Re: Super Silly Sunday
Just finished my lunch and it sure is storming here
I ended up exercising to my video for 45 minutes and then swam awhile in my pool. Came in and ate my lunch.
My sheets are done so they are next on the list. However when I was out in the lanai I came across a critter that was about 9” long crawling across the pavers. Couldn’t tell if it was a worm or tiny snake. I was curious about it so I put on a pair of garden gloves as a precaution. Glad I did because this little guy didn’t like that and even as small as he was viscously tried to bite me!
I used my Google to take a picture to research what he was. Turned out he is a Three Legged Aquatic Salamander who can grow to be three feet long with a poisonous bite. Nasty little guy. Sweetie says he finds them swimming in the pool all the time. Upon further looks I found three more dead ones on other parts of our pavers.

Re: Super Silly Sunday
Back from church it was great!
They had it in the foyer and it was bright and light smaller for the smaller amount of people there today.
The main part had not been reset from the funeral yesterday.
I really liked it today. Songs were a bit rough but we managed.
They had sauerkraut left over I did not get any that stuff is made with sugar. Speaking of ...
Next week it sugary Sunday they actually said that pancake feed ~ me not going to that one no service just missionaries and greeting
get to know you type of service. Last time they were there it was way to lo-o-o-ng, for me!
Stopped by that yard sale and got the items I wanted and thought about were still there yea!
So I can do some multi colored yarn projects using the new to me crochet book and put em in the market bags.
I can paint on the bags too.
Had lunch saw a neighbor dog taking himself for a walk about around the block!
It headed back home.
I'm SO excited about July / Cmas in July /One book July / Nancy Camp!

Re: Super Silly Sunday
Absolutely skippable. Why am I even posting this?
Paragraph #1 - Anyone need a 15 year old full of self-declared wisdom plus a massive amount of vim & vigor? Raise your hand and I'll put him on a plane to your destination. If only.
On our way to the city to pick up the curbside order, we see DS15 and a friend on the side of the highway. The friend pickup quit. I found a place to turn around and went back and picked them up. They left the friends pickup on the driveway of a rv park.
DS15 started telling us how they were going to proceed. His plan is to use our vehicle to go borrow a car hauler and then.....I stopped DS15 right there and told him that I appreciate his immediately jumping into problem solving mode ....but this is not his problem to solve. It is the friend problem. DS15 can be supportive and helpful but not take over solving his friend problem. I want his friend to learn why it is important to learn these life skills. I want DS15 to learn to stay in his own lane. He has MORE than he can handle just taking care of his own problems.
This is DS15 friend who graduated high school and has no plans to get a job or continue his education. He has no plans except waiting until his girlfriend gets off work every day. Oh...his other plan is that he is eagerly waiting until the first of the month when he will receive $40. His grandpa puts $40 in his account on the first of every month to put gas in his pickup. Can you say that I am not a fan with his lack of effort to get going on his life? I feel like this friend is taking advantage of DS15 because he always has pocket money that he is willing to share. Hard earned money from waking up every morning and working....while the friend chooses not work. I am cranky that DS15 just keeps giving and giving money to this friend. The friend girlfriend works full time and also shares her money with him. I am trying to resist the urge to tell him - Dude! Quit being a free loader!
Instead I tell DS15 that this friend has to go home. He is not staying at our home all day. Now DS15 is upset because I'm not letting his "friend" hang out with him.
ARgh!! Refer to paragraph #1

Re: Super Silly Sunday
((LadyM)), I hope all the efforts work out, and if they don't, I hope there's something that is learned.
This morning, I did some work outside, finishing with taking the truck to get rid of some recycling and trash. I had looked at the weather and it was "only" 87 at that moment, on the way to 95 with a "feel" of 99 plus thunderstorm. Hurried to get finished in the "only this hot" moment.
With that out of the way, I called dgs13 and picked him up at home. Normally I'd say just walk but that is really hot weather. He came here and did some extra work, had a bit of a driving lesson with me, and shared strawberry shortcake with HRH. He was interested in my sewing room, and said he had no idea how to even thread a needle. So, he got my regular lesson I used to do for classes years ago, in threading and then making the quilter's knot quickly. Thread tips. I showed him, also, all the different needles I have and extra tools - self-threading needles and metal-wire threaders. So now he knows how to use those, too.
A terrific lightning and thunderstorm shook things up pretty well around here, sure enough, this evening about 7. Seemed very close. No problems close to the house. We'll check more tomorrow when it's daylight. Very much needed, and I was grateful to see puddles.
☂ Whew.
Yes, I did go outside in the calm start of rain to appreciate, ducking back in before the violent carrying-on.

