Smooth and Satisfying Sunday

I hope today goes smoothly and you end the day and this week satisfied with your accomplishments, be they minor or many. (Although I recognize that most of you think the week the ended yesterday, I start my weeks on Mondays so this is the last day of the week for me.)

Especially, I hope that the wedding family can breathe, put their feet up a bit, and look back on yesterday satisfied that the important bits all went smoothly.

I got to bed at 10:30 last night, having unloaded the dishwasher and got all my tea things ready for morning. I'm still finding the bed causes my back to hurt, but at least by adding dh's pillow, I no longer feel I'm sleeping with my head below my heart (an actual possibility due to sloping floors in this old cabin along with my head, on soft pillows, sinking into the brand-new memory foam mattress.) At least we've answered the question, "Is a memory foam mattress good for us?"

When I wake up in discomfort/pain, I manage to pull myself onto my side and pull up my knees. I tend to fall back asleep in that position quickly (yay for the melatonin!) and the pain goes away and when I wake up again, I'm fine.

Today I did a morning in-bed stretching routine from the exercise class leader we have. She put several of her routines for seniors online and it is easy (and comforting) to follow her instructions since I'm used to them from her in-person class. And I trust she won't tell me to do anything that isn't safe for seniors as that is her specialty. She was a nurse and helped her recovering patients regain mobility and decided to become a specialist for seniors to avoid ending up in the hospital in the first place by improving our stability and flexibility. I absolutely love her and feel really blessed that the city has come up with continuing funding for her so we can have our weekly class (originally she was 'ours' for just 8 weeks.)

I'll do the full chair exercise routine later this morning after my tea. I might do it two times. And I hope to get two 15 minute walks in. Rain isn't due for 3 hours so I'll at least get one in.

Aside from treating my body better, my goals for the day are to accomplish the 12 items on my to-do list for the trip. Or as many as I can. Some are 5 minute niggling things, some are hours long. In the meantime, I need to pull myself away from watching the young robin out looking for grubs on his own. Up until now, I've only seen him out with an adult. Living at ground level offers a much different set of things to watch than living in the sky.

I had a good night's sleep last night. In other words, I didn't have to get up to go to the bathroom until after 6:30.

Dh let all the cats out before I got up.

Dh wants to go to Niagara Falls. He noticed that we were very low on parmesan cheese last night. I don't think it's an emergency, but he's bothered. He also said something about getting something for supper.

Another morning of waking up to a clean kitchen.

I too hope that all in the wedding party had a wonderful day making many happy memories.

At the moment I am watching the men’s finals for the French Open while my sheets spin in the washer. After I finish my coffee I’ll hop on my gazelle to get my steps in and then do my 15 min strength video

Katheryn…my class on Wednesdays are chair exercises… most of which are 30 minutes long. Most are weight optional and there are plenty of great videos to choose from on YT. The oldest gal in our class is 91 and seldom misses a day.

I have a few things I want to do around my home today. I have another load of laundry. I have two denim jumpers I adore. They are still a bit stiff so I am going to add some salt in the wash to see if that helps. I tend to wear shifty type causal dresses when it’s hot out. I’m much cooler in them than shorts when I need to go out and even have one I can wear while my garden. It too is a jumper denim one that I’ve had for over 20 years and by now the material is as soft as my pjs.

I have a section in my prayer planner on growth seeds etc.

Going well except for the A/C thing I will call the man Mon.

Made coffee cake for me it's a bit too done but not burnt! LOL!

I had a long day yesterday. Coming home after dinner my tummy was off so I got into bed immediately. I do get car sick in dh's car sometimes, tummy was off then he mentioned that his salmon wasn't cooked as well as he wanted, and I realized mine wasn't either. And then tummy rumbled more with the thought of raw salmon. (It wasn't raw, but the thought of it wasn't reassuring.)

Lucylee, you do have a chance to reinvent yourself and it's okay to do just what you want. For the last years you've been very invested in what he wanted to do: football, basketball, baseball, riding around on Sunday nights, and taking care of him. Now you can take time and decide what you want going forward.

Cathy, nice to hear of your clean kitchen successes!

Hello on Sunday, here is the news from Wedding Bells Saturday.

To paraphrase Mark Twain, if I'd had more time, I could have made it shorter.

Morning prep -

Outdoor seating became easy when the number of chairs in the rows of seats were ALL increased by the venue folks to 7 on both sides, except for the two first rows of 6. That was a blessing for everyone, I think. It wasn't as if we had walls to run into, lol, and none of our family had to be separated.

The tall groomsman was so helpful to the coordinator and to me as we hung the quilt indoors near reception seating. I felt very confident about it. Groomsmen, groom and his Dad were already at work, creating the arbor-draping outside, above spot for minister/couple.

Afternoon wedding -

It is true HRH and I were both frantic before we left for wedding - me more than him. But all issues squared away and off we went, on time.

First were our family photos outdoors under a huge magnolia. We enjoyed that and then coordinator announced dd25's arrival on our scene. Photographer zeroed in on HRH's face for that. And she was seeing for the first time that he wore a vest in the family tartan and the clan badge.

