Re: Wednesday PWYC
Hello to everyone!!!
Kathryn, my response is the same as Twins’ last night — I don’t know enough to have an opinion! Mainly, jus try to keep us together and keep old PWYC and J&C posts as far back as possible. I definitely think it would be fine to delete threads that haven’t been used in years.
Y’all, I’m on my second day of doing nothing.
I did take dgs to Wonderful Wednesday, and took both kids home when it was over — dgd arrived later bc she had an eye doctor appointment early this morning.
I cannot stay awake to post this! I think it’s my blood sugar. Starting the day with a regular cola instead of diet is not a good choice.

I agree with what others have said about threads, I to do not know much one the tech. stuff codes etc. to have valad input.
I still have not seen the crew I may have mis-understood the day the would start on the deck or they maybe on one of the other three jobs going who knows. I am okay with a quiet day and no construction noise here.
I have been to the store got my Rx & food. back home truck is unloaded and food is put away now.
My bs tanked so I had pie & ice-cream for "lunch".
I peeled eggs deciding if I will devil em or not.
refill coffee pod carasol.
It is a bit on the hazy side here now from Canada fires it is like 4 hrs. to the Northern border from us.
Charging my phone.
I got my step goal met for the day before noon today.
Ddog did okay and is napping.
I like the suggestions for dealing with fireworks our local animal shelter had suggested and a couple other people.

I got a much needed nap.
Put a few things away from carport.
Washed up the ice chest has a handle so will be great for transporting my stuff I think.
I sliced up cukes for the bbq set food together for that.

Dh went to get fly traps. He also got beer to put into them.
These guys had to shut down power for a few minutes and I didn't think I would be able to get the computer to start again. I'm so happy it did.
The cats are all in the bedroom with the a/c on and the door is shut. I put a litter box in there along with dry food and water. I told them they have the penthouse suite and they are too spoiled for words. Dh has joined them. It's his first nap of the day.

Re: Wednesday PWYC
While I was doing the covid thing, the church had a meeting to plan the Wednesday night meals that will restart the same time as school. I txted the organizer to put me down to cook if she needed another volunteer. I also told her that I would take whatever meal plan was left. I forgot about it and just remembered to check with her to find out the outcome. I will be cooking on the 2nd Wednesday of each month starting with Sept 13th. My menu is potato bar. Hum....I know they baked 100 potatoes but that is about all I know about this menu. I need to ask about toppings, sides and develop a plan for what, how, when it takes to cook each item. Once I do it once or twice then it should become routine and easy.....I hope.
DGS26 is offering us his 55lb Labradoodle. It didn't take me any time to make that decision. No thank you. We have 3 inside pets and 9 outside. We are maxed out.

Re: Wednesday PWYC
Y'all know I'm not much help with anything electronic. I sincerely wish I was and could help. I'm perfectly agreeable to throw some money at the problem if it would help. I would miss this so much if it was not here. Some of the threads that nobody uses...well I've tried a bit...and it's like being in an empty tunnel....helllllloooooo....but nobody there, just an echo. I think this site has evolved to something different than what we started out as. It doesn't seem so much as a household routine site as a bunch of great friends who have grown to love each other and strive together to keep their lives moving ahead.
I've been all afternoon trying to figure out computer / printer / permit / banking problems. Finally discovered the printer cable was not attached at all to the computer when DH brought it home and set it back up. All the stuff I was trying to print out multiple times...printed out all at once when I realized and put the cable back in. DH swears he had it attached...but I'm doubtful it just fell out. We are getting calls from people who can't get insurance. One I researched has an unpermitted roof repair and is now denied insurance. We do not have a roofing license and can't help with that. I feel bad for this lady. She has a perfectly fine roof, but without documentation.
We had a big storm go through. Lots of electricity. I had gotten up and put on painting clothes, planning to paint the 2nd planter. Then all this stuff happened and I never did get out there before the rain came. And the day has completely gotten away from me. What a waste.
LadyM, you don't think you need someone to check that knee?

Re: Wednesday PWYC
Sorry I vanished but I had to get some stuff done. I had 3 days off and tomorrow stuff starts happening again.
Yesterday I didn't quite have the day off, I got a call asking if I could do the residents' association bank change and we ended up going for 2 and got it done. At long last. I had to take my laptop and once the bank manager got us an access number I had to sign in and then teach the new treasurer everything she needed to know about the User Interface for this bank. We are not set up to receive emailed money so those who never carry cash and have never written a cheque in their lives (and don't know where their cheques are) can easily renew their memberships.
So I did that, watched the video on helping little ones learn to talk, sorted through the library books and, in the evening, we took the library books back, had dinner out and picked up more pool noodles (I have a use for them with the bunk bed.) In between times, right up to midnight, I worked on the jigsaw puzzle dgs insisted I start. Unfortunately until midnight.
Today I worked more on the jigsaw, then got the vacuuming finished and mopped the kitchen floor before 'brown bag lunch' downstairs (residents just bring our lunches down and eat together once a month.) I rolled up the puzzle and brought it down for others to work on. When I went to vacuum the dining room after, I discovered 2 more pieces that had fallen so took those downstairs to the social room.
Dinner was just heated up leftovers. I did the kitchen chores after dinner and the apartment is almost completely company ready. Just a few things around my desk need tidying. I also pulled down the blanket serving as a curtain and the projector screen (which covers two more windows) so that the room will look more 'normal' when our financial guy comes tomorrow.
While cleaning the kitchen, I listened to an episode of 99 Percent Invisible on the Frankfurt Kitchen. It is a great follow-up to the video posted here a few months ago about the 'modern' kitchen. In actual fact, this was the inspiration for that.

