Magical Monday PWYC
Monday feels magical this week, in part because it's sunny and I'm noticing the longer length of the days. It's a little shot of energy for me. What makes this Monday feel magical to you? Is it because it's the start of a new week? More daylight? Special things coming up or time to do what you want? Find the magic!

Re: Magical Monday PWYC
It is sunny here too, Twins.
I wrote an excellent start to the week, getting sidetracked in the details, and when I posted it, you had already opened the village so I've filed the words away and perhaps will remember to use them next week! More likely the week after because next week is a 6:15 start to go pick up dgs.
Anyway, I hope today is magical. Dd texted me, inviting me to get off task and I had to turn her down. Looking ahead on the calendar, Friday is my next free day to go play.
It is now 9 and I am failing my 9 a.m. check in alarm. But the bed is stripped, the sheets are done the washer (but still in it) and the load of laundry from yesterday is put away. So I've at least started the week.
Harmony: you asked about avian flu in the US. Currently 50 states have cases in the wild bird population, 47 states have poultry outbreaks and 58 million poultry birds are affected. What I don't know is if those are big numbers but I assume yes. It can move to humans from the birds so, the biggest takeaway is if you see a dead bird on your property, don't handle it without taking major precautions. And if you keep a backyard flock, there are precautions to take to protect it.
The record for dead poultry (from infection or cull) is 50.5 million poultry in 2015. I don't know if the current 58M is only counting dead poultry or not. I'm assuming not since that means the US has blown through the previous record and there's no announcement on the CDC webpage. The NPR article says those are dead poultry.

Second edit: The NPR article says egg producers are down 5% of their usual stock of egg laying birds.

Re: Magical Monday PWYC
I finished my pantry shelves last night as far as the shelves that hold food. Today might include starting the shelves that have spices and plastics. There are three metal baskets with various packets of things in them, like gravy mixes, fajita seasoning, etc. I will go through and get rid of whatever we no longer use or toss whatever is out of date. I had a few out of date things on the food shelves, which I had been wanting to use up, but never actually did. I know that most "use by" dates are questionable, but what I will be getting rid of is stuff we have no intention of actually eating.
Dh is going to do a few laps on the walking track at the arena before knitting starts, so I need to go get dressed.
It's overcast here with the temp being plus 1 Celcius.
Spaghetti and meatballs tonight.
I might work on clearing the island tonight, as there are 2 clear boxes of paper work that have been living on there for too long and it was bugging me last night when I was too tired to deal with it.

Re: Magical Monday PWYC
Last night dh grilled steaks and it was lovely how long we had light outside, and it was nice and clear out too. And this morning, I feel just a little energized getting up to early sunlight. Of course, once the time changes it sets the morning daylight back.
I can't wait to get upstairs for some genealogy later. I have the laundry going and it will be a nice day for walking the sweet dog. Dfriends have commented that dh and I are happier with each other since we got the sweet dog.

Good morning. Seeing people walking their dogs always makes me smile, Twins. Happy for you that your ddog found its way into your life.
I had better do some research on avian flu in wild birds, Kathryn. We've been feeding birds in the winter for decades. Thankfully no dead ones but I will speak to dh about it, too.
I should go through my spices too, Cathy. Some that I have are really old.
I like the magical feeling of unexpected sun & warm temps in the middle of winter. I don't want to rush the season but am looking forward to DST when it won't get dark so early. Today is a Catch Up day for me. Lots of misc put away in several rooms, & some paperwork. Shouldn't take long. First I want to cuop from yesterday, empty the dishwasher & make macaroni salad to go with the burgers we will be having for dinner.
~~~~Waving to everyone. Hope you have a great day!
Re: Magical Monday PWYC
Dog and I walked two laps - beautiful spring like weather. Talked to two neighbors - one had complications from COVID about a month ago but is doing better now - but just started playing golf again last week. He did not look as hale and hearty as normal. Glad he's on the recovery. Saw another neighbor - her dh (younger than me, and in better shape I'd wager) had a stroke while they were south for the winter. He has some paralysis and is at the wonderful local rehab hospital. I hope he does well.
I've done something to the Fitbit app on my phone and it's not showing steps anymore. Trying to troubleshoot.
I have thirteen things on my list for the week and I'm sure I'll be adding more. We'll see how I do this week. I'm calling today a free day.
I am up on time.
Did my journals and am glad for progress on putting them away after I did them yea for that!
It helps keep the stuff off the table and out of the living room.
I had some items to go in the donate box I finally got that done. *.
There are more books I am using to find a better spot for still.
Our weather is good here today no rain. Some sun thankful for that.
The issue is with Fitbit, not me, in case anyone else is having difficulties.
Got dressed, bed it stripped and remade, the sheets are out of the dryer (not completely dry, though so laid over the chairs in the bedroom.) The towels are replaced and a load in the washer. The clocks have been wound for the week. Bedroom wing is vacuumed and dusted.
I've had my breakfast and now need to get moving again. The vacuum head that came was not suitable (it turns out, despite the claims in the reviews, it isn't good for carpets because I can't change air intake, so it is too hard to push over the carpet and when I pull towards me, it slips off the tube because it doesn't lock in place. Others solve that with tape but I have to change heads between straight suction and beater bar and so that doesn't work for me.
So it is decision time. A new beater head is $130 and worse to clean than the old one (which was near impossible.) A new vacuum is about $450. Do I want to put more money into a vacuum I hate? What I really want to do is just work my way through the filters and bags I have and then trade it in for another vacuum. But I can't do that if I can't vacuum the carpets. My straight suction one works poorly on the carpets with the biggest problem being the amount of strength it takes to push and pull it across.
There's a $60 option available at a local vacuum cleaner repair shop so I think I'm going there today when I go to the library.
