I slept in until about 7:30. We didn't get home from ds's until 10:15 and then puttered a bit to quiet our minds after the drive. We were hit in the last of the bands of the storm for the last 1/4 of the drive. Dh got to experience the 'car wash' effect (the water comes up and over the car as if we are going through a car wash, completely blinding us), it wasn't as extreme as when it happened to me but more dangerous because I was only going 40 mph and on a freeway with only 2 lanes in my direction, four way flashers on and no other cars near me, just the semi-truck I was following so his actions would let me know what I was about to face. Dh was going closer to 55 mph, on a 6 lane freeway and he knew there was a puddle but had no idea how deep (the water the truck threw up in the air was my clue how bad it would be for me.)

You'd think the car would be clean after all that but in fact it is quite dirty from dirty water going over it. The bugs splats are off the front though after a wipe with a towel (and I cleaned off the back of the tail gate.)

Today's number one item is get groceries. I'll head out as soon as I'm dressed. Long list, probably 3 stores to go to.

It was raining when i woke up at 7. To my surprise all 3 cats were still inside, which meant that dh was in bed between 5 and 7. If either of us are up, all 3 are pacing in the hallway to get out. I let them out and 2 of them were at the back door waiting to get in less than 15 minutes later. The other cat is still out, but she likes to lay underneath dh's truck.

I tackled an area I have been ignoring. Right now all the vintage blue cornflower stuff from my 2 plant racks is in the dishwasher getting a much needed bubble bath. I also moved the racks and swept underneath them.

Pork chops for supper tonight. I don't know if I'll BBQ them or shake n bake them.

Today is the busiest of my week, with three out of house things on the agenda:
-body work at eleven - much needed for my back, hip and knee
-workout at two
-meeting next door about HOA board - may results in me being chair person

Yesterday I turned my hip wrong and something happened to my knee, not surprisingly. So my knee is achy now. I'm falling apart these days. I think I walked the dog a mile yesterday before the hip and knee happened. I'm trying to get back my walking habit so I'm not sure about walking extra today.

And other things on my mind today:
-make a couple more graduation cards - I got one in yesterday before the dog wanted the afternoon walk.
-Email/info to temple friend who was asking about DNA for family connections. Someone contacted him claiming to be a half-sibling
-recharge my fitbit

What else? Dh is out tonight so so need to cook our dinner. We have both wraps from Costco and leftover eggplant from dinner out last night. Speaking of dinner out last night - our companion was a young Jewish man who just moved to our town. I could barely get in a word edgewise because dh was so busy talking. Wasn't a relaxing evening for me.

Update before I got this posted: email is sent.

From last night, just before the power went out:

Hail has fallen here earlier. Several towns away was the worst of the hail, where my paternal family reunions were always held. About golf-ball sized, I would say, from the informal community photos on a couple fellows' hands, but there may well be worse official recordings.

Today HRH and I went to his easiest appt - foot dr. I chatted with a lady in the waiting room about how important the appt is for her, so that she can get replacement orthopedic shoes. Interesting.

Then on to the eyeglasses company that is new in the area, but it was so hard to find. Also, I called from my phone but never got an answer. Finally, HRH spotted it but by that time it was noon and no parking spaces anywhere near.

We shopped at the high-priced grocery instead, and although we found a few things and spent too much, it wasn't as valuable as we hoped.

Quick post & run...

Harriet, I was so sorry to read that your dd43's dMIL & dBIL were in a car accident. Hope MIL's knee heals quickly. Glad both will be OK.

((Harmony)), sorry that you are having problems with tinnitus & eczema.

Lady M! So glad you had no major injuries from falling down cellar stairs. I think that was the scariest post I've ever read here in our village. (((Gentle hugs))) as you recuperate.

Happy (belated) birthday to Cathy's dh.

Glad to read update on ((Dee)).

((Kathryn)), I wish you weren't still dealing with smoke issues in your home from the fires.

Elizabeth, I hope your coughing stops & your knee feels better soon.

Dh & I are leaving in a few minutes for our yearly eye exam appointments. I like to schedule them for late morning/early afternoon so we can eat lunch as soon as we get home, then take a nap to rest our eyes after having them dilated. On very sunny days I'll pull all the curtains closed, too.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Hello! Beautiful day here so far.

