It sounds very positive, Dee! :) Thank you so much for letting us know.

I decided on being a test-kitchen cook and have come up with my "own" layered veggie casserole now, trying to make it look as appetizing as possible. It's based on a Mary Mc Dougall recipe she called Vegetable Rice Bake and published in 1994. I changed it up with multiple rices for contrast in the bottom layer and added yellow squash for more color in the vegetable layer on top. It's the first time I've used fresh salsa, not bottled, which is the middle layer. I think it adds something - might be my imagination. I turned the cherry tomatoes garnish so the cut sides face up, and that makes it look more interesting, at least to me.

Baked it in a round, red and white casserole dish ddil gave me and it worked out fine, so she should be pleased when she sees it used at the party. Also, this way, for those who really aren't interested when it's put beside rich holiday food, at least it doesn't take up the table space of a large rectangular casserole.

I certainly enjoy getting out the Instant Pot, even in this small kitchen. When you have several things going at one time, it's nice to know one is fine with waiting.

Glad to read Dee's news. I peaked into the waiting room after I got home and I cleaned up all the leftover coffee and had one of the last pastries. :) I'm very glad everything went well.

Dentist was interesting. He did the major drilling etc., built up the tooth, made the 2nd of 3 impressions, then he left and the assistant (she must be something a step above an assistant) put the permanent filling in and the temporary crown on. I've never had anybody but a Dentist do stuff like that. But everything went smoothly and she seemed very competent. I have 2 more appointments to get all fixed up. I won't be going back till after the holidays.

So on the way back home I stopped at W-M and got a big shopping done. Traffic was awful up there. DH was gone when I got here to a youth group doings and I had to carry all the stuff in myself. He said he went a different direction and traffic was really bad where he was too. The storm doesn't seem to have kept people from coming down this winter.

Really tired, I think I'm soon to bed.

There were around 75 kids caroling tonight.

I made the decision to count tomorrow as party day in homeschool. I moved all of tomorrow's homeschool assignments to January 2nd. As soon as DD11 gets finished partying at public school then we will officially start our Christmas Break tomorrow.

For the 2nd day in a row, I did 12 out of 12 hourly steps goal. This is my third week of trying to establish the 250 steps an hour habit. It is becoming easier to accomplish as I learn the consequences of procrastinating.

Glad to see Dee's news. I hope this works longer this time. Also glad he's staying in overnight despite the weather forecast for tomorrow. Better to have a longer drive home back tomorrow than having a longer drive rushing him to the hospital if there was an issue.

Harmony: that's what happened to me at my last dental appointment. Dentist started, her 'expert' rebuilder did the fussy layering work, then dentist came back to confirm it was a good job.

I got 'lost' in the afternoon and only got a few smaller things done. We had burgers for dinner and then I lost most of the evening too. I had tried printing from the colour laser printer (bought in 2010) and then it stopped working. Turned out it can't feed under a few pages so when it was down to 2 blank pages it just stopped working.

Then dh got my computer connected to our network colour laser jet which has miraculously started working after being too streaky to use for the past 9 months. There's proof if you put things off they do get better! (Not a good lesson to take from this!)

I might be able to print stuff here for Christmas after all!
