Friday Fluff

Post by Kathryn-in-Canada »

After some 'planning' openings to PWYC this week, I'll leave it up to you to come up with some fluff to enjoy as a focus today.

Are you watching a light-hearted TV series other SHEs might enjoy?

Are you doing something 'just for the fun of it'?

Are you doing any quilting? (That one's for Harriet!)

Are you measuring your fluffy dust elephants?

Have a fun day, whatever you are up to.

Thanks for starting us Kathryn!

I have the Invisible fence person coming this morning for the second training of the dog. I'm a little apprehensive about her reaction to it, but we'll get through.

I'm a little achy this morning - lower back twinges from my workout yesterday perhaps? or perhaps it was that I walked two more laps last night and my back felt it was seizing up? In spite of the loss of steps from not wearing the Fitbit, I ended up with 7600 steps yesterday. So that's probably also reason to be achy.

I'd like to do some weekly cleaning today. With dcleaning lady coming every other week, there are things I should do in the off week. And I'm still plugging away at the William W proof argument for his father and other research.

And tonight, I have a webinar at 7:30. What was I thinking signing up for a webinar at 7:30 on a Friday night? It meets next week too, then off a week and two more Friday nights.

I should get out of pajamas and on with a.m. routine. I'm not sure if ddog has been out yet, either.

I am not quite ready to let go yesterday's opening:

Harriet's comment gave me the 'why' thinking in ink is important.
Yes, thinking by writing, and especially in your own "hand" (writing) is really respectful of your own ideas, I think.
Lucylee: I'm glad you could enjoy the pregame 'show' last night!

And I'm also inspired by your survey of Photo Albums vs Photo Boxes and that the grands voted for albums so you'll continue. As I said before, you are over a decade ahead of me in this pursuit and remains motivating to me to get this done.

Good morning, Twins! Yes, what were you thinking signing up for the Friday night webinar?!

[Skippable photo musings]

I'm worse than most grandparents since I have one pick of dgs6 in the living room (and 8 of my kids, and one of dh and I). In the kitchen there is a photo collage of ds's family (put together by TG for my Christmas present last year), a collage of dgs6 (but only up to 6 months old), and, the fridge has an almost 6 year old photo of my two kids with dgs and a current photo of dfs's family (they send me two a year, Christmas and Easter and as such. Looking around, you'd never know there was a third grandchild and she's actually very attractive so there's no reason to 'hide her away in the attic.'

Actually, that isn't quite true, also on the wall in the kitchen is the photo sheet we send out with our Christmas newsletter so that's current (and shows dgd!)

The main reason I don't have photos up is I have tea every day in one of my photo mugs and they are full of pictures of the grands and are carefully selected each morning. If dgs1.9 is coming, I use an older mug without him on it. Today is 2022 and all 6 of my grands (3 by blood, 3 by love) are on it. So, if the pictures are for a grandmother to enjoy, then I'm not a bad nana. But if they are to boast, I've got some work to do! (Although, a few weeks ago, TG, DC and dgs1.9 arrived and expected me to come down and I thought they were coming up and when I got downstairs, a neighbour had let them into the inner lobby and was chatting with them. She knew they were mine from the picture of DC in my kitchen. DC is very pretty, as is TG, and so is memorable.)

[/musings]

Ok, I've wasted far too much of the morning on fluff.

I slept fairly well due to exhaustion. It was a meds night last night but I was so tired, the reaction didn't keep me awake. I did wake up 90 minutes after going to bed, but a bathroom break was the only disruptions, I went right back to sleep until 5:20. I decided that was too early, put on the radio on earphones, and slept another 90 minutes.

Tea is done. School buses are cancelled again due to icy conditions on side streets. Our local reddit reports that walking is dangerous (the exact answer to "how bad is it?" was "better have life-insurance bad.") So we'll may stay in for another day, meaning the errands that need to be done will have to get done tomorrow. No matter what, we do have to go get the platters for Sunday tomorrow. Today may be the better day for general trip since it will be water over ice (it is well above freezing now) which is bad but at least manageable because you can see the water and can assume there is ice under. We'll get snow later today and overnight so tomorrow will be ice hidden by snow. No matter what, I'll be using my Icetrax grippers.

I was to visit with dgd today and I think I might beg off, using the driving as an excuse. I feel bad for her but next week might be better.

I have been reading two J. D. Robb books over the past 3 days, so I haven't been on the computer too much.

Last night we heard gurgling in the pipes when one of us flushed the toilet, so dh went out in the pouring rain to check the sump pump at the back of the yard in the dark. I looked out a while later and there was a flashlight in a pine tree near the pump. The shed door was open and all of the lights were on in the garage. I went into the garage and dh was doing something with a hose. I asked if I could help and he said no and told me to go back into the house. When dh came in a lot later, he said he had the pump going again. He also said something about how we also have 2 spare pumps, so we didn't have to go buy one. The rain eventually stopped during the night and the patio is dry this morning. It's currently plus 4 Celcius here right now.

I swept and washed all the floors when dh went out for coffee and now he is home. Be back later.

I slept in an hour later than normal. That gave me 9 hrs of sleep with a 89 sleep score. I was somewhat surprised to sleep that well when I had active sinuses.

We have some snow falling this morning, but it is predicted to stop soon. Then the temps will go up to almost 50F with bright sunshine. Our weather should be pleasant for the next 3 days. I am so very ready to get some sunshine and spend some time outside. The dogs have been vigilant each day to check for sunshine and if available to lay where the sun is shining through the windows. I find it fascinating that dogs know their bodies need sunshine.