Re: Wednesday PWYC
As I said, I have no idea why the boards are so slow. GoDaddy swears up and down it isn't them. I just swear about GoDaddy.
As for culling old posts,
We have 218,212 posts.
Of those,
119,979 (and counting!) are in PWYC
20,229 in J&C
7207 in MO
8565 in Healthy Habits
And the archive of really old PWYC has 40,846.
I'm sure many of us are like me and us the search function to find out when something happened in our lives.
So I hate to remove all old posts. And I can't prove the slowness is because of the number of posts.
But I think it is reasonable to remove all but that last 5 years of posts from those categories. If whatever we need to know is more than 5 years past, then we'll have to just live without having a record of it in these forums.
I can set a date to do this for July 10 for instance, and then you can go through your old posts and see if there's anything you want to download.
LadyM: We are using an SQL database, and our version of PHP is 5.6, so the phpBB is well behind as is our version of PHP.
My biggest concern is changing things too much and Dee being unable to log in. Although with things so slow right now, our computers are often timing out so it appears the boards aren't working anyway.

Re: Wednesday PWYC
Harmony is sooo, sooo right --
I'd love to be able to keep all our old posts from PWYC, J&C, and MO threads -- but I am also one that very seldom ventures out beyond those main ones. I do look at the routines, "organizational tools and skills" occasionally, and occasionally the archives. It IS helpful sometimes to figure out "when did we do that" kind of stuff (re: medical procedures or trips, etc) and also as a diary/journal to help me, (just speaking for myself here) to see that yeah, I got through THAT, and this is the wisdom I received from you girls then, so I can get through THIS now, you know? But if we lose stuff, we lose stuff -- just so long as we don't lose each other! I know this is driving you nuts, Kathryn, and I appreciate sooo much all you've done so far and will do to keep us going. It's encouraging that Harriet's dd may be able to spend some time on it too!
I'm just so thankful for all you ladies have done for me to keep me emotionally stable all these years! (? LOL -- y'all might say, nah, she's not exactly "stable" yet, is she?
) Seriously, I do treasure each and every one of you!
Kathryn -- what would be the best way to save a thread from early posts -- like I think I would like to save posts from when ddad was sick and y'all were so encouraging about everything... and probably a lot of other things as well. I mean, I know I can highlight, copy and paste each post individually, but is there a better way?
Hmmm... I would love to have a labradoodle... or a golden-doodle... but nope -- don't ship it to me, LadyM! As dh always says, who will take care of it when we are gone for the weekend? And I'm not an outdoorsy enough person to have an outdoor dog, and too allergic to everything to have an indoor dog. But I bet it is a beautiful dog, anyway. Maybe your dgs will find it a good home.
You'll do great with the potato bar. Here we would probably have butter, sour cream, chives, cheese, and bacon bits, plus -- if you're investing more into it -- a choice of meats. All the bar-b-que places sell them and offer pulled pork, chicken, turkey, or brisket. But that could get expensive, for 100 potatoes. What kind of budget are you working with? Surely y'all don't have to pay for all of this on your own, do you?
And yes, not to nag, but Harmony might be right about seeing someone about that knee... (((HUGS)))
Glad you have AC and computer again, Cathy! Whew -- this time of year, that is VERY important!
I've had a * couple of * naps today, too. Took dgs to church at 9:00 and came home and slept about an hour or so... and then after dh got up, I fell asleep AGAIN. I don't know what's got into me... summer doldrums? Too much sugar early in the day? Too much stomach upset later in the day? Not sleeping well because dh is not sleeping well and needs a pain pill every morning at 5:00 a.m.? Obviously, there are lots of reasons I'm not feeling rested.
I talked to dmom this evening, and she sounded sooo much better than the last couple of times we've talked -- although she too had fallen asleep and was shocked at how late it was when I called.
All this doing nothing has my OMM list pretty long, too, Twins.
I did get a bill paid this morning, checked direct deposit on auto-teller line at bank, and I've washed and dried a load of towels for SHELDON to fold.
PLUS -- and y'all are the ONLY people in the world who will understand how happy this makes me -- I have edited and printed out
(1) a comprehensive zone task list for the whole house... and
(2) my daily checklist for the month.
Anyone but y'all would either be shaking their heads in sympathy or ROFLOL, I guess... but I am so happy to have these documents bacl.
DS found a back-up of my documents and photos through 2019 (on a flash drive I had apparently given him at some point?) -- so now, the lost documents do not go back "forever" but only for the past four years. And the former student told me that no, he had not given up, but he was running out of ideas. I told him as long as he had something in mind, to hang in there and keep trying. Eventually, I do need to get my external hard drive back from him and also the old hard drive and cable that belongs to ds -- but I'll just keep checking in with him every couple weeks of so till he says he's done all he knows to do.
I'm going to try drinking my usual diet cola for breakfast tomorrow and see how I manage. I obviously need the caffeine to get started, and *MAYBE* if I limit myself to one a day, I won't spend the whole day in the bathroom.
Do any of you have any thoughts on which artificial sweeteners are "safest"? Sounds like LordM is having great results with the stevia, but is it in any ready-made drinks? And of course, my complaint is not kidney stones but stomach upset.
-- and I will also be glad to pay if we need to take up a collection or something to get things working smoothly. It doesn't seem so much as a household routine site as a bunch of great friends who have grown to love each other and strive together to keep their lives moving ahead.