I had seen the dress in many variations of with/without sheer drape, of neckline lower, higher, of back nipped at waist and back nipped at a princess line. Also had seen her hair many different ways, of up, down, back, and with pearl barrette. Undoubtedly, she and the girls had made the very best final choices for each. She really looked beautiful (drape and barrette). Feature of the dress - a pocket, where she carried her vows.

She and I each wore one-half of my mother's double pearls (not real, but really look it). Someone (the young man?) had given her pearl earrings a while back and they were perfect.

The couple had designed slim bookmark-like order of service for everyone, with attendants' names, names of those recently passed. The tiny silk flowers from the reception table decor were also on those.

She was whisked back upstairs in the house on the grounds, and families were lined up through the first story of the house with attendants behind. Soooooo hot with that many people in an old house! Our family went out mostly two by two with our green-eyed boy escorting me last. That way, he then just sat beside the chair for his flower-girl sister, who was to be next beside HRH after each of them finished their responsibilities. So I got my wish for an escort without the awkwardness of anyone having to step over other's feet to be seated. (Had to stop HRH and dgdC elbowing each other during the service! She assures me he started it.)

The bagpiper played hymns during seating and procession, something nice (don't remember) for the bride. Minister was so gracious and calm - short sermon as we sat in the sun (smile). The couple read vows that were rather adorable, but brief. Still, a bunch of sniffling all around. Grateful for the venue's sound system so everyone could hear.

After pronouncement, bagpiper played Scotland the Brave, which dd had requested as her recessional.

Great fun indoors at the reception, seeing friends and family we hadn't seen in a long time. I talked and talked (do ya think?). Mexican buffet cafeteria-style service was complimented a lot. I was surprised how many are vegetarians now and mentioned they liked the choices they had. So... .. a little casual to me to have basically tacos that could be personalized, lol, but great for the guests in general and all the kids loved it.

Our three other kids were on the lookout for smart decisions they could make, rescuing me and HRH from worrying about so many little things. My wrist corsage came apart one too many times and ds just pocketed the errant flowers so that no one kept trying to fasten them back anymore.

The attendants were all the picture of unselfishness, running to do so many tasks, and each speaking kindly as the mic was passed around after Matron of Honor's toast. Only the best man attempted comic relief, and he is actually good at it, so he got a lot of laughs. He made a big deal out of reading from page after page, often very obviously skipping over parts that I'm sure weren't really on the page at all, saying, "yada, yada, yada" and turning over a page, motioning to us as if he'd decided we didn't want to hear whatever it was.

Cake was one of the more formal things, with English Ivy (my mother's favorite) and a topper dd had illustrated, of groom as Mario and bride as a Lily Munster/Morticia Adams type character. The young man had executed it in plexiglass at his work. Many surprise treats for the treat bags, including my fav, Good and Plenty, and dstepdil's fav, Jelly Belly. All guests received a succulent plant with funny sayings or funny faces on their label sticks.

Archery and corn-hole on the lawn for the children or young at heart who came, and ds was all over that, as were several of the attendants.

Got home a tired Mom. Hungry - I hardly ate a thing, lol. Feet hurt, but that was a trade-off to be matchy-matchy in groomsmen wedding color of purple and I'm glad I did it - this once, lol. Groom's mother wearing bridesmaids' wedding color of light green was in a silk-like evening gown. I didn't get that memo, lol, but our colors were right.

Warm thought, maybe? A cousin jogged my memory and another cousin's memory that the crochet jacket I wore, which has a vintage look, was almost the same as my maternal grandmother's when she attended the weddings of two of her children (one my mother) on the same day just hours apart. And yes, I remember seeing many times that vintage crochet purple jacket and the dress she wore, always saved, always called "Granny's wedding outfit". She kept it her whole life, then my aunt, who played piano for the weddings, kept it. Cousin says that when I was looking for wedding clothing, I must have felt a latent unconscious attraction to that jacket and chose that outfit. Maybe so.

Oh, Harriet! It sounds PERFECT! Beautiful, delicious, and FUN! And sooo thoughtful, from the candy gift bags and the wedding topper and HRH’s tartan… it just sounds perfect!

I second this. Although I think it might take some time and thought to decern what you want going forward in your life. You now have new options and the ability to focus on your preferences.

We are home from church. I found it somewhat amusing that I had volunteers completely covering the nursery today, but we still ended up with a one-year-old in our arms all through the church service. It is like we have some sort of magnet that draws in babies and toddlers. DH and I were sitting in our chairs waiting for worship service to start when Mom and Toddler walked by. The toddler reached out her arms for us to hold her. We assumed it would be for a few minutes, but she quietly stayed with us the entire service.

Lunch was Sunday standard meal. Honey roasted chicken nuggets and waffle fries cooked in air fryer. Simple. Easy. Quick. Done.

Walked early today.
Liv. rm. got a spiff and pupa it's tolerable now.
Tried the nano message boards what a non productive time suck ack!
Had lunch.

Worked on the table and put away most stuff I was done with.
Some not... more is out on the butterfly room work space.
Might be at a place to stop rest a bit.
Have done zero yard work today that was my plan and how I'm resting.

Glad it's cooler today.
