Well, it is so good to see you, Elizabeth!!! Welcome back!!!
Harriet, that is sad that the quilt was stolen, but as you said, at least dsil enjoyed it and used it. I can imagine how bad your dd feels about it, but certainly nothing she could have done to prevent it... as you said, it could have been stolen at any time, any place, and it was so good that it was being used by his brother.
Chambray, light-weight denim... I have been on a quest that would rival Indiana Jones for an elusive light-weight denim.
Many, many years ago, I had a pair of jeans that were the PERFECT weight. The were Liz Claiborne, more trouser-cut than Western-cut, and they were sooo light weight and sooo comfortable. I wore them to college ballgames all the time because it is HOT in South Alabama until football season is almost over.
Finally, they developed a hole in the knee before this was stylish, and wore out in other spots, and of course, I outgrew them...
and nowhere, ever, have I been able to find another pair like them.
Well, I have roughed-out my planner for the coming week, and y'all, I have a new zest for life, thanks to your tips and patience with me!
I took a sheet of paper and wrote down all those "OMM" projects, thinking, I will do like y'all said -- pick ONE thing that is important and DO it this week, and THEN move on to another... without keeping that whole list in front of me, overwhelming and depressing me every day.
Then I realized, MOST of the list could be taken care of if I would only use my 3x5s and follow daily
routines... themes, as Nancy said.
The specifics of a CARD would be more useful to me, I think, than this open-ended list. So, I am going to add in cards for the things that can be done that way, and quit writing these things down as just "DO THIS WEEK." I'm going to give them a specific day.
Of course, I know things will happen. I came in with a few hours between parade and ballgame Friday, fully intending to vacuum, but dcousin stopped to visit. Well, people are more important than projects. Maybe she needed a listening ear; maybe I needed to know I was on her mind. If it doesn't get done by Thursday "Catch-up Day," it can just go back into the next week.
My "zone" for this coming week is going to be the memory book, and I'm going to put a card in the file for Projects, 15 Minutes. Of course, I hope to work on it longer than that, but that is * hopefully * the nudge I need to get started. Remember -- our very wise dDee said, "Begun is half done," right?
Generally, I plan to give photos a week out of each month, and yard work a week, and try to quit letting this list stare at me and make me feel bad about myself every day.
Y'all just don't know how much I appreciate you all.
I have to share one more thing. I can laugh -- yes, I know I am grieving, and maybe I need to give myself more time to deal with my thoughts, but I don't THINK I am just pushing them aside, still in denial of dh's death... but at any rate, when ds and I are together, we can find some sort of humor in just about any situation. Sometimes ds's life becomes a good basis for a Seinfeld episode. Musicians are a unique breed to begin with, you know. Today's funeral was no exception. There were annoying things and things we found humorous and something was said afterwards as we were going to eat, and I laughed so hard I was crying, couldn't talk, could barely breathe. DDIL was laughing about as much, and I thought, "I have not laughed like this except one other time (also with ds) since before dh died."
I hope it is not disrespectful to dh (or to our dfriend whose funeral we attended) to have these times. Sometimes I think, I'm not crying enough, you know? Nancy, Harriet? But sometimes I think yes, this is just what I need. Laughter IS the best medicine, they say. And dh certainly loved to see me when I got so tickled about something that I would laugh like that. So maybe he was watching and enjoyed our little episode along with us. (He would definitely have been laughing if he had been there!)
