. But muggy is better than super dry so I am not going to complain, give me 59%RH over 22% any day. It has been humid the past week and I'm down to just 2 severely broken nails from 6. It is funny how fast something like fingernails will respond to super dry conditions.

Today is Wet cleaning day for me. Do you remember how there used to be a wet cleaning day in the old SHE system? (Truth be told, my usual 'wet' day is Tuesday but between having dgs on Monday and the doctor's appointment all afternoon yesterday, I'm running behind.) My big zone chore for the day is getting down on my knees and hand scrubbing the kitchen chore. <check's records: this 'monthly' chore was last done 13 months ago.>

Finally, have you washed yet or are you still in your dressing gowns like me?

BTW: Harriet I use Dove soap and love it but as you say, the slivers at the end don't stick as well to the next bar. I've solved that by wetting the bars, wrapping tight in saran wrap, zapping in the microwave for 10 - 20 seconds, pressing this together, loosening the wrap and letting dry for several hours.

I managed to get that post written in 15 minutes!

I've already enjoyed my tea and chocolate out on the balcony, in my summer weight dressing gown instead of my fuzzy warm one. I'm enjoying this heat for late October because the cold will come soon enough. Tomorrow's high is 50 (as opposed to today's mid 70s.) Even then, I'll still be out on the balcony if I can be sheltered from the wind. At Hay Lake in September, I was on the porch each morning and some mornings the temperature was barely above freezing. So, despite the noise of the traffic, I'm trying to keep that feeling of early morning wonder for as long as possible since that was part of my brain reset.

Now to s2s and get going for the day.

Can you tell I remembered my ADD meds this morning by 7:15 instead of the usual 8:30?

Kathryn, you sound like my dh some mornings when he starts talking to me before I've had coffee. It comes out so fast and I just can't take it in!

I wasn't up until 8:45 or so. It's darker out - we had rain last night - but I think we're only cloudy today. Dh was out bowling, so I was on the couch reading and had our gas fire on - so cheery.

I am getting my hair cut at 11 so need to get going. At least it's not a 10 a.m. appt, thank goodness. I'd like to vote while I'm out too.

Soap discussion: I had always squished the new and old bars of soap together too, but dh think's it's disgusting, or something. So when I use Dove in the winter I can do it, but can't the rest of the year when we're sharing an antibacterial soap. He still favors Safeguard, which is hard to find now.

Bird flies 13,560km from Alaska to Tasmania non-stop.

Exciting news: A New World Record Godwit Flight!!
Late yesterday a juvenile godwit just 5 months old ( tagged in Alaska) touched down in Ansons Bay in northeast Tasmania and already a local birder is heading that way to look for it but very heavy rain in the area may make travelling to the site difficult. This godwit with the great number 234684 departed from Alaska on 13 October and certainly looks to have flown non-stop to Tasmania. This will not be the first one to make this flight as godwits are frequent summer visitors to Tasmania and we are sure this one was with a group but it is the first time a tagged bird has flown between Alaska and Tasmania. In the process it flew a minimum of 13,560km in 11 days 1 hour. The previous long distance record of 13,050km set by the adult male 4BBRW in 2021 is blown out of the water by this young upstart.
Many years ago Mark Barter and others wader biologists calculated the potential flight range for these birds was possibly 11-13,000km based on departure weights. It is a pity Mark is not alive to see this but this one is for you Mark.

Good Morning!

I haven't washed yet but I am dressed to shoes. I didn't have time to wash my hair before taking DD11 to school so I will do that part of AM routine (bath/wash hair) in a bit.

I have tweaked today's homeschool assignments (DS14 is working on them now), finished my daily Bible study, and had my first of six mini meals. I have my food planned for the day and the refrigerator is well stocked with leftovers. I'm thankful for not needing to cook for those two purposes (feeding myself and feeding the family) because today I will be cooking a big pot of chili for tonight's chili contest. I'm not doing it with expectation of winning the prize ($200 & trophy) but for the fellowship and fun of it.

Today's activities & focus includes -
** DD11 to public school - Done
** DS14 homeschool - In progress
** DH taking his DSis to big city for her doctor appt.
** DD11 academic team practice
** Pick a corner, establish its purpose, declutter, deep clean, and organize to best suit its intended use.
** Make/take chili.
** Garden cleanup baby steps.
** Meal with DFriends
** Small group study

Morning...

