Wishing/writing/working Wednesday

Post by Kathryn-in-Canada »

Is there anything that you wish would happen?

Is this something you can work from a wish into reality?

Some wishes cannot be turned into reality, I'm perfectly clear on that. Sometimes we just have to adjust or let go of our wishes in order to put our energy into something that will bring us joy, not disappointment and frustration.

Some wishes turn into reality with a HUGE portion of luck/circumstance. (That's how I feel about having 3 grandchildren, all living close to me.)

But some wishes can become reality with methodical work.

From wish, to goal, to reality with many steps in between - analyzing the wish and making it specific. Writing it down. Identifying steps to achieving the goal. Working those steps.

If your wish is worth working into reality, write it down!

One of the best examples of wish-to-goal is where I live currently. Over a decade before we decided to move, this was written down as a long-term goal.

No steps were written down, no detailed plan was in place, but it was in the background and it was percolating in my mind, background influencing other decisions that could have knocked us off this goal. Then, when I gave up the conflicting wish of my family all moving back into the big house with their spouses and grandchildren, just like the Waltons (some wishes cannot be turned into reality and, to be honest, some shouldn't be!), the original wish to move into the city and become urban dwellers again bubbled up. I had long forgotten I had written it down as a goal but I found it in my life-planning papers as I decluttered in prep for the move.

My more modest wish at the moment is to not feel so overwhelmed when I look ahead at the next 39 days.

Somethings are out of my control (i.e. when dh will have his surgery), some things are in my control, like stepping away from the computer, checking my written list so far, adding to it in order to move things off-my-mind onto paper and then, and this is always the key, actually doing the work.

Poof! I'm off and you may not see me for the rest of the day unless I post from the car as we are driving.

Well, one of my "Holy Grail" questions for years has been who was the father of my William W- I think I know - thanks to the find that I had yesterday - and I think I can write a coherent proof argument placing him into a family tree. So that's probably what I'll be doing today.

My dh said not to count on him for dinner tonight - he apparently has something noted on his calendar for late this afternoon or evening but isn't sure what it is. So if someone shows up, I guess he meets?

I probably should go to the grocery today and run a couple of errands. Yesterday I was planning to stop at drugstore on my way home from workout, but by the time I went to the library I was just ready to go on home. I really need to knock some things off my to-do list today although it's obvious I'd rather work on William's proof argument. Tomorrow I have a workout again, and dh will be home late - I think he's going out of town.

