Weathering Wednesday PWYC
We have another day here of the high hitting 80. This is crazy! In addition, we've barely had rain so things are bone dry and we're having wild fires, which are affecting air quality.
What are you weathering today?
What are you weathering today?

Re: Weathering Wednesday PWYC
Good morning!
Our temps are predicted to be 89F today then take a 34 degree drop tomorrow along with rain. After this brief drop in temps then we return to normal 70's for the upcoming week.
I will be out of the house numerous times today. In addition to the normal activities, I will be using 2 kitchens to cook evening meal for 125. I have my biggest pot simmering on my stove now. At noon I will fill the double ovens at church, and they will just need to be occasionally monitored for the following 5 hours. An hour before we serve food, I will do full time hands on for the final prep.
PODA for today
7:30 DD12 to school
8:45 DH, DS15 and myself to gym
Noon - Working in church kitchen to do 90% of the prep for the meal.
3:30 - DD12 from school
4:30 - get DS15 girlfriend
5:00 - finish prep for meal
5:45 - serve meal and clean up
6:30 -- worship
7:30 - take DS15 girlfriend home
LucyLee - Did I miss how your trip with DGS went last weekend?
I'm not a sport fan AT ALL but last night I attended a high school basketball game and enjoyed it immensely. Several decades ago, we did about 20 years nonstop attending sport games when DS50 and DD47 were growing up. Once they graduated then we filled our hours with other things. Attending the game last night brought back some really good memories. We only knew about 6 people at the game (DS15 girlfriend and family) so it wasn't social where we were talking to lots of friends/family. I would like to attend more high school games. I'm still a little reluctant from the covid times with being in crowds of strangers in enclosed spaces. Will that hyper awareness eventually wear off?

LadyM I am curious as to what you are cooking today.
We are having a steak for supper. After the flaming t bone steak that dh made last week, I am definitely cooking this one.
I have been busy doing repetitive things, like putting away laundry, loading dishwasher and turning it on, doing all of those annoyingly sharp knives that were in the sink, along with 2 of the 3 cutting boards. Dh uses them to prepare his breakfast/lunch and then leaves them on the table...
I also put away absolutely all of the stuff on the long dresser that belongs to me. There is a laundry basket that has a large white towel in it that the Baby cat sleeps in sometimes. There is also dh's pile of clean pants. I know that it's time to do laundry when there is one or two pairs left.
Plus, for a bonus, I dusted my bedside table and moved the huge pile of books from the bedside table to the top of the nearest bookcase mere inches away. I hope that prompts me to actually deal with them. They are all biographies, but there is no more room on those 5 bookcases to put any more biographies, so I need to go through them and get rid of some.
It's cold here. I also need to take a small load to the landfill and go to the bank at some point today.

Re: Weathering Wednesday PWYC
Good morning! Yesterday went about as planned. Thank you for the birthday wishes for DH.
You get an actual pin for voting, Harriet? We just get a sticker.
I can’t stick around long; the big thing on today’s agenda is a therapy appointment! Last time I had a psychiatrist appointment, my doctor (in the resident med-check clinic) said he’d refer me to the resident therapy clinic, but they have limited spots. Yesterday (a couple months after the referral), I got a call and had an appointment set up for today. I hope it goes well — the doctor has a fairly heavy Indian accent.
Other than that, the big plan for today is to schlep the kids out to an anime movie. Which reminds me — I need to set up an early dinner so they can eat something before going and DH can eat before Scouts.
Have a good one, everybody!