I never use soap to wash and haven't for years. I use body wash like Aveeno and put sesame oil in it. I have very dry skin and my dermatologist made me quit using soap long ago. Even Sweetie uses Aveeno.

I had very little sleep last night and ended up on the couch. It was too hot for me in our bedroom. Consequently I am very slow this morning. Sat for a while before I did my morning routines, but they are done now.

I love the color my hair turned out. I am gradually making lighter as I have gray beginning to show. My front hairs are actually white but the rest of my hair is naturally medium brown with steel gray growing through it. I am not even half gray on my entire head so by lighting it I can go a longer time before I need to color it again. Its now what I call butterscotch. Love it because it still has a red cast to it and looks very natural. Years ago I used a color called Butterscotch, but they don't make it any more so I was pleasantly surprised with this outcome.

Today I will be working at my desk. Not much mental power needed to do what I need to do. Hopefully I won't end up taking a nap because I don't want to mess up my night sleeping.

Thinking of Dove and Dee's family and wishing them well.

Actually I was up for an hour but didn't want to move from my bed bc the dogs were waiting for me to make a move. I needed a little more time
dh finally said that I should get up - lol as soon as said that I was awake the two dogs were all over me to the point it was hard to get out of bed. it was funny.

Hmmm, Rosie, maybe I'll buy some Aveeno for dh. He has eczema on his hands especially in winter. Maybe that will help. It can't hurt to buy a bottle.

I emptied those two liquid soap bottles down in the laundry room and will likely recycle one and attempt to use the other. Currently it is airing on the balcony.

I did get 6 mini zone chores done along with my regular weekly chores. I'm taking a break right now although dh just went out the door so I need to get going on the kitchen floor. Sigh... I donwanna.

I've been busy ever since we got up at about 7/7:30. I was trying to empty our fridge/freezer as much as possible. Putting stuff in shopping bags for DS-R to take home. I'll probably give it to him tomorrow. He's coming out to take dh to the hospital. I was planning to go with them. However I kept waking up with a sore throat during the night (although I did finally get a pretty good sleep -8 hours/5 minutes-). It's not really going away today so am trying to get things done inside as much as I can.

I had to retrieve some of dh's morning meds that he had set on the end of the kitchen counter. I hit them with a bag and couldn't find 3 of the pills, He finally found some in the register. But even when we got it open we couldn't find them all. But the strange things was I found 6 of his Eplerenone pills in there. HOW I have no clue. So finally figured out what he was still missing and got those straightened out. Told him emphatically not to put his pill dish on that counter end ever again.

Got one week's worth of his meds put up and figured out which cases of meds to put in his toiletry kit for the trip. Going to start the 2nd of 3 weeks in a few minutes. Have to space them out because my shoulder really bothers me by the time I finish one week.

I've spent a good deal of time on here tweaking my lists for the end of the year. I finally did 4 separate pages for this Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat and have been working off my EOY lists and putting each item on the day where it needs to be done.

Know dh is worrying how he's going to get things done around here. But you know what -it'll happen. A friend from across the road is coming in Friday to winterize the RV for us and I'm sure he'll help dh finish up anything needed at that point. There's such a 'village' here and it's so wonderful having such great neighbors/friends.

When we got up we saw DS-R's car was next door. Probably first time in weeks dh hasn't been up at 5:30/6. DS got to wondering about whether they'd put antifreeze in some pump on their new RV. So he was waiting for us to get dh's winterizing cart to go check it out. Then dh asked him about helping him take in some recycling. So about an hour or so ago DS called and said he was on his way back with his truck. They've gone now to take this stuff. Dh is having so much trouble right now with dizziness that it's not funny. Find myself worrying he'll fall. Just trusting a higher power to take care of him.

Okay, on the next round of putting up dh's meds. It's a little tricky right now because one med he can't take till after he has his post H Pylori test. Meanwhile he's taking 2 of another med a day to replace that one. And then he started on a new heart med yesterday which calls for 2, 3x a day for 1 week, then 2, 2x a day for 1 week, then 1 a day till they're gone. Not sure if he will be staying on this or not.
