PWYC Wednesday and Holiday prep

Dh and I watched the curling this morning and then we went to a Polish Deli in Hamilton. We had lots of lightning and rain, but with the volume that dh always has any radio, I couldn't hear the thunder.

Supper tonight will be pierogies and cabbage rolls. We ate a few pierogies on the way home and dh had a sausage on a bun with sour kraut and onions.

Now that we are home I can hear all kinds of thunder.

The mystery of the missing chair has been solved. I asked DS14 if he has seen the fourth chair and he instantly knew what happened to it. He said 4-5 years ago he was playing video games while sitting in that chair. He accidentally tipped it over backwards and broke the back of the chair. It was decided to throw the broken chair away. While DS14 talked about the experience, it brought back faint memories of it happening.

DH is mowing the front yard with zero turn mower. This is the 3rd time it has needed to be mowed this spring.

I had the mystery of a missing bottle of my thyroid medicine. Hmmmm....Finally checked online and realized I used the last refill in November and had already used the extra I had on hand obviously. So I went online to order a renewal. Waited until that went through and just got off the phone with my Dr's office. The gal 'in training' finally had to turn it over to another gal I know there. She finally found it and has sent an emergency supply script to W algreens here. I realized fairly late but at least not TOO late that I used my last pill this morning. Think I've been too concentrated on things for dh and not enough for me! Ya' think?

I've been busy ever since I got up at 7:40am. Nice arising time! My bladder woke me up I'm afraid.

DD is home today taking an online class on mental health -required. They have to be sitting in front of the computer with the camera on. She had almost 3 hours of prep time which she did yesterday so she wouldn't have to get up quite so early today. She's going to church with dsonil tonight for some dinner. She's not thrilled about going and it might be the only time. He always has different ideas about religion, etc than she does.

DGS23 took dh on a 'surprise run' today and ended up at his other set of grandparents. Know Dh really enjoyed that. He's so happy being back 'home'.

I spent about 20 minutes going through the hoops to pay dh's ambulance bill (it finally arrived today). When I was all ready to hit submit I saw: $6.95 'convenience fee'. I think not so I cancelled it all and made out a check to send tomorrow.

I've made two batches of charoset - the apple, cinnamon, raisin, sweet wine mixture - one with nuts and a small one for ds w/o.

Leaving now to get dd. Going by grocery first and also need gas, although I can get there and back w/o it.

Homeschool is finally finished. Some days are better than others. Today DS14 and I were not communicating well and had to walk away from each other a couple times before resuming.

I'm going to take a break before starting to cook for tonight.

So I haven't accomplished anything here today except to respond to a couple of emails and use up all the strips of cut paper I have for the paper chains I'm making for church. We plan in June to surround the church, on the outside, with a paper chain to physically "Draw the Circle Wide" (one of our favourite hymns.) This is part of our 60th anniversary year activities.

I was watching the Downton Abbey movie while I worked and there was a wicked Thunder Ice Storm. One particularly loud/bright lightening flash took down our power. So I went around shutting down the computer systems on the battery backed up power supplies and then went to the hall and chatted with neighbours. It was to be on by 3 according to the website but at 2, just as we walked back into our apartments, the power came on.

I checked on dh (who had been napping) and discovered that the power coming back on stopped him in the nick of time from crawling behind the bed to figure out what was wrong with his phone charger! He had no clue the power was out.

I had texted dd earlier and they had power. Now they are out (and dsil had to go pick up dgs from school since it closed due to no power.) The funny part is at that time, if you pulled up the outage map to the scale that shows our two neighbourhoods on the screen (since they are on opposite sides of downtown), you'll see they were the only to neighbourhoods without power! Since then, we've been joined by a lot more areas but still not too severe. The train is down, of course, with people stuck on it for 2 hours until firefighters could lead them to safety.

Ds suggested we go out for dinner and pick up some prescriptions he needs. I asked if he needed them for tomorrow morning. Nope. I pointed out I wasn't going out in this storm and we'd have smothered pork chops for dinner tonight. I should get going on that. There's no guarantee the power will stay up so I'm going to cook dinner now and then reheat it at supper time.