Re: Super Silly Sunday
Oh my goodness, yes, LadyM... you are 100% right in your feelings re: this "friend." Definitely need to let this young man figure out his own problems -- y'all have more than plenty going on at your house without "taking this one to raise," as we say around here.
Praying for LordM! (and you!)
Bsweet, I'm having the watermelon dilemma too. I actually did buy a whole melon a few weeks ago at Wmart, but when I cut it, it looked sorta odd in the middle, and I tasted of it, and it was "okay," but I thought, "in one more day this is going to be icky (as you said) and it is not worth it to cut this up and put it in refrigerator." So this week, I just bought a small container of the already cut watermelon at Wmart, and it cost about as much as the whole melon, but it certainly saves on time and trouble.
We had a thunderstorm with heavy rain this afternoon, and guess what? My ceiling is STILL leaking. I am so disappointed, and I know the carpenter friend is going to be so disgusted with the whole thing... but ds called him and he said he would be here in the morning. Sigh. Now y'all see why this has been such an ongoing, drawn-out issue. We have to wait for a big rain, or two, and then start all over...
I went to church this morning with the dgrands. DS out of town, DDIL having migraine or sinus headache. Dgrands spent the afternoon with me, and then we went to dmom's church for their VBS kickoff -- water slides, bouncy house, ice cream and desserts. DGD was really, really hesitant to go down the water slide (and it WAS the tallest one I've ever seen), but when she finally summoned up her courage and started climbing the steps, she was sold on it! I had to practically drag them away after 90 minutes or so. It was sooo hot for those of us who were NOT soaking wet!
My cousins had told dmom to tell me to bring the kids, and so I spent the evening talking to them and had a nice time.
Dgrands wanted to come home with me, but their mom wanted them to help her straighten up the house before ds gets home. His bandmate's wife may be coming to pick him (the bandmate) up at ds' house and ddil is afraid she'll be early and expect to hang out with ddil. This fellow's car broke down about halfway from his house to ds', and now his car is in a Wmart parking lot somewhere in KY.
I would have been glad to have the dgrands tonight, but I do have stuff to do...
Priorities:
[x] allergy shots
[ ] wash dishes
[x] reconcile bank statement
[x] exercise
[x] prepare planner for the week
[ ] s2bed (so I'll be prepared whatever time carpenter shows up tomorrow)

Re: Super Silly Sunday
Home from parent meeting to meet the sponsors, hear the rules, plans, schedule and sign up DS15 for camp. I was welcomed into that group and never felt a moment of being an outsider. I am feeling good about DS15 going with this group to camp. They do things differently than any of the other camps DS15 and DD13 have attended. Their rules are written (2 pages) covering all aspects and were discussed in detail. If the kids violate the rules, then they will be sent home. They don't give second chances. One of the rules that will challenge DS15 the most will be cell phone usage. All kids must hand over their cell phone and anything else with a screen to the sponsor before they leave for camp. The kids will get to use their phones for one hour each night and then hand their phone back to the sponsor until the next evening. If we need to contact our kid during the other 23 hours of the day, then we can get hold of our kids by texting the sponsor if there is an emergency.
I would struggle to go screen free for 23 hours a day for a week. It is going to be interesting how DS15 deals with life without screens.
FYI - This is the largest youth camp in America. Baptist. They have about 5K attending this youth camp each week.
We are not Baptist, but I encourage DS15 going there if that is what he chooses.
I am going to the big city by myself in the morning for a periodontal appointment. Ugh. I am not looking forward to any part of it. OH WAIT. That isn't the truth because I am looking forward to having it over with.

