Good Friday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

It's Good Friday - Kathryn could do it more justice than I can, but it's Good Friday for me because dd is here!

I have a busy day, but not because of Passover. DH is joining me and dd in meeting dcousin and her dd and dd's dh for lunch today. It will be wonderful to see them. I waited until dd was here to ask about lunch w dcousin because I wasn't sure what dd had planned but she was excited about seeing dcousin. I'm glad it worked out.

I need to get things ready for Shabbat dinner tonight. That will mean clearing DR table (still stuff there from repainting) and setting up, and making challah, a veggie, salad, and a fruit salad for dessert. And picking up cake bites from bakery and a trip to dreaded grocery store for more fruit and salad greens and I don't know what else. We'll meet dcousins at restaurant at 12:30 - I made a reservation since there are six of us - and she has a dr appt at 2:30 so we can't run too long.

I think I'll set up the challah in the breadmaker to run while we're at lunch so I'll shape it, let it rise and bake when we get home. And I should go to grocery and baker this a.m. My house is "good enough" except for vacuuming/sweeping and swishing and swiping the powder room.

I think that's the plan. Busy day, but filled with family and friends. And rain, except for a break this afternoon.

When I got up I expected to see dh getting a last cup of coffee before he headed to Rotary breakfast club meeting but he was barefoot in jeans I asked if Rotary wasn't meeting today (off for Good Friday?) and he replied that he thought today was Saturday. So he got ready and out the door he went!

Good Morning!

The first 3 hours of my day have been smooth with most of the hourly tasks completed. I have spent some time doing a little planning for the many activities & meals happening today and the long weekend.

I will be cooking spaghetti & meat sauce for the family today. I have two kinds of meat thawing to cook for Sunday meals.

DGS25 is texting about his 2nd job interview at a job that I think will have a great future for him. Last week I talked him out of taking a previous job offer. I thought he might be upset with me about poo-poo'ing that offer but he seems to have overcome his frustration with me. Hopefully he will be able to see it was a blessing as he looks back on it.

DD46 is texting about stopping by to clean the kids and DH bathrooms. She is good at making plans but not so good at follow through. If it happens....GREAT. If it doesn't happen then nothing changes, and the bathrooms are still okay.

Today has estimated 4.5 hours out of the house.
** pick up meat order at ranchers market - estimated time 30 minutes.
** Fishing Fun and picnic. Estimated time 2 hours
** Prayer walks 1-5pm at church. DH will be there the entire 4 hours, but I will just do the prayer walk and leave (estimated time - 30ish minutes).
** Good Friday service 6pm. I'll be keeping the nursery. estimated time 1.5 hours

I've been working at a good pace and have been to grocery and bakery already. I'm going to s2s next. DR table is cleared and most of a.m. routine done. We need to leave in a little more than an hour for lunch. I'll get the breadmaker ready to go and set as a timer so the dough is kneaded and worked while we're out.

Just watched another round of curling with the Canadian team winning this one. There is another game tonight.

I have been slowly working on getting all the layers of the bedding washed. Dh had a very bad night. I need to be careful with the water usage because the ground is so saturated. There are 2 fields north of us that are flooded with the water almost up to the road on both sides of the road.

Supper will be a costco chicken and whatever sides I come up with. I don't even know if I will be re-heating the chicken or not. Haven't asked dh.

LadyM had a reasonable idea that I may not have posted yesterday because I had no power. Nope, just got distracted (partly due to no power elsewhere!)

The ice was still rather present in the morning, a full inch of it encased the east wall of the building on the outside. Worse, there was a major fog that didn't clear for many, many, hours. So I wasn't looking forward to driving dgs to the blood draw but I knew driving was safer than walking and busing.

Turns out dgs6 had no school because his school had no power. The school buses weren't running either and normally that means no preschool but dgd was at preschool. I was to take dgs to his blood draw for 12:30 but when I touched base with dd, she was at an indoor playground with dgs and telling me to not drive because it was too dangerous. I figured it would be fine and I missed dgs so I said I'd come anyway.

Despite the fog, driving was fine except for remembering to do a 4-way stop at traffic lights in areas without power.

Dd had called the corporate office of the LifeLabs because they don't have listed numbers for individual labs and they assured her there was power. We got there a bit early and the parking lot was empty. No power. There was a sign directing her to the next area of town over. Easy for us because of the car. The other lab had no computer systems (it is centralized somewhere else that had no power.) So it was to be a longer wait but wasn't long at all, just 10 minutes. It took forever to get the blood from him and then he had to pee in a cup (which intrigued him!). When the appointment was over, we had an hour until pickup time.