Today declutter focus is on batteries and light bulbs. The kids' toys/games use many batteries, so we keep a good supply on hand. I have a battery box which has been wonderful to keep them in one spot and easy to find. It does need organizing though. Ditto on light bulbs. They are kept in a plastic tub but it needs to be organized.

Today's price book item is AA batteries. Only 4 of the 6 IRL/online stores carry them. The price for one AA battery ranged from .22 to $1.28. Amazon was the winner. I was surprised that Sams was twice the price of amazon. WMart was even higher.

today's menu -
B: DH was hungry for bagels. I had egg roll in a bowl. not the typical breakfast food but it was what we wanted.
L: Rasty's (local BBQ place)
D: leftovers

Next up - daily Sudoku puzzle

Good morning!

LadyM, I think I have your cold. In my case, at least, it’s mostly a head cold with 3 S’s: Snots, Sinuses, and Sneezing. Some body aches/fatigue, too, but there’s no fever, and a Covid test was negative.

Had to be presentable earlier than usual this morning; a guy was coming to check out the boiler. The window was 8-12, and he arrived at 8 sharp. (The company that DH uses to deal with the boiler has a deal where for a certain fee, they will send someone out to do a boiler inspection, and they will be available 24/7 for service calls. We got on their calendar late this year.) Anyhow, the guy says there’s a part that could use replacing (apparently it wasn’t working right, but a whack got it going again), but it’d cost ~$1K, and the boiler is pretty old, so we might want to replace the whole boiler. Yikes!

I am identifying with Twins’ FitBit woes. I have lost my pedometer, and I have to rely on my phone for my steps. Which means I’ve got to remember to keep my phone on my person and not leave it on my table. I’m sure I’m not getting all the credit I am due.

Need to apply some Butt Glue Solvent. Earlier, I figured I could get everything done by 3:15. Now, it’s looking like 4:40 because I’ve spent too much time sitting.

Have a good day, everyone!

3 S’s: Snots, Sinuses, and Sneezing
Very good description!

I keep a simple yearly spreadsheet tracking "Noteworthy Health events". The entries are color coded by family members, so it is easy to scan and see who was sick, when and what. When I went to record the 3 S's I was surprised to see that on Feb 9, 2022 I had the same exact symptoms that I had Feb 9,2023. I only had these symptoms twice last year - once in Feb and again in March. On further investigation I found tree allergies are high now. Guess what the symptoms for tree allergies are? watery eyes, sneezing, and nasal congestion. Possible clue! I might not have a cold at all but allergies.

I have had similar minor symptoms this week a bit achy sinus stuff no fever but it did effect my energy.
Yesterday I took the rig with most fuel and room to fetch vacuum.
I turned it on and it runs did not clean with it yet.
I left the cord loose so it could be wound easier after it relaxed from the formation it was in before.

My mind is buzzing with all the writing ideas I have prompts to use
and put on 3x5 cards. Oh my!

QT *
Planning*
make bed*
no bfast bc my Bs is in ack land today, cookies I bakes last nite were the culprit I am pretty sure.
I have a plan for meals / lunch soup*.

I should mop but need to bathe ddog before doing the bathroom I usually start there.
But It needs to warm up outside a bit before doing that so I'm rethinking my activities.
Mop area one and two. My attempt at calming the fluff around here!

Waving to all of you lovely ladies.

Yes, fluff (batting for quilt projects, fleece for design walls, polyfil for stuffing and repairing toy friends) is part of the supplies being organized here. Upper shelf of closet in the office/sewing room, actually. I always watch out that relatively lightweight items are stored on high shelves. That's ever since my 3-Stooges pratfall after being hit in the forehead with a pyrex lid that I unfortunately kept on a high kitchen shelf. I don't think the fall of a bag of stuffing is going to impact me quite so much.

On the way to finding out other things: Author Neil Gaiman (Newberry Medal, Hugo Award) holds a writing class in which he advocates the first draft of any piece should be done with pen and paper. He says it means that from the very start he focuses on the quality of the words he's writing down and thinks more, so that he's not having to edit out a "bunch of garbage words" in a second draft.

Well…

Harriet …
the place on my face is healing quite well and I am very pleased with the outcome

Cathy … that are you reading?

I have been feeling rather blah for the past few days. Went to the drs on Monday because I suspected I might have either a bladder or kidney infection because I found a bit of blood on my panties off and on the days before. He put me on some antibiotics and ran some labs tests. Don’t have the results yet.

Anyway I slept off and on all day Tuesday. First I thought it might be the meds that made me sleepy because I really don’t have many symptoms. Felt off Wednesday but better yesterday. Don’t really know what was going on but I am feeling so much better today I believe something must be going on with my body.

Went to my class this morning and then to my coffee gathering. Just had lunch and will make some cookies for Sweetie.

Tomorrow I have my doggie class to learn how I am suppose to walk the dogs at the shelter. Once I pass it, I will be able to walk dogs and play with puppies at the shelter. They don’t use collars and leases there, but use body harness instead. I’m not a fan of those, but will learn how to use them while at the shelter.

Pulled up flowers in one of my big pots because they weren’t doing well and bought new ones yesterday at HD. My seedlings are now in my lanai as the temps are now suppose to drop over night both tonight and Sat. My brother is growing some of the same seeds as me, but he has set up an indoor growing area. He’s been growing veggies for years and is know for his tomatoes. This year he is growing all his veggies by seeds including his tomatoes. He plants his garden on Mothers Day every year.

He told my he bought 3 thousand Zinnia seeds for $7. He plants them in his front yard flower garden and all around his flower beds and veggie garden. Told me he got bored the other day so he built an owl box and put it 15’ up in his tree. I was surprised because he did it by himself and admitted he hates high ladder work now that he’s older. This from a man who was beyond fearless in his younger years and a fireman and fire chief as well.
