Satisfying Saturday PWYC

Hoping for a satisfying Saturday all around, in particular for LadyM, Kathryn, and Harriet, who had unsettling days/overnights. And for all of us who crave something normal and solid!

I slept over 9 hours last night and feel a lot better. I didn't even go to the bathroom through the night although I did wake up when some animal had a crying spell. Dh got up to the bathroom at that point so I was able to confirm I hadn't dreamt the sound. He said he woke up, couldn't remember which place we were at nor identify which child was crying but decided it must be dgd since it didn't sound like dgs! Then he realized we are at the cottage, without children in tow.

He went for a shortened walk and then paddle this morning. So he's feeling stronger.

I have just finished my tea and chocolate. My digestive system seems to be back to normal as well, another bonus after having to take imodium earlier this week. Perhaps my appetite will return as well today although I'll still eat carefully.

DC is still running a fever and they are still awaiting cultures (they take up to five days for full results but after 48 hours the results are 90% accurate so they are waiting for the results from the test the small-town hospital ran on Thursday night.) I just realized we are only 36 hours into this emergency so we really will have to wait until tonight's rounds to find out more. The feeling is that she is no longer critical so can be moved to a regular medical bed while she gets better and/or they figure out what is wrong.

Ds and I went over the calendar. He starts a new position on Monday at 7 a.m. at the small town hospital. He'll try and get dgs' daycare slot changed to 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from 1:30 - 10:30 p.m. (this is a day care for children of hospital shift workers so is doable) and drive into the city, drop him off, and drive back to his town for his 12 hour shift. Dh and I will come home 2 days early from the cottage and pick up dgs from daycare at 4:30, and then keep him with us for as long as necessary (but taking him to daycare each day so he stays in the routine of going there.) Thankfully, the daycare is just 10 minutes away from us.

If the day care slot can't be changed, we'll go home tomorrow afternoon and picking up dgs along the way.

We'll return him to his mother when DC is home from the hospital and settled, and her mom has had a chance to catch up on sleep. Whatever day that is remains to be seen. This upcoming week will be hectic for us since dh is leaving for a month in Africa on Sunday and the airline is going to strike (so I may have to drive him to Toronto to get on his Air Ethiopia flght.)

So I will focus on Breathing and relaxing today.

I sent a chunk of money to ddil. Money won't solve her current situation but it will help make it slightly easier. I suggested she book into the Rotel (a motel next to the hospital for out of town people needing to be at the hospital) and spend some of it on in/out parking passes for ds and her ex husband. And Uber eats for some healthier food.

Now it is time for me to get dressed and go for a 5 - 10 minute walk to get my head cleared.

The day dawned warm but misty and the mist lifted while I was on the phone with ds. It is now cloudy but there's no rain in the forecast so I'm hoping for several short walks today to get my body working again.

I found the receipt so we can return the cracked bathtub. ****Big Sigh of Relief***

Getting a new bathtub that is ready for installation is my priority today. Anything else accomplished is going to be considered gravy.

The truck up the st. woke me at 4:00 today. sigh...
I needed to change out of bed clothes damp from hot flash or bs low #85 might have been both.
Got qt & journaling done had food & coffee.
Started in on the kitchen did up dishes in the sink and spiffed the counters some.
Started soup for lunch.

Got some stuff I needed out of the basement freezer.
Mixed up zuch. bread not ch. from a yellow cake mix it's in the oven now.
More dishes and more counter spiffing.
Changed clothes again.
Had protein.
It's cloudy out and rather gloomy.

Feeling not as chipper today.
Walk X
Sheets are changed.
Bagged up zucch. bread for later.

Put in dryer next.

I now have TWO dripping leaks in the study. Other side of dormer has started.

QUESTION — After opening, how long can I safely eat sandwich meat? Turkey slices, Hickory Farms, I think. I can’t smell anything but I think it’s been in the fridge too long.

Lucylee - It seems the sandwich meat that we get these days have so many preservatives that they rarely go bad. They usually have a best-by date. I can tell by touching (slimy feeling) rather than the smell. I tend to go by the "If in doubt, throw it out" rule.

