Amazing August 1: PWYC

Sunday, we are going back on Sunday! Or Saturday if we can get our act together.

Tomorrow is Costco and regular grocery store. Today was Walmart (just a few grocery items but assorted other stuff) and pharmacy which is 20% off regular priced items for seniors today so I picked up milk and eggs plus I needed a second set of knee braces. I spent well over $50 which meant I got a $10 off card, good for 21 days as well. If I'd been thinking (which seems impossible to me today), I'd have split up my order between two of that store and take the $10 off on one of the knee braces on top of the 20%.

Splurged on pink lipstick as well (but that was on sale so no discount but 33% cheaper than WM.)

WM didn't have the cereal keepers that dh wanted so I picked up a more expensive one than the Rubbermaid ones but it is better in many ways than the tupperware we have now, and a lot cheaper, and possibly better than the Rubbermaid one.

Dh is cooking dinner. I delivered the items over to the other building. Two of their three elevators are out of service so it was a long wait to go up and I went down from 5 using the stairs. I'm moving distressingly slowly due to stiffness, pain, and the heat. I'm just soaked in sweat now. Our humidex is only 102 right now. So Twins has it much worse than I.

Twins' Mom I've been napping a lot, but I've also been reading A LOT! I think it's because the window AC is in that room and I have really been feeling the heat this summer. I've even been sharing freezies with dh. (Long frozen tubes of coloured and flavoured ice) This is the first summer in many, many years that I have actually enjoyed them.

We had a thunderstorm here, sort of. Three lightning strikes in our town, but not really close. I was watching the live lightning map for most of the duration of the rain storm.

The garbage cans got lots of water in them. Oddly enough the water tanks didn't seem to get any water. Dh got up on a ladder last week to see if the opening was blocked and it was fine.

This is my last day of taking prednisone and Benadryl for the rash. I do not like the side effects of those medications, especially how they mess with my emotions, cloud my mind, and zap my energy.

I was scheduled to get routine yearly blood work done tomorrow but called and postponed it for a week. I don't want the meds to affect the test results. I don't know if they would but decided to wait until after they are out of my system.

I called and cancelled my semi-yearly dental cleaning and checkup next week. I have been to periodontist 4 times in the past couple of months, so I am okay with skipping regular cleaning this time.

DD13 has finished deep cleaning every part of her bedroom! She is now enjoying the last week before school starts without a daily deep cleaning/declutter task to do.

That was a very kind start, Twins'.

Healthy Habits, Declutter, and Arts, Crafts & Needlework threads are up. After that dashed out to check my front-of-house plants and sweep the porch at the last light. It's a mixed bag out there - containers are doing pretty well, never drying out, I guess (the usual summer trouble). Some other plants seem to have reacted badly to the constant drowning, though. I need to do some staking tomorrow.

Whhhhaat a day. Extra morning housework knowing company of 2 sorts was headed here today.
DgsonC spent several hours with me, learning rotary cutting and the sewing machine. Loooooved it. Thankfully, we made it to a stopping place as HRH's family company got here.
I took C home and then back here again to make up a big salad to put with HRH's Italian meal he'd worked on while C and I were out of his way. 2 of 3 of the expected guests were able to be here. They stayed until 7.

LadyM, prednisone affects blood sugar (in the wrong direction), so you may have been wise to reschedule. HRH continues to have to use prednisone eye drops and even that much will have a slight effect.

Dishwasher got emptied and tonight's dishes went in. Dryer also got emptied and it's waiting for the washer to finish so I can toss the wet stuff into the dryer. I should empty the dish rack.

I did NOT have a nap today, so I should fall asleep earlier than I have been lately.

Kathryn I think this is the weekend for the "Rock" show in Bancroft. My first xh used to take the August long weekend off to go up to Bancroft to see his grandmother. I recall going to the "Rockhound Gemboree". It used to be quite popular.

Washer is singing her tune. Time to go flip the laundry.

I installed the bidet seat on my toilet today. After his walk with a friend, dh came and strongly encouraged me to go for a walk so I did, just to the end of the sidewalk and back, so only a few hundred steps. During the walk, I mentioned that I had installed the bidet seat onto my toilet and dh started to rebuke me since he had told me to hire someone because we aren't to turn the water off to the bathrooms (it is a turn screwhead set into a pipe in the wall between our bathrooms, accessed through the back of my under sink cabinet.)

I pointed out that

1. I had only put the seat on the toilet, I hadn't turned any water off or installed the fittings.

2. Only the toilet valve needs to be turned off, not the water to the whole bathroom. I explained how simple the task was.

Then he said if that was the case, he'd do it for me when we got home.

An hour after we got home he hadn't done anything so I turned off the toilet valve and emptied the tank. The water didn't go away completely so after 30 minutes, I mentioned it to dh. He came in and looked and determined turning the valve doesn't completely turn off the water but proceeded to do the installation with some water coming through.

It is all done now and no water has appeared yet so I may now have a bidet. More in Members Only.

I guess I’m amazed that it IS August, and I have managed to live on my own, alone, for 16 weeks. I’m sure some of you have experienced this with losses of various kinds — in some ways it feels like yesterday and in some ways it feels like it must have been a hundred years.
Of course, it’s not like I’ve been in solitude for 16 weeks. I am very thankful for ds, ddil, dgrands, and my dmom.

But today has been okay and I so much appreciate your prayers and support.
I took the truck and had the man check the oil.
Then I went to Wmart and got several things, including glue stick and binder for the memory book I’m compiling with the Facebook posts for dh. And some flowers for his grave.
Ds called, met me at the grave, put those flowers down. I’m sure they’ll be totally wilted by morning, but I had to do something for today.
Back to Wmart — I had done self-check and rang up the $25 bottle of Aleve TWICE! They gave me a gift card for that money.
Went to post office, which I had forgotten earlier. Paid phone bill.
Ds wanted me to go eat with them. I did. Let him pay.
Dgs came home with me (Ds thought I might need some company tonight.)
So. I’ve shed some tears, but I’m okay.