I have dug out a half gallon of weeds. Dog my three days worth out of the way my sis & I have a thing we do 5 weeds at a time so it is not an over whelming task. But I was on a roll and did three areas. I am leaving the dandelions for the bees until more stuff blooms.

Someone a gal at church wanted a room to rent for #300 and help with stuff around the place I happen to know this person & is on a lot of high powered anti psychotic Rx said I did not know of anything, seems like a not good situation plus the person does not have a rig, I am not wanting to be a taxi service, only one full bathroom here and the basement is not set up for bedrooms according to code, glad for that, I did not explain all that but...
I am glad I remember this is a single family zoned not for rentals area here too. Happy to know that and explains why the other widows in the neighborhood do not have people in there places even though they have more amenities that I do.

I have a plan for dinner yea. It was good to go outside. When I was going to walk saw the neighbor spraying for weeds decided to wait that stuff is hard on my skin.

I have mixed up a loaf of bread and it raised while we walked.
I have it on the ridged square pan to bake.
I did 4 rounds like a bun shape only way more round on top!
Fun to do new and differents things saw Julia C. had some one making croissants today a very involved process I had never seen done before.

Not much accomplished here either. I'm a bit overwhelmed. I counted 7 things within our house and/or vehicles that are not working and either need fixed or repaired. As I sit here I am remembering more. Oh, another 3. No wonder I feel stressed. A couple of those things can wait, some need DH to get better first, a few I've already been struggling with. Plumbing, vacuum, computer, one cell phone, couple big vehicle things, one bank issue, couple major health issues. Life is often like this but it seems to be piling up around me here.

I did make dinner today. I baked a pork roast, a casserole of scalloped potatoes, broccoli and applesauce. Dishes are done.

I need to get groceries. Told DH I was going tomorrow, so he could tell me what he wants/needs. I am out or almost out of 2 supplements, and 1 requires that I go to a different store. I don't take stuff just because I think it sounds good to take...everything I take has been recommended by a dr. for a specific need. A few weeks ago I came within a couple days of running out of an important Rx. I usually do better than that but I've been struggling to keep all the plates spinning here. Dee, glad you caught yours in time.

LadyM, good that you found the chair. I had a suspicion it had something to do with DSon! DGSon when he was pretty little knelt on the seat of our kitchen chair, backwards, and it fell over with him holding onto the back of it. He got off and ran to the bedroom and locked the door, he was scared we'd be mad. I was just thankful he didn't crush his fingers. It cracked one of the floor tiles which we replaced and reassured him all was well. Nobody should ever lean back in a chair!

We just had another flicker and the battery backup power supply for the tv went nuts and wouldn't stop squealing even though the power was still on. I figured it out - the TV draws too much so the battery backup doesn't work. I shut down the tv and the noise stopped. The Blueray player on it's own is OK but add in the TV and it is too much. This afternoon I was using the projector so the TV wasn't on. I lost picture but not sound or streaming (the internet is on a different backup.)

I should get all ready for bed so that I'm not caught out trying to do so in the dark.

Dinner was onion gravy smothered pork chops and was a complete success. Plus we were done at 5:40 well in time for my meeting at 6. Which went OK.

I kept working on email/calendar trying to get everything updated. I'm not done but much closer. I have to tell dd that I won't be around for all the swimming lessons in the summer. Nor for her 15th wedding anniversary (she thought we could take the kids for a few days.) I'll be in NS then!

Tomorrow is full. An errand at the other building, dgs to his blood draw and then maybe he and I will go play for a bit at a museum. Then pick up dh's meds on the way home.

We had this experience several times in the last few weeks. It is a new change in the way some businesses are operating. Yesterday I had to pay a $500 deposit on a/c repair so I handed her my credit card. She started to run the card and then casually said "There will be a $15 fee for using a credit card". I was surprised and immediately told her to cancel the CC charge and I will pay cash. I always keep a stash on hand. When we eat at local BBQ there is a $6 charge if pay by CCard. We always pay cash there.

I am tired but pleased with how the food turned out. I received many compliments on tonight's meal and there were plenty of helpers to serve and clean up. I had nursery duty so that meant I couldn't help with the cleaning up part. I'll take playing with the babies and toddlers every time!
