PWYC Wednesday: Waiting room edition

We'll be in the virtual waiting room today for news of Mr. Dee's surgery today. I'll set out juice, fresh coffee and hot water for the tea drinkers, and some nice pastries to get us started. Would love fresh fruit too, anyone want to contribute?

This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

Finally today is the day that Ted will be in Rochester General Hospital. The doctor's hands will be guided in this long-awaited heart procedure. We are looking forward to him feeling better after months of being a very sick man. Figured this is the easiest way to let so many of you know where we're at in this journey. I will try to update you later when we know the results from today.

Your thoughts, prayers, calls, visits have been so appreciated.
We are so thankful for family and friends for caring for him in Rochester during this past month. Bless you all. (Doris)

every so often I have been putting on the Fraggle rock fireplace streaming on. my nephew (now in is early 40's used to watch it).

I have to buy Christmas cards today - dh will mail the ones I have done.

Things I have on my list:
fridge
3 season room continued
floor in front room - hand vacuum needles etc.
mouse traps
floors in first floor
change the sheets on upstairs bed and wash
laundry wash/dry/put away

I received two new magazines that have to be devoured and then recycled
Victoria and garden gate. My favorite is English Garden magazine but I already enjoyed that one and sent it on to dear sis in law.

I will be checking in our waiting room during the day.

Today is GMAT (get my act together) day for me. We're leaving tomorrow to return on Sunday. Just spoke to dd on the phone, we'll see her Friday night.

OMM for today:

-research on what we want to do?

I know I'm whining but I'm just so put out that we're not staying longer or doing things I want on this trip. We'll see dd the one evening - I told her that she should do what she needs to do for work instead of accompanying us on Saturday. She has a Hanukah event on Sunday p.m. This trip is not turning out to be much of a fun time IHMO. And we're staying with cousins on Saturday night and because of surprise party dcousin won't know we're coming back there, and dd says their apartment is small and we'll be schlepping luggage to party. I know we'll enjoy it but still I'm just dreading it now. I could just cry.

And now dcousin has COVID so the surprise birthday on Sat night is cancelled. What a mess. And unfortunately, I just told dh what I'm feeling about this trip right now and he's all "not my fault" defensive.

I need to find some blessings - we have the resources to do this trip and to pivot as we need to (reboot the hotel for Saturday night????), we're healthy and our children are well. What crazy emotions I'm feeling this a.m.

I need to get busy, between talking to dd and my pity party I haven't done much this a.m.

Morning…

Thinking of Dee and her family. Prayers being sent that all goes well for everyone.

Yesterday turned out to be a “do nothing” day because of a headache. However I did get the most important things done. I spent time on the phone with several professional people I’ve been working with for my mothers estate. Thankfully I have several documents they need here at the house so it was just a matter of making copies.

I have been to my exercise class, taken a shower and am now enjoying a second cup of coffee. In just a moment I’m planning to make two more cranberry/orange breads. I have several things to bring over to my DDIL’s home later today and will include one of the breads.

Still have a bit of paper work to do today and then I may start to work on my Cmas cards. Plan to go to the post office tomorrow to mail some legal papers and it would be a good opportunity to mail them.

Blessed…Fragel. Rock was a favorite of my sons when growing up and for Cmas on year when he was in his 20’s gave him the complete set of the shows for him to enjoy. Know I can watch them on you tube which I do some times…

I did a double take this morning with Friday in the title. It was a quick mental exercise for me to check the day.

Yesterday slow down day was just what DH and I needed. By early evening we were feeling back to our normal selves. DH spent the evening working with DS14 in the shop and going for a drive to practice DS14 driving skills.

Normal routines are happening here.

Yesterday I managed to get 250 steps in all 12 hours of my goal. So far today I've stayed on track with hourly step count and have completed the first 3 hours. I am curious if the extra energy is from staying focused or from moving my body on an hourly basis.

I'll cut up the pineapple I have on the counter to add to the virtual waiting room options. Although I'll probably have one of the cinnamon rolls I'm imagining are there!

I'm trying the 250 steps each hour as well. The treadmill is off-limits but the apartment is big enough that it isn't hard to do. Or if I'm already masked up, I can go pace the hall instead (at least 200 feet.)

(((Twins))) You and I are so alike in many ways and I completely understand how you feel. On the 'blessings' side, you didn't go to the party and come home with Covid, ruining your birthday next week and possibly dh's the week after. Having the resources to pay for an unexpected hotel is something I have to keep reminding myself is a blessing. After my dsisil changed the date of the family party last month, I had to pay for the AirBnB I couldn't cancel (plus couldn't go on the new date because dh was away.) And then this week was 2 days of hotel for dh (and he only slept in the room one night but no discount since he left at 5 p.m.)

Here I am, so frugal that I just bought dgs two used toys for Christmas rather than a new book that he already has from the library. Yet I spent over $800 in the last month on accommodations that weren't used or weren't used to their fullest. It takes a lot $20 savings by buying used to make up for that 'waste.' It wasn't really a waste, since it meant ds could work which meant a hospital wasn't short-staffed.

Ds texted last night with 2 more days they need me, not currently on the schedule but the hospitals are assigning extra shifts that can't be turned town because of staff shortages. I can cover those (with pleasure) but on Saturday night (from 3 p.m. until after 1 a.m.) DC(13) will be babysitting dgs1.75 because both parents have shifts (ds will handle supper because he doesn't leave until 6:30 but will be sleeping until 5 and TG leaves for work at 3.)

They never asked me to babysit, I just spotted the conflict on the calendar. I'd have taken him overnight but because I'm still isolating at that point and other complications (including weather) I didn't insist. Although I'm still thinking about it. DC is an amazing big sister, adored by her three little half siblings (dgs1.75 and her dad supplied 2 more siblings, 2.75 and 6 months old). She's very responsible but she says she doesn't like little kids even though she's so great with them so I try and make sure she doesn't have to do extraordinary babysitting. For instance, I often offer to keep dgs longer than necessary so that she can have one-on-one time with her mother. And because TG now has to work an extra shift and ds was taking DC skiing that day, my babysitting ensures she gets one-on-one time with ds.

DC's slowly warming to him partly because he tries to find things to do with her that her dad doesn't do with her. She can't play parents off each other because all 4 adults in her blended family get along very well and all 8 (the 4 adults and 4 kids) do activities together often. I think her dad being such a great friend with ds is helping DC accept ds better as well. Her dad and ds didn't know each other before ds started dating TG but they became fast friends. Even I benefit because her dad is a pretty good cook and ds has adopted some of his recipes which I like very much!

Ok, dh is running errands for me so I need to make the most of this time.

I slept in.Was up in the nite wrestling with some ideas and who knows what... finally surrendered. And fell asleep
It is snowing and just started before I got up sticking. Sigh, snow removal is on my radar. BS is up a bit had a cookie last nite before bed.
LM I should practice my driving in snow skills nope not happening.
Remembered I promised I would sew on snow day not feeling it today.
Christmas lites are on Seasonal music is on.
