I have realized I have been "raising chickens on paper" Mr. B of Kat YouTube - I do lots of planning and it looks wonderful - and then getting lost. I think I have to pull one card and only look at that one card before going anywhere else

It's supposed to be super hot today, tomorrow and Wednesday and then we get the break! yay!

Hello! Happy Holiday. I had forgotten this was a holiday day, I'd been thinking this was a holiday weekend and Monday ends the weekend... but no, stuff I wanted to do didn't happen because THIS is the holiday. No mail, no bank, but the good thing is we still had garbage pickup. Thank goodness! All the extras we put out to go today are gone. No more canoe. When we did that work, we looked out back for another garbage can. DH always had a bunch he took to jobs. We found half a dozen that are really torn up and no good to use, so those will go out next week for them to take away. They're not the official wheeled one they use now anyway.

I tried to download August business bank statement and couldn't get it to download. The modem looked fine with all the lights twinkling. I couldn't get around on this site either. Finally, just reset the whole thing and here I am. I always hold my breath when things don't work right because I really don't know how to fix things.

I've unloaded dishwasher. I took insurance cards for the 2 trucks out and put in their holders. This time I got all the old ones out to throw away. This chore got missed when we were sick. I'm still finding stuff I should have done during that time. RRose, hope you continue to feel better. I have no plan to get any of those vaccines either.

Going to continue puttering around. Work on the dining room next. I was going to do it the day DH wanted me to help cut up the canoe so it didn't get done.

I'm trying to get a few things prep and cooked ahead. Our ready-to-eat stash is almost nonexistent. I roasted some sweet potatoes and onions. Have the air fryer loaded with chicken nuggets. Three kinds of meat are out of the freezer to thaw. I considered cooking some salsa but am going to resist because we are keeping up with eating the ingredients raw as I bring them in from the garden.

I realized that I am getting cabin fever even though it's summer - I am sure it's because I haven't been able to go places like I usually do. I had "planned" to use this summer for beach and woods time. I especially wanted to spend the summer sailing. I am going to talk to dd older and see if she would go sailing with me once before the summer ends. I am a little nervous that the break will cause problems and that I may be asking for trouble doing this.
I know it's just cabin fever bc I am feeling better but not as stable with my ankles as it needs to be.

dogs have had a jolly time! Now for pt and exercise. put the timer on for the sprinkler and the roasted sunflowers.

I am labouring effectively today thanks to LadyM!

First, I took the morning off and enjoyed tea on the balcony before the air quality got bad (it is looking 'sepia-tinged' out there now), then I spent time putting away those 3 loads of laundry (actually 2.5 because several things were still not dry), then showered, shaved, trimmed bangs and dressed up a little in order to make myself feel good. Finally I had breakfast.

I gained about 1.5 pounds while at Hay Lake because I was 'starving' while there. I credited the fresh air but then it suddenly occurred to me it might be my ADD meds. I go off them while there and stayed off until the second last day. That day I ate way less. They are supposed to suppress one's appetite but I had never noticed it doing so. I eat so much, it didn't occur to me that I could be eating more if I wasn't on the meds. Apparently I could!

I did a quick look at different browsers and picked Opera since I have a bit of experience with it and apparently my password manager's extension in chrome works for Opera too. The Microsoft Store wasn't helpful; it failed to install a few times before I gave up and, working through Chrome got it installed and then the extension added. Ironically the extension appears to work better in Opera than Chrome!

I was researching stuff for ds. He's at work and wanted to order custom pens just like the ones I order 5 years ago. I found the confirmation email and forwarded it to him. They are now 3.5x as expensive plus a setup fee but he found some on sale and were just 2x as much and no set up fee. So he's all set. That reminded me I wanted to send him money for the wedding so I signed into my bank and did just that. And doing all this in Opera was easy.

I've now imported all my bookmarks and signing into the SHE boards was also easy-peasy.

And I have Quicken installed as well, although I have restored from backup yet.

In other words, by solving the slow running computer bit, LadyM has got me working well at recovering onto a backup computer.