I drove them up to a favourite bakery and then back to the preschool and we ate in the car. Then I took off with dgs because I only had one car seat, and took him home. He and I read for a bit until I thought his mom would be home soon and then I escaped (his dad was working from home so I could just leave him and head off before dgd saw me.)

From there I ran errands for dh. I got stuck on the highway because it was rush hour and the traffic guy mentioned people shopping for groceries and that was literally the problem. The grocery store near the foot of the exit was backed up getting in and out and thus I couldn't get off the highway for over 5 minutes. Anyway, my grocery store had all cashes open so that went well but the parking lot was a mess. I was home at 5 and exhausted but successful in my shopping.

Then I just wasted the evening. So never posted here. I actually thought I had wasted the day running around but I had also done the weekly kitchen chores before I left so it was a good day.

The church has power but the neighbourhood around it is out so I skipped Good Friday services this morning.

So far today I've s2s and done a turn on the treadmill.

It is a lovely, sunny, day but really windy and the pressure changes in the apartment in the gusts (and probably the sway of the building) is bothering me. I might go down to the social room which is on the lee-side and no movement if I don't settle soon.

No plans for the day except to cook up the beef roast I bought yesterday.

Dh is bored, as usual. Maybe we can go for a bit of a drive.

Tomorrow I'm taking my plastic eggs over to dd's and we'll do an outside egg hunt with the kids. Dgd apparently told everyone at preschool she's doing an indoor AND an outdoor egg hunt. Dd thought she must be remembering the hunt last year in my neighbourhood (this year is during church so we can't go) but I reminded dd that during dh's recovery in 2021 we did it outside. So we'll do the same thing again.

Kathryn, sounds like your busy shopping trip was about like mine yesterday.

I was planning to go out and fill up the gas in the car so we'd have it for the trip Sunday. DH decided he wanted the car to go and drop off the water pump where his truck is parked. The guy who helped said he'd come either tonight or tomorrow and put the new one in for him. I believe people are beginning to realize he really can't be doing stuff right now. He said people in the auto part store yesterday helped him. A customer took parts off the old pump that didn't come with the new pump and a gal at the counter cleaned them for him. DH does accept help when it is offered. He's had a lifetime of employees helping him so he's used to that.

When he comes back I'll go get the gas and go in that big store (I know already it won't be a pleasant experience) and look for the couple things I couldn't get yesterday. I'm seeing shortages on the shelves again. Plus, keep an eye on TP; there is a political bit of nonsense going on with it and I'm wondering if people will stock up again.

DH wanted to go to service tonight but I talked him into doing it online instead. The last Good Friday service I went to was very quiet and sad (understandably) and they wanted people to leave the service quietly. DH goes to church to socialize, so it isn't a good time for him to be there. Plus they might be really crowded, because of the 1 service instead of 3. We brought home the little containers of communion, another vial I don't know what they'll do with that, and a purple cloth...so it will be interesting to see how that all goes.

I have LOL going, mail and check to the box after I looked up that they are picking up today. Vacuum is next if I can get it going. I might have to use the dreaded Miele.

Blessed - I am looking forward to you being able to return to normal posting.

Home from successful completion of two activities.

The weekly fishing adventures went smoother this week. We are learning what is not needed and paring down the items taken. We fished off a dock today which made casting & reeling in the line super easy. Still no fish caught but the sight & sounds of being at/on the water and having a picnic made the effort worthwhile.

We picked up the supper box special from local rancher market. For $100 it included.
-1 pack Chicken Fry (Tenderized Round Steak)
-1 pack Hamburger Patties -size of your choice (8 Quarter Pound, 6 Third Pound, or 4 Half Pound)
-1 pack Stew Meat
-1 pack Fajita Meat
-11 lbs ground Beef
I might have done better price wise with buying sales at grocery stores, but this is local grown meat which made it worth it to me for any extra expense.

DGS25 second interview went well, and he received a formal job offer. He is now so happy that I talked him out of taking the job he was offered last week. This job could be a perfect fit for him and give him plenty of options to grow his career. And it is $3 an hour better than the previous job offer that I talked him out of taking. He is on cloud nine today.

DS14 just finished lunch and left for work. He asked if he should take tomorrow off work. I instantly responded - "YES!!!! There is no need to be working 6 days a week. Take time to do different things and enjoy life."
