Thrift and Thimbles Thursday

Post by Harriet »

The theme of "Resisting Waste Creatively" is the 2024 one for National Sewing Month, September. That's a concept that's definitely right up the homemaker's alley. BookSaver often reminded us of National Sewing Month.

The hope is that emphasizing this 2024 theme will highlight, "reusing, upcycling, mending", and how these benefit households as well as the world.

How is thrift a part of your household these days?

Elizabeth, if you check in to read today, Kathryn's post to you is in yesterday's second PWYC page.

Good Morning!

Harriet - thank you for the start and reminder to wisely and creatively use our resources.

My morning has been busy and productive. When I returned home from delivering DD13 to school the contractors pulled into the driveway behind me. DS16 was also in our driveway with all the doors open while cleaning a huge feed truck.
There was a flutter of activity with 4 fella working and then about 30 minutes later everyone left.

I found out why the bathtub project was put on hold yesterday. DH told me they had to reroute a pipe. That is not even close....which raises another red flag in DH mental abilities. The delay is because the wood floor under the bathtub and the walls surrounding it are solid, but they are not perfectly level and plumb. The contractor is making adjustments to the floor and wall before he proceeds with tub/shower installation. After he makes an adjustment, he needs to let the material set and then he will return and continue the project. Construction projects in a 60 year old home always seem to include doing something extra.

DH has a doctor appointment this morning for a test of his mental abilities. I am equally dreading and looking forward to the outcome of these tests.

good morning!
a wonderful day to you!!!

Thank you d Harriet!!! I hope you have a lovely day!!!

actually I was going to bring my sewing machine in for work - being sewing month is a perfect time for getting ready for the rest of the year!!!

I wish thrift has been part of my year - but it can be part of the fall. My ADHD and my wanting to do everything has been playing havoc on my thrift and living in simplicity - I have done a built up instead of one in and one out. I can't keep up. Time to simplify again now that summer is coming to an end.

hello d lady! so happy you have had a good and productive morning! It's so cool that your ds loves to work and that his friends are the same!
I am so sorry you dh is going through a spell with his mental abilities. It's really hard when that happens. Dh gets part of things people tell him but when I get the information from him it's close to a bit but off quite a bit. I hope your dh is just a simple medical issue that can be taken care of.

have a lovely day everyone.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

We are having a very hard time with dh pouting and being angry over stuff. Some I can fix because I have taken over the garage on my side but the other stuff I have had to tell him no.

He has gotten used to quiet - right now 3 large dogs are full of joy and chaos - but just dogs moving around. dh feels his dogs shouldn't play like that - he wants the simple - he walks in the garden and they follow. Problem is that he thinks that's enough. I work and play with the dogs 4 times a day to make them calm to go out with him. I also think he is jealous that the dogs want to be with dd younger as she plays and trains them. He is now over feeding them and it's a problem. dd was training them with their meals and he said no.

dd and I went to pick up wood for a project for her and dh said to me - she didn't have "permission from me to get it"! - Oh that's a no no. He didn't get it. I won't go there either. I still think there is something underneath bothering him about the garage - which I should and could fix. The fact that he thinks that's okay for him to say and expect and act that way can't happen. This is really worrisome for me.

He is standing his ground on all of this is concerning. I can change some things - but both dd's were saying that I have made it too easy on him to go down this route. dd older also said to dd younger that all the noise and things is hard for dad - which she should have kept to herself.
Dh is seeing that he is right about all of it and usually in can compromise. no compromise and lots of passive aggressive.

I could sell the house but I don't see him still finding happiness. (unless we circle the world around him)

Thinking out loud.

Morning girls…

LadyM…hope you get answers about your husband. I understand how you feel.

Today is laundry day which was started later than usual. I have cleaned the kitchen, showered and will vacuum my lania so I can put it back together. The screens when down defuse the sun coming into my home which helps with the inside temps, but it also means my house is t as bright. Need to find an in-between solution.

I haven’t been sleeping well and yesterday I ended up snoozing on my couch during the afternoon. Thankfully it didn’t effect my sleep last night, which was finally much better.

I'm done with a.m. routine by 11 a.m., including a cooked breakfast and walking a mile. Need to get earlier start of course. Dh comes in about 8:15 to s2s after his 7 a.m. workout on TU-TH mornings and was talkative this morning. I shouldn't have been short with him because he's been out the last two nights and we need to catch up. But I had gotten dressed to take dog for walk and she was standing by and I was trying to get going. And believe it or not, he wanted to invite a couple over for a bourbon tasting tonight. (I said no.)

Geez. Am I ever slow. I've been trying to replace one of the "edge sweeping brushes" on my roomba, and it turns out that there's not one on that side. Called for support. Do I feel slow today or what? Egg on my face when he said there's only one.

On the bright side, that is resolved, lol. (It's cleaning again, but will have to pause to recharge the battery. On the downside, since yesterday all that it's cleaned is the bedroom because I had to restart the job.)

I'm going to work on front porch clean up and assume it won't go too far down before we have a houseful on 3 October.

picked up mom - she only drank a half a cup of water yesterday by the bottles on the counter. She does that when no one lives with her. She was dizzy this morning and had a hard time getting out of bed bc of dizziness. She is fine now. I have her eating breakfast and she had her meds. I also gave her a bottle of water but she just took a sip.

She was definitely off this morning - pressing things - drying to figure out her door opener - so today she will be here.
I can't leave her alone all day - not good for her brain - I saw her twice - once for breakfast, once for meds but made sure she had breakfast lunch and dinner which she did eat.

time to put my joy to work with dh/mom

1. eat breakfast, take meds.
2. move hose
3. kitchen with mom

At end of my rope so had to cancel on dd. Dsil is receiving a reward at work and there was a reception and then award ceremony but I just can't manage the energy required to feed and put her kids to bed.

Dh is truly sick and had to sleep all morning between toilet runs. Dgs was up 4 times through the night and was to daycare really late because I didn't have the fight in me to drag him through the steps to get off. His hat is lost so I sent him in my backup hat for him. Dd said she has his other backup hat. When I left him he was screaming "My Nana!" I've apparently moved up on the important adult list, up until now Mommy was the only one who got that treatment.

Dh is still trying to pack so now he's going through the list and getting me to find the things for him so he can check them off. My imperfect clothes line needed a hook on the end (the loop I had tied didn't meet with his approval) so I went through my stuff and found a clip that was cut off a keychain toy that we are using only as the toy and repaired it that way. Still have to get to the bank for dh today as I have dgs all day tomorrow so can't go then.

I have important business work and bills to pay as well.

Plus the Stuff Swap which is starting in 2 hours and I need to set up for that.