So I should peel my bottom up get writing (literally!) and working so I have free time later. BTW, we have rain again, at least the first part of the day. (Ooooh, a squirrel! How many steps do I need today?)

~~~waving Hello to all~~~~
Kathryn - Thank you for the start and thoughtful encouragement.
I am a little over halfway through my 3rd hour of today and staying on my planned tasks plus a bonus. DBro called and talked for 38 minutes as we caught up with happenings in each other's lives. I used that time on the phone to walk the pattern in the house so I could get some steps in. We didn't have a spectacular sunrise this morning due to the clouds and rain, so I mentally transferred the joy from watching the sunrise to the joy from visiting with DBro.
Today's meal plan =
B: Smoothie
L' Salmon patties, mashed potatoes, green beans
D: Breakfast for dinner. (Eat with church family)
My declutter focus for today is on plastic grocery bags and also declutter reusable shopping bags. I think this will be easy for me but won't know until I take a look with fresh eyes where they are kept.
I am going to attempt to keep a price book. I've done this in the past but overwhelmed myself by going too deep in the numbers. I am going to try keeping it simple. Today's price checking was done for gallon freezer bags. I checked prices at 5 IRL/online stores and the winner was ariver at 9cents each bag.
So far I have washed all the floors except the kitchen. I know I have to clean all 3 litter boxes.
Dh took all the burnable stuff outside and burned all of it and a bunch of cardboard from the garage. He is taking a load of tires to the dump, along with garbage from the garage. He has 4 or 5 open top garbage "bins" out there. He just cuts the tops off of heavy duty plastic oil kegs and uses them.
Dh wants fish and chips for supper. He doesn't want to eat at a restaurant, he wants to go get the fish and chips and bring them home. Oh, yay... cold fish and chips. (Closest place is 20 minutes away.) Therefore I get to smell them all the way home and then have supper cold and unappealing.
I still need to water all the plants.
What else is new... I also have to do pots and pans.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.
Thank you for the opening, Kathryn. Lots to think about. I have a long term goal, 2 actually depending on how things work out here. It is vague with no details, and the thing is, it's in the details that gets me stopped. Also, goals don't work if a spouse's long term view is different. I know if I was able to take the reins around here, (should I do that?) we might be able to formulate a workable plan. I am acutely aware that we need to do something about our living situation. It's becoming difficult to live in this big house / property, especially after the experience of the hurricane. At the moment I am stopped from going forward by this dumb job DH took, and his plan to have his knee worked on. Not having a plan right now is causing a lot of stress. With no plan, what's left is just worry and concern.
So, I am working on answering a letter. This afternoon I promised to take DH to our new dentist. He has never been there and I need to show him where it is. Last night I filled out his new patient papers. I never got his records from the old dentist because their building was destroyed during the storm and they've moved somewhere and I don't know where they are. Xrays will tell the story, though, so it isn't terribly important, though DH thinks it is. They didn't care that I didn't have mine either.
DFriend texted me picture of new baby, she's a grandma now! Happy for her.
Hope Elizabeth is doing well today and no pain in the foot. Cathy, enjoy your fish! Would your DH be willing to eat in the car when he picks the food up?
Thinking of Dee and blessed and the husbands.
Good morning!
Sorry I haven’t been around — no good reason.
Doing a husband check: blessed’s Rick is recovering and waiting for a lung biopsy, Kathryn’s Ken is waiting for heart surgery, Dee’s DH saw the doctor yesterday, and we haven’t heard back yet, and nothing is new with lucylee’s DH. Have I CUOPed that all correctly? Is anyone else’s husband on the sick list that I missed?
Speaking of the sick list, wishing Elizabeth well as she recovers from surgery. Everyone else is well, right?
No news here. Biggest deal is that Saturday night, we went to the annual fundraiser for the parish school. Normally, we don’t go; we’re happy to donate money, but the venue is loud, and I’d much rather get together with a few friends for board games and takeout. But this year, DH came into some money unexpectedly — the state says the executor gets a certain amount when the estate is settled. He doesn’t feel he earned it, so he’s been giving it away. He gave a chunk to the school fundraiser in memory of his parents, and he received four tickets to the fundraiser. The friends we wanted to take along couldn’t make it, so we took DD — DC decided to stay home. We didn’t win anything in the basket raffle. Ah, well, we don’t really need more stuff.
Congratulations to Twins on her genealogy breakthrough!
I am taking a break to update my daily journal while putting my feet up.
Homeschool went excellent today. DS14 has increased in his abilities to learn new material. I made his assignments harder and more complex this week and he still isn't struggling. I want him to struggle some (without getting overwhelmed) so I know I am pushing him as fast as he can go. Hum...
Lunch was excellent and enjoyed by all. The kitchen is cleaned up and the leftovers are available in the refrigerator.
I hung February curtains in the living room and kitchen. I ordered some red curtains for the kitchen so I waited until they arrived to change all the curtains at the same time. Changing out the curtains doesn't take very long and makes a huge difference in the looks of the room. This month is the first time that I've used covers on the throw pillows in the living room and I like it. I will be continuing to change those on a monthly basis.
I continue my baby steps of deep cleaning/decluttering/organizing in DS14 walk-in closet. I should have taken pictures before/after, but I hope to never see it in the shape it was. It would have qualified for the hoarder show.