Re: Super Silly Sunday
Lucylee: I had dh buy a watermelon when he ran out for groceries for me tonight. Without the car (see below) I felt it was a lot to ask, especially as I have 3 quarts of berries (also see below) in the fridge but I really wanted some.
***
Mine was not a super silly Sunday. It started off with small slights, then a tragic breaking of my glass teapot ($10 at IKEA and my second so far so not expensive, it just meant I lost all my time for tea to cleaning up.) Then I was so sore I could barely walk to do my errand (see back to the small slights, it was a misunderstanding twix me and dh that lead to no stretching before exiting bed, which led to awkward movements leading to a broken teapot and pain.)
Rebooted my day after doing the errands. Looked at my pedicure which had dried 15+ minutes between coats and almost 2 hours before putting on socks and shoes and noted my socks stuck to my nails so they are no longer shiny.
Day was lovely as I steeped my tea but I was driven off the balcony due to high winds that came up about 10 minutes after settling in to enjoy the view. Then dd called to ask if I wanted to go berry picking. So I changed out of my pretty dress and new sandals into pants that could get dirty, ate breakfast, put on sunscreen, and headed over.
The berries were plentiful but tasteless. You prepay on the way in so it wasn't like I could give it up and just pick a few, I was committed to 3 quarts. Got that picked fairly quickly and then took the grands to play. On the wagon ride back, it started to rain but it didn't last long and the kids played in a playhouse/slide to stay out of the rain in case it got bad.
Then my car sent a notification to my phone saying the 12V battery was failing and I needed to replace it as soon as possible. I booked an appointment through the tesla app for Wednesday morning. And I unlocked the car doors remotely, turned off the cooling and lowered the windows (but had to raise them because of another rain shower.) The issue with the car is that when the 12V battery fails, the car is bricked. You may have seen news stories recently about the car bricking between someone putting a child into the car and going to get into the car themselves. There is no way in quickly, it involves a 9v battery (in your purse), taking off the tow hook cover (which requires a pry tool in your purse) and then pulling out some wires, attaching them to the battery which will pop the front trunk, then you can take apart the liner to expose the 12V battery and then you can get a boost from someone nearby or AAA. If my grandkid was trapped in the car, I wouldn't do that, I'd put a brick through a window (which is essentially what the firefighters did to get the grandkid out of the car in the recent news story.)
So, I spent the last hour worried about 1. being stranded at this farm, 2. the car bricking itself while we were driving back to dd's, 3. the car bricking itself as I drove on the highway home, and 4. what I now couldn't do because I didn't have a car I could use until after the repair on Wednesday.
I stayed off the highway and got home 12 minutes later than had I taken the highway. I also stuck to the right lane on every road in case the car stopped dead. The car is now parked, unlocked, in our parking spot. If it wasn't a public garage, I'd also leave the front trunk unlatched and the windows down so I can get things from the car. But I can't. We may lock the car tonight, since I really don't need someone rifling through the contents (or worse getting themselves locked inside it if the battery completely fails at that point.
I was exhausted and hungry when I got home (I had planned on stopping for ice cream with the kids on the way back from the farm so they were upset about that as was I cuz I was so hungry.) So I had a PBJ sandwich and then napped.
When I mentioned we can't take the car out, dh argued he had to go get dgs on Tuesday morning. Honestly, he knew the problem (the car had send his phone messages too) and he knew I had taken longer to get home because the car could fail at any moment and I didn't want to be on the highway and yet it was planning this 2 hour drive on Tuesday. I told him to either cancel or rent a car. His choice. Then I went for my nap. Ds will drive in with dgs Tuesday morning at 6:45.
Oh, on top of all this, today was to be my last day to myself. Not only isn't it my last day to myself, I have dd and the grands sleeping over tomorrow night, meaning they'll be here on Tuesday morning when dgs3 arrives. Along with the washer repair person.
So you won't see me for the next few days. Dgs3 goes home on Thursday night. Friday I leave first thing for the cottage with dd and her kids (assuming the car is fixed by then, but it is just a battery swap so should be.)
And I'm stressed/overstressed and in tears. I started the day in tears and I'm ending it in tears.

lucylee, we still have a problem after rains, too, and are disappointed. It's better, but not fixed completely. So frustrating, isn't it?
((Kathryn)) Rental cars are fun and interesting and a very reassuring alternative, just in case.