LadyM: your point about 3 years should be enough for a laptop is valid but I've tended to get 4 - 5 years out of my computers before needing service and then they last a while after that. Witness the 10 year old laptop actually functioning reasonable well for me now that I've got rid of Chrome.

My newly ordered laptop cost just 3x the 5 year on-site warranty I bought in 2019. I note my new computer also costs 1/2 what my old one did but yesterday I was also considering a version that cost the same as my old one. I opted for the slightly older clearance version since the specs weren't too different between all three computers (including process clock speed). In theory I'm getting a $4200 computer on clearance for $980. Whether it ever sold for $4200 is a question mark, though. My non-functioning computer was a special order to my specific specs, so that would have added to its cost (I doubled the RAM and hard drive capacity and added a touch screen which is why my new computer's specs are so close to my old computer's specs.)

Now to see what the noise was at my door and why the dog down the hall is barking (poor thing has been home alone for a couple of weeks now and barks much more than usual because he's lonely - someone checks on him multiple times a day but he's easily upset by people walking by his door.)

After Lunch CI ~ I have piles of paper all over again I was sorting and looking for a piece of info. did not find it but got some sorting done...
So I feel a bit more productive now I need to set up the spots to sore these as they are from this year.
At least the piles are smaller sigh... Taking a bit of a break now.
Did get pile of paper clutter out of living room yea! Luv it when I make progress in rounds.
Dining room planner pages have been moved off the table!
Tried to watch a movie doing this but had seen it so put on some nice restful classical music.
Got the ddoggo walked this morning.

Does not seem like I have done much but the above mentioned project took up the remaining part of my morning.
I decided not to go to town for that other fabric I was just not in to it today I think it was the cloudy day & my allergies were acting up a bit.

I did find some volunteer squash coming up by the deck that gave me hope that stuff will grow there again.
Taking a break from papers for a bit.

I reached a point of frustration with the water bottles we have been using. We have a variety of lids & bottles on hand that I've used for years.

We use 4 water bottles every day so need several available. Three bottles go to the gym with DH, DS15 and me. DD12 takes her water bottle to school.

This morning I apparently put the wrong top on a bottle (same color different brand). The top fit well enough to pass my no leak test, but the top popped off while I was taking a drink while walking on the treadmill. What a mess! The dropped & spilt bottle caused a chain reaction resulting in my earphones pulling the phone off the treadmill and falling onto the moving walking surface. Thankfully I stepped over the dropped items as I was reaching to hit the stop button. I am rarely that coordinated so I'm somewhat surprised.

After doing a little decluttering of lids and bottles I have two bottles left in our stash. These two bottles are the same brand and have never failed so I am picking that brand to buy more. I want to eliminate the need every morning to search for matching brand lids and bottles. If they are all the same brand and size, then it should be a no brainer. I'm ordering multiple colors but the same brand & size of bottle.

LadyM: that sounds like the "sock solution" (buy only one style of sock therefore matching time is eliminated!)

I'm coming back to report I've got Quicken back up to my last backup which is probably the last time I touched it (end of July) and Zoom and Skype are up as well. I should zoom with dh to make sure that's working before my 11 a.m. meeting tomorrow.

So, much progress. And, as LadyM discovered, Chrome seems to be a resource hog and getting rid of it seems to have solved a lot of my problems with this old computer.

That's why I quit using I Explorer back in the day...it made everything run slower. I've deleted Chrome too. I wasn't using it, but I'd read something negative about the way it stores passwords and how easy it is to hack and get into everything on your computer that way. Maybe that isn't true, but it concerned me enough to get rid of it.

I've worked on the dining room. Put the coating on my last puzzle we glued to a stiff cardboard. It will need another coat. Everything else is tidied up in there and it looks better.

I looked at all my files and I was way behind. A couple months behind and then we got sick, so I've updated 3 of them. Really, I'm so over doing this stuff. We seem to have reached a standstill at getting this company closed up. Besides getting rid of all the tools and 2 trucks, I'm not sure when I can close out the bank account. I guess I shouldn't get anxious about it and get ahead of ourselves.