Bathtub saga continues. We returned that cracked bathtub and got another one. Before we left the store I wanted to open the shipping container to make sure the new bathtub was good. I am so glad I insisted on doing that. The 2nd new bathtub was also faulty with a corner of the tub missing! I spied another bathtub stacked on top waaaay up near the roof and its container looked good. I found an employee that could operate the Ballymore lift and he was able to go up to the roof level to bring the 3rd new bathtub down the ground so we could open the container and inspect that bathtub. FINALLY. We have a bathtub without flaws in an undamaged container.

Looking online this is Lowes bestselling bathtub. However, the company that makes the bathtub needs to make some serious changes to the way they pack and ship them. How can they stay in business if 75% of the bathtubs don't survive the shipping process? According to the Lowe employee the bathtubs are regularly dropped and not treated gently during storage & display in the store.

My inner tigger had to say hellooooo!

dd younger and I went to the farmers market hoping to find poblano's to have enough for canning. I have given a lot of peppers away rather than save them for ourselves. I did get peaches and plums. I was spoiled by dd Youngers purchase of scones! so good!

we have a birthday party to go to in about an hour. I stopped by mom's this morning and I gave her meds. I couldn't believe when I saw her in a heavy turtle neck - it made me feel hot just looking at her! I will see her tonight when I bring her meds this evening.

Hi, everyone.

I made a big lunch for us of potatoes, corn on the cob, beans and homemade guacamole. Tobias enjoyed his portion of corn, for which he always begs.

Dd44 gave us DangerBoy's new address at Univ. and I've spent some time thinking of what we might send him.

Focus Cleaning has been office/other room this week and it's ongoing, interrupted when HRH asked what was for lunch, lol.

We think we like the new curtains. I went outside and stared at them from the driveway and cars, too. Although it's not my favorite look for curtains from outside, it does look very neat and sort of matches the door nearby. I don't know if I'll switch in spring or not. There's nothing exactly wrong with them for warm weather. Maybe it's just because I myself know the physical weight of these that they seem too "warm".

Very happy that LadyM is relieved about bathtub replacement now.

Thinking of Kathryn's family at a tense time. Thankful for pros.

Twins', how did your inventory go? Did you have gaps that simply must be filled?

Lucy L. back in the day when LH was having lunch meat sans. 10 days would be all I would trust it.
Then we learned to freeze it in two packs one for the next week.
Did some sans. ahead too. Just a thought.

I have napped around lunch time not sure if it was before my soup or not.
ddoggo napped too.
I have the last load in the dryer.
Got sheets put away.
Picked up after the yard.

Put out some seeds in the area I want more flowers.
Swiffered in the bathroom.
Talked briefly with dson.
Froze up the zuch. bread after I had the ends to taste test one was smaller and cut it in chunk about the size of a muffin
I will put in the basement freezer for later on. It's nice to find as a surprise in a few weeks.
Got the laundry put away.

I use to send dgs in collage cash to save on shipping and let him pick what he needed
he did request laundry soap from his mom for cmas one year.

Thanks for the input on the sandwich meat. I think I'm going to start writing the date I open it on the package. I was thinking a week, ten days at most, would be the limit. And I thought "best by" date only counted if it was unsealed. DGrands are no help -- neither of them think turkey ever smells good, LOL, so they would always be saying "yuck."

Y'all we have had sooo much rain. I am fine because my house is on a slight hill, but just past my house, there's a little creek and it is over the road down there, and there are pictures all over FB of roads closed and people who have water standing inside their houses.
Of course, my roof is NOT okay... I just cannot imagine coming up with the money to re-roof this house, and for some reason, homeowners insurance won't cover it. I don't know why exactly, and now that it has developed this new leak, I may ask them to send someone out again just to be sure, but there is some sort of clause in all the small print that says they won't pay for this. They can plainly see that it didn't start yesterday... but gosh, it's will be expensive to re-roof it. And my dmom says I probably should just have the dormers removed and start over.
There is about two inches of water in the bucket, just from this storm, and a little bit more under the second leak.

DGS' game Monday night has been moved from home to away -- the other school has an astroturf field. That's why our high school team is playing today -- another school in that county has an astroturf field. Some of these high schools we play have athletic facilities that look like small universities.

I had a little nap, too, Nancy. DGD had me up at 9:30, and after we went to McD's and I added a little bit of snacks to my Egg McM... I just had to close my eyes for a bit.

Hope you're having a calm, "normal" day, Twins!!! Has the rain gotten to you yet? I can hear it on the roof right now. It will stop for a while... then it will pour like it's coming out of buckets.
