Somber Saturday

Post by Dove »

So upsetting to learn that Israel was attacked this morning & is now at war. So many innocent people with their lives upended, living in chaos & fear. It's not fair that so much violence in the world is put into motion by a handful of people in leadership positions.

My motivation to tackle a big project today has disappeared. I'm going to borrow from our late dIndiana & just putter today. And pray for peace.

Hi!

I had an awful night's sleep last night. Woke up thinking about Thanksgiving supper and what order to prep the veggies...

So far this morning I have done all the laundry and it's all away other than the top bed sheet. The bottom sheet is already back on the bed. Dryer just buzzed for the top sheet.

I ran the dishwasher as well and the dishes are waiting for me to put them away.

The only thing left is large utensils. I would like to do the floors, but maybe later when dh is on the bed reading and not walking all over the clean floors.

No idea what is for supper.

It's extremely windy here today.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

ooo hoo Saturday -

the wedding was beautiful. the couple was so happy! they truly love each other!

we didn't stay as dh thought he could make it but he had panic attacks as soon as we got there. I felt so bad for dh. he really believed he could do it.

I feel blessed that We were there for the important part- the wedding of my nephew and my new niece. The wedding was held outside so it was cold but they let us sit inside behind the glass window where we saw everything up close (and warm!).

it took us 2-1/2 hours to get there bc of construction, accidents, and lol everything in between. The GPS kept trying to take us down side streets that we knew were not good. Bridport is very pretty but it is surrounds on one side by bad areas but not as bad as Austin/englewood and other areas. etc.

What I found was interesting is that you would have beautiful homes, bad areas and homelessness especially under bridges (my heart goes to them),then companies, then beautiful homes and gardens again. etc. The center parking that was fenced with staff to watch the property.

It only took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get home! . dd's came home around midnight. both dd's laughed that dd older's car is so old that no one would want it.

I am so happy that, hopefully, we don't have to go down to Chicago while the construction is going on. Probably next summer. Praying my ankles and body heal enough so that I can go sailing again. :D

(((Dove)))

I have to compartmentalize the news sometimes for my own mental health. I can't do anything about what is happening in other parts of the country & world so I choose to not give it my time, focus and energy. However, it is impossible to not hear what is happening even though I don't ever watch TV news. It is upsetting (to say the least). The only thing that I know to do to help is pray, prepare, and vote.

We have two daily thread started at the same time today. Hopefully our awesome moderators can fix it.

I'm continuing to do what is currently working for me. So it is hourly work/play challenges again today!

Because of the village chat about Chicogo yesterday I am thrilled to see a Inside Chicago video by one of my favorite utubers was just released. Watching that will be my reward for getting things done each hour.

I had already selected a half dozen videos to watch & learn before I saw that one was released. I must get things done so I can have some play time!

Accomplished in the first 4 hours of my day -
** Biscuits cooked
** BBQ and butter chicken tenderloins cooked
** Roasted multiple peppers
** Rabbits cared for
** Sorted and organized years of the kids Halloween costumes. Teamed up with them to decide what to keep and what to give away.
** 14 hard boiled eggs into deviled eggs.
** Watered and harvested in the garden - okra, sweet potatoes and peppers....seemingly endless peppers. There are still dozens waiting to be harvested.

Hum....it doesn't seem like much but I did stay busy. Interacting with kids takes more time than I realize somedays.

hello d Nancy! thank you thank you for starting us!
I like how you said that: "success list for this week" wonderful!!!
I love it!

HI d cathy!! I am so sorry you had an awful night sleep!
look at those spiffy cleaned dishes and having your sheets done!

have a wonderful day everyone!!!

today. it's up in the air!!!

it depends on mom. Mom woke up and she thought my brother had left already - she asked dd if she was in France or the states. She dreamt that we had left her in France, dd knows mom and how to deal with Alzheimer's and asked mom if she saw anyone she knew - and if not she should look for them. Mom thought that was brilliant. Afterwards she called me (early) and told me how lonely it was waking up without having the dog there.

I just spoke to her - my brother is working at her place and she remembers nothing from this morning when she woke. happy as can be!

alrighty: I have lots to do but if I look at it like that then I will slow down to a stop. time for the dailies.

hello d lady! I agree.

d lady - good for you for working and then giving yourself a well deserved reward!!!
oooo look at you - mmm the food you prepared sounds delicious!
yay on your work too!!!!

I can't take it all in bc I can only do what I can do in my small way. Prayer, donating a wee something, being kind a long my day is the way I see I can help the bigger picture. It is hard not to take in everything you hear and see.

I keep thinking that things have been this way before and I live here in the states. My grandparents lived through the war, capture, loosing family etc.
My grandparents/great grandparents went through things that I can not even imagine and they were the most positive people I have ever known.

I was reading a 20 year old essay "Fear Itself" by Gene Weingarten about responding to fear of terrorism in the US. In it he travels to Jerusalem to see how the people there manage to live under the threat of daily terrorism. It is a long essay and I've been reading while eating so it has been over a few days. Today I finished it, struck by the juxtaposition of reading this article while also processing today's news. It was a surreal feeling that it is 20 years later and the current events so that nothing has changed.

Not a productive day at all. I'm s2s and have finished reading that essay. Aside from that, this was supposed to be day two of getting lots of residents' association stuff done and I haven't done a thing over the past 2 days.

I'm alive. The weather has been glorious to the point of distraction but I'm still struggling with the shorter days and a sense of doom. It is paralyzing me. I'm back to wearing a mask to hopefully keep me well as I am too busy to get sick and I'm not sure if I'd mentally recover if I had to miss ds's wedding due to illness. Dh just got back from a trip so I'm not sleeping in my own bed and we are more like ships passing in the night (and if I do anything with him in a room, I wear a mask.)

My computer was fixed a week ago but I discovered the speaker no longer works so another repair work order has been started. Sigh.... I had to jump to my new computer from that one when zoom didn't work but I thought it was a setting issue. Then I spent an hour trying to 'fix' the settings before realizing it is hardware issue. It is only the speaker itself (probably not plugged into the motherboard after the repair) so I have installed an external speaker until the repair can happen. I'm just glad to have my files back.

I've merged the topics and they have come out in the correct chronological order but have kept the second, not the first, title. I started working in Nancy's topic with all the responses, selecting the other to merge in, so I thought I understood how it would work. Perhaps I should have started in the other. Ah well, here we are.

Harriet - Thank you!

Kathryn - It is good to see you posting again. You have been missed!

I've gotten off track with my hourly challenges. DS15 requested to spend time at pumpkin patch located in another county. I am thrilled to see DS15 willing to do something other than work, so I was all in on doing an hour driving to make his request happen. I'll go back later and pick him up. He is meeting friends there so there is the possibility that he might ride home with someone who is being driven by their parents.

I have a great reluctance about DS15 riding with teenage drivers. We are entering into a new phase of DS15 teenage life where he goes outside of our small town with friends and does things without adults. I can't count all the teenagers i have known over the years that have been killed with a vehicle full of teenagers. Being unexperienced and distracted while driving is a recipe for disaster. I relented last night and let DS15 go with one of his lifelong DFriends for a few hours. His DFriend is a 17 year old that has a maturity beyond his age. Plus his DFriend just got a new pickup so he is extremely protective of it so that adds another layer of hope that he will making good decisions while driving. DS15 is the youngest in his grade so most all his friends already have their driver's license now. I am unabashedly stringent on picking and choosing which teenage driver that DS15 can ride with.

DD46 came and got DD12 to spend time together. Hopefully they will be successful with DD12 insect project.