Re: Weathering Wednesday PWYC
I'm up and s2s. Brain is all over the map AND I know I took my ADD meds!
I was thinking of computer backup solutions this morning and how much to do locally and how much to do on the cloud. My new computer is convinced I want to use MS OneDrive and is constantly serving up error messages that I'm out of room for the free account and thus no backups are being made. It is wrong about no backups, my files go to dropbox so are automatically backed up. But not everything is on dropbox, including my bujo and planner sheets, so I need to decide if I'm committing to it or should I use Google or something else.
That reminded me that our local backup system needs replacing. It is over a decade old and the software on it is no longer supported or secure and it won't work with newer portable drives. So I thought I should order dh to solve this problem but before I could say anything, and in the middle of my getting dressed for the day, he came in to say he needed a computer/phone reset pin and did I have an extra and it turned out the local system was acting up and he was doing a reset on it. So I told him to buy a new one instead. Then he felt guilty about making me give that order and I had to explain that I had already gone through the thought process this morning on my own and all he did is have me tell him while I still wasn't fully dressed!
So I'm guess we'll be off to the store this afternoon (he searched and the local shop has 3 in stock and cheaper than Amazon.)
Off to start with 15s while I try and get more focus for the day.

Re: Weathering Wednesday PWYC
Good morning to Twins, LadyM, Cathy, Mystery, Nancy, Kathryn & all who stop by later.
Cathy, I used to buy inexpensive foam mattress covers (the kind that look like the inside of an egg carton) at W Mart. I would fold up a twin sized one & put it inside ddog's bed when it would start to go flat. It might be time consuming to cut into small pieces, but may be cheaper than buying foam pieces already cut & bagged.
Lucylee & Mystery, I love The G ilded A ge, too! During Season One I was so impatient waiting a whole week to see what happened next, so this season I'm not watching until I have several episodes recorded to watch back to back
.
Helped dh with an E xcel form. Struggled a bit with it as I rarely used it in the past & don't use it at all now. After posting here I'm going to take down the Fall decorations. Oh, I need to thaw pork chops for dinner first. Will make pierogies with Parmesan sauce to go with them. Dh loves this sauce that I threw together years ago, & it's easy & tasty. Just melt butter in a bowl in the microwave, stir in about the same amount of room temperature Parmesan (the powdery kind from a jar) until it's thick but will still pour, & add some dried parsley for color. Adjust the amount of butter & Parm to how many servings you need. Tastes good with frozen broccoli, too, when I don't have fresh to roast.
Be back later to read pp 2&3 from yesterday. Poof!

We went to the bank and the landfill, so most of the things I wanted to get done today are done. Dh just had a shower and now he's having lunch. I just had lunch because I couldn't wait for him. We had turkey thighs last night and there were left overs, so I had turkey on rye bread with mayo. I've been craving it and it was delicious.

Re: Weathering Wednesday PWYC
I am home from a successful sweaty workout and feeling the need for a break.
Kathryn - I learned a painful lesson about using somewhere other than OneDrive to back up my Microsoft office files. I have several online backup spots and OneDrive isn't my favorite. HOWEVER, MS office will only do auto backups to OneDrive. I have used 3rd party app to do daily backups of my frequently used files but that also failed and became untrustworthy. After losing information multiple times I gave up fighting them and use OneDrive for my frequently used MS office files with autosave set and admit it does work. I still consider Dropbox to be my long-term storage with OneDrive being my short term for ms files. I do backup some files on amazon and google drives for other purposes
**Potatoes (80 baked) I learned 3 hours baking at 450 in the oven isn't enough. All 6 of the oven racks are full so I have increased the baking time to 4 hours. I plan on one hour to scrub and prep the potatoes while ovens are preheating. Total time = 5 hours
**Tortilla chips
**Sliced brisket (10 lbs)
**Smoked beans (5 lbs dried pinto beans cooked. I might make baked beans with them today. I haven't decided)
**Cheese shredded (5lb bag)
**Cheddar Cheese sauce (2 gallons heated up in 2 slow cookers)
**Butter
**Sour Cream
**Peppers - sliced Jalapeno and chopped bell.
**Onions- chopped fresh or caramelized
**Salsa
**Ketchup
**BBQ sauce
** Desserts are brought potluck style. There are usually several pies, cakes and cookies.

It is the same meal I cook once a month for church family. It is fairly easy now that I have figured out amounts and times. The menu is loaded baked potato and/or loaded nachos. I make all the ingredients then everyone decides what they want to put on their plate. The majority of the kids go for nachos and most of the adults do the loaded baked potato. The ingredients to the meal =I am curious as to what you are cooking today.
