Summer Solstice Thursday

Post by Twins' Mom »

Today is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere; it normally falls between 20 June and 22 June, most commonly on 21 June. Here's a handy dandy chart for the length of daylight, sunrise and sunset in many cities: https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/usa

What will you make of your longest day of the year?

The birds certainly know it is the longest day, they were noisy by 4:20 this morning!

Today is supposed to be the last day of the heat wave, tonight it will dip to 61*F. Last night we managed to cool the cottage down to 73, but it feels warmer than that because of the humidity. No sun yet today and I'm relieved. The porch is so nice and cool (I'm using a fan to get a breeze since there is no wind) I'm still here instead of up and dressed.

Off to s2s. I have a nice outfit laid out for the day because we are going to town today to run errands.

The tower fan on the porch is so quiet, I'm tempted to buy another since several of the fans here are quite noisy, and it is on sale, but it is also expensive. The issue I have is that my big fan which I brought up (thankfully!) is needed at home when dgs3 sleeps over (he sleeps to a fan sound, as do I.) My next trip there will be 4 of us in the car and while it is only for a couple of days, it will be crowded since the kids are getting big enough that I can't put much at their feet. I won't have room for the big fan. Although I just had the thought I could bring my little bedroom fan up instead and move the fan from the bedroom here to the kids bedroom. Hmmm. I'm still tempted to buy the big fan but once the cottage rental is over (actually after August) I won't need it here and will have to store in the future at the apartment.

Good Morning!

Twins - Thank you for the start today and information about sun. I didn't realize today is the longest day of the year. 14 hours 30 minutes here.

I had a good start to my day. Outside walk done with a bit of excitement. A cow was standing in the middle of the road. I took a picture and sent it to its owner and he replied that he was heading this way. I tried to put the cow back in by myself, but the cow stood its ground and didn't back down. I didn't know the personality of this cow, so I walked away. If she decided to charge me there was no place for me to take cover. When I got back to my house, I turned around only to discover the cow had followed me home. I knew then that the cow wasn't wild. I grabbed a couple branches to hold out and was able to walk the cow back down the road and into the gate of its pasture. The interaction with livestock brought back some good memories.

DGS27 has been asking for one-on-one time with me and I have failed in making that happen. I have arranged to meet him tonight to eat together and walk the streets of a local touristy type place. For several years, DGS27 and I met one-on-one every week but it fell by the wayside while I was busy raising the 2 youngest. That weekly meeting with DGS27 would be a good tradition to start again.

Hi everyone!

Dh is outside doing some weed whacking.

I have taken the compost, garbage and recycling to the end of the driveway. I've also deep cleaned both cat litter boxes. I also vacuumed the kitchen, living room and bathroom.

Waiting for the washing machine to finish this load. I'm getting a message on the machine and I am going to look online to see what the problem is.

Supper tonight will be cold salads again. Tonight we will have chicken burgers to go with the salads. We didn't have anything with them last night and I felt hungry for the rest of the night. Rice pudding just before bed helped me feel less hungry.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

thinking of LH and stories he told making notes for prompts to write on that in the coming days weeks months.
Not weepy so I must be better. I am okay if I do not get out the pics. I think.
-----
Next load of laundry is in the dryer.
had bfast & did up the dishes.
I'm to the last of my step goals today 88% done I think. 120 - 107 cal. less than 1, 000 steps to do and it is 9:00 a.m.
Oh my lordy 5 pages of prompts for LH early days on paper. Seems so overwhleming.

I usually find it's easier to get up when the days are longer, but not this year. My alarm went off at 7:30 but I turned it off in a daze. Dh woke me up coming back through after his workout, which is over at 8 a.m. plus maybe 15 min travel time. He s2s-ed and took off - we'll eat out tonight. I've walked the ddog two laps so she's good.

Five things;
-webinar - going now
-get annuals into pots and water in front of the house - this morning, I hope
-dinner out and time with dh
-Lowes, planters/pots for repotting, potting soil - after workout
-workout today at two

DGD woke me up before I was really ready to face the day. I think I will declare this day a day of rest. Even though I did nothing but sit most of the day yesterday, I am still tired. I loved looking at the chart, Twins! I had never heard of the different types of twilight. That was interesting. I have about 14 hours of daylight today.

Haven't returned text to friend.. need to do that...
But right now, I'm just going to lie on the couch and watch TV.

Waving to ALL...

I wish that SUNNY would check in with some news from HARMONY!
I wish that BLESSED would check in with some news from her household!
Tomorrow is another day.

Today is our last cooler day before the temps go over 100F. However, the humidity is high so my body thinks it is hotter than it really is. My body starts sweating when I stay outside for more than a few minutes. I took a bath this morning and put on clean clothes, however I have been outside twice since my bath and both times I was covered in sweat and my clothes damp with sweat. I am reminding myself that sweating is one of the best ways the body has to detox. People go to saunas so they can get a good skin detox by sweating. No need for manmade saunas here because we have a natural sauna available all day.

At midnight last night i told both of the kids to "Go to sleep!" DD13 was talking with a friend on the phone while she was playing an online game on laptop. DS15 was on the phone with his girlfriend. He worked 9 hours in the heat yesterday then came home and spent 5 hours with his girlfriend IRL and who know how many hours on the phone with her. DS15 was two hours late arriving at work this morning. As I was driving DS15 to work I told him there is a high probability that he will be fired for repeatedly not showing up on time. #LifeLessons

Lucylee, you mentioned my dh the other day - that he wakes up early naturally - but it's a curse to be honest. There are mornings he can' t sleep past four a.m., or whatever, and then he's asleep in front of the tv as soon as dinner is over. We are on such different schedules! I'm up maybe 7 or 7:30 when I'm not struggling, and I go to bed at ten or ten-thirty.

Webinar is over, I'm dressed for workout and eating lunch.

The sun came out while I was showering and when I went back to the porch it was 5 degrees warmer.

We head out to town in 15 minutes.

I've updated our calendar to show I'm kidnapping dgs3 for sure at the end of the month. Dh's friends are coming up the next day for the weekend.

Dozens of church emails today. Days like this tip the scale to giving up on that church.

I have a tummy ache. Not sure if it is the heat, the sitting on the stool at my computer, or the upset at church.