I have GOOD NEWS! Our plumber finally came. We were ready for him, had the cabinet doors off and a ramp board with a blanket for him to kneel on, which he appreciated. Oh boy. He replaced a valve on top of the holding tank, put the 3 new filters we already had in our little RO system, cleaned out the drain which only had a tiny bit of stuff that looked like spinach and didn't smell very good (not bad for 15 years of use) and adapted by cutting a bit the custom washer DH and I made for attaching the little faucet back to the top of the counter.

We never thought this guy was the most skillful plumber, but today he sure was, and very inexpensive though we fixed that for sure and he was surprised and grateful. I was never so happy we had called the man!

So next I should work on those planters outside. It's mighty hot and I should start that work earlier than this. Tomorrow DH goes to dentist, so not then either. Maybe late this afternoon when it's not so blasted hot?

(Twins) a bit of ice on your knee?
Nancy, look out for falling debris!

It's almost the end of the month and the 2nd quarter. I might take some time to close out the books for this time period.

Our evening storms happened before I got that posted, mostly because I'd been called away from computer.

The grandboys went around tying down garbage cans and recycling cans with bungee cords. I appreciated that. I pulled my baskets up against the house but forgot a lawn chair. Sigh. Along with them, dstepson came with more veggies and the first harvest of dstepdil's herbs that she had wrapped for me - oregano, Thai basil and lemon balm. So, we had a full house of cheerful voices before we decided we'd better break this up.

Everyone was safe at home when the storm passed through. Trees were a-poppin, sadly. I now know that we had some plants damaged here, too, not just limbs down. Sigh. Later, I'll access.

The power went out about 8 or 8:30, I guess - it was fully dark outside. Stayed off about 4 hours. Ds called to give us updates on the power restoration schedule, which looked good, and to tell us to go to bed, lol. Dstepson drove along driveways at midnight, picking up limbs so those who have to get out to work tomorrow can do it. He didn't come in again when he went in and out here, although he knew we were up and had been chatting.

Re: the rechargeable lightbulbs :
The lightbulbs that charge and then come on when power goes off did well for us again. The ones that were especially helpful were the ones that are left in table lamps, so recharging happens rather often. They made immediate navigating of a pitch-dark house WAY easier and safer. The bathroom one we thought we had charged didn't work, but we had lanterns. We'll switch those around and get that one recharged. I was able to sit up reading a book with Tobias in the LR for a few hours, with normal electric light. That was reassuring. Highly recommend these.

Dove, I hope your eye exam goes well and dilation doesn't bother you too much. I'm so frustrated I haven't been able to take my prescription and get it filled. Things keep getting in the way - yesterday HRH and I made the good ol' college try, lol, but it was not to be.

Yes, my grandboys and their Mom want to head to visit the other grandmother this weekend, but it may not work out because their van STILL has a part that has not arrived at the dealership service dept. Obviously, a 5-person growing-boy family needs the van, not a small car. Hmmm... .. but they understand that she feels pretty well and is tolerating the pain med well, doing what the dr says.

Twins',
sorry about that knee. Bet your graduation cards will look FABulous.

Harmony, great news. One thing down, right? (smile - that's what we often say around here)

Dh and I went to the landfill again. This time it was 6 tires.

I was in the middle of tackling the rack in the former closet of this room. One of those marvelous chrome costco racks fits in there with a bit of room to spare. When dh came out of the bathroom from having a shower, he was leaning against the island, looking around at stuff. So I opened the "knife" drawer and asked him if there was anything that he wanted to get rid of. One knife sharpener (there are at least 6 left) and 2 knives. Then I opened the drawer below it and there were a couple things he pulled out of that drawer. It has all the BBQ tools and summer type stuff. I've got a bit of a pile on the counter beside the back door to go to the thrift store.

Now that we are back I can get back to putting everything back on the rack. It hols the t.p., paper towels and tissues, along with the oversize pots and other things that are used for making jam. I don't know why we have a juicer, but I think we have used it for grape jam in the past. Lots and lots of cases of bottles for pickles and jam are stored on there as well. I can tell we haven't done any of that for a few years. I need to decide whether I will make strawberry jam before the season is over. Local fruit stands still have their strawberry signs up.
