Thinking Thankfully on Thursday

Post by Harriet »

How have you thought out your week and has it been what you hoped, as we reach Thursday, or do you need to redeem some of the plans?

What puzzles are you sorting out this week?
Facing some that are completely new, or trying new solutions to some that seem to be repetitive?

"Listening out" for a check-in from Ramblin' or from other folks we know.

Happy birthday to helia's DD.

I'm impressed you remember it is my dd's birthday today, Harriet! Indeed, my eldest daughter is 29 today. Ds is 30. Dd26 is still. . . the baby at 26. Ha! When did they get to be so old? That means I've gotten older too.

I'm thinking of RRose as well. I haven't yet heard how our housemate's parents' home in Sarasota fared.

I've just said good bye to our houseguests - just in time to prep today for dinner guests tonight. I like being able to host, but I'm looking forward to a quiet house this weekend.

My puzzle today is time tetris. I have a fairly open day until 4:30 when I teach online (not my fav but we work with a company in Utah with Spanish speaking employees who need to improve their English - and I agreed to take a class) and then host dinner tonight from 6:30 - ? Other things I'd like to fit into this day in the next 7 hours before I need to teach: my morning routine, WF run for the ingredients for the main (dh told me his recipe yesterday), procure a bday treat for dd29 and drop it off at her house, go for a jog, call my mom's bank - and actually talk to a live person, spiff the house for dinner guests tonight, prep to teach, change the bedsheets, and ideally start prep for my writing class tomorrow morning.

Doing all this without procrastinating would be wonderful - but not likely for me. Ha ha!

Don't give me too much credit, helia! It was DeeClutter who once noticed/remembered, and listed your oldest daughter's birthday in the Special Dates thread in MO forum, up "above" PWYC forum in our board index.

I suppose I should say, as Dee used to do every once in a while, that if anyone has a date they would like us to list, I would do that.

Ages of children - how impossible it all seems, doesn't it? helia, your children are supposed to be such very young adults.

Feeling better on sleep schedule:
At 5 something a.m., I awakened after trying for a few more hours sleep. I decided it was morning no matter how disrupted the previous night and day had been and got up. I S2Sed, did all the routines, exercised. Waited to eat, though. Have just finished brunch of smoothie of greens and fruits.

lucylee, I'm glad you have found a comedy outlet in television. I think that is one consistently positive use of a tv screen, and if Family Feud is a foolproof laugh-maker for you, that's great. HRH tends to watch 1960s comedies, even if he can recite them himself. Comedy plus a kind of "comfort food" tv. He, of course, has tinnitus, and finds those very well-known comedies allow him to avoid focusing while gaining the benefit of chatty, varied noise.

Some continued Desk Day is up next - need to talk to live person!
helia, I hope you really do get to talk to a live person at bank, too.

It's beautiful weather here today. Dog already walked a quick loop with dfriendM. I only have my workout at two, and then dinner out at 5:30ish. Dh is coming home to get me, I think. He also asked if I could pick up dry cleaning for him so I'll do so. Not going in that direction today, but I will.

I just updated my spreadsheet with my weight and I'm within 1/2 lb of where I was on 1 January. My weight has been dropping gradually the last two months. I'm working out again regularly at least.

I woke up tired this morning.

I saw Facebook that RR had marked herself safe. Also Dee's dd, but they will need a new roof apparently.

helia, I keep meaning to tell you how happy I am to see you posting again! And about time tetris: I'm retired now, and two events out of the house in a day seem like way too much. And I'd die right now with so much entertaining. My struggles there are well-documented here.

Thanks for getting us started today Harriet!

Morning Hope all are well.
I was up at 5:00 on track with qt & journaling routine.
I've made myself go to the basement for some zone work swept in the laundry area,
and sewing zone, freezer furnace room / same room yea for progress on that! listened to a pod cast segment while I did that. [It helped.]
Brought up some old towels to de-clutter.
Feels great to start off the day with some progress yea!

Next up
Rx took those.
bfast x
Hem a fall wall hanging... later
Organize some items to work on in sewing zone. not today.

Later in the week looking forward to fabric stuff.
Getting the basement zone work done in the rec room.
& crafting weaving area.

Good morning!

It is the last school day before fall break starts. Only 6 more hours and it is on! Excitement is building.... Meanwhile normal day is happening. DD13 to public school. DS16 homeschool and work. Today is school pictures so I got that filled out and money sent with DD13. I need to schedule a private photo shoot for DS16 school pictures.

Harriet - I didn't know a radio will keep raccoons away. That would be easier than the suggestions that I found when I did a google search. Thank you for sharing your solution.

LadyM I started to post that yesterday. I have a friend/acquaintance who is a member of our congregation and is a wildlife rehabber. People will call her asking her to remove racoons in the attic and she suggests making it uncomfortable for them with noise. Some disgusting talk radio might do the trick!

I went upstairs and stamped a little but not feeling inspired. I came back down and promised myself I'd lie down for a few minutes before workout, and trainer had texted me that he's not well. Tummy problems for him so not COVID at least. So workout is cancelled today. I was thinking of that myself but knowing I shouldn't. My foot is still sore, and now hamstring in same leg. And as I said I'm just tired today.

So I am going to lie down and set an alarm.

I ordered a radio for outside. We use digital devices for radio so I didn't have on hand. I made sure to get a waterproof one even though it will be on back porch under the roof.

DGS18 has corrected the dates that he will be visiting us. Instead of coming tomorrow he is coming next Friday and will stay 4 days. I welcome his visit anytime but acknowledge the relief to not have extras here while on pain meds and surgery recovery. The 4 room switch we did last month with DS16 moving to mini apartment means that his old bedroom is available for guests. DGS16 thinks DGS18 will want to sleep on couch in his apartment. I will leave it up to DGS18 if he wants his own space (bedroom and bathroom) or share with DGS16.

I have several basic foods being cooked to restock the ready-to-eat stash. Beef short ribs, regular potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, peppers are in the instant pot. On the stove top is a pan of apple & raisins simmering. The smells coming from the kitchen are mmmmhhhhh good!

Hi.

This weekend (next Monday) is Thanksgiving here in Canada. I went to Walmart this morning just to get regular stuff. The parking lot was busy. There were very few buggies/carts. The aisles were full of people looking around like they had no idea what a grocery store looked like. I got what we needed and I was thankful that dh wasn't with me, as he slows me down quite a bit.

I still need to go to Costco and get a pumpkin pie. Dd is coming on Sunday on her way to her partner's parent's place. We might have lunch somewhere, but I doubt it. Dh and I have not invited them for anything over the span of the weekend. Dd and her partner are coming to bring some stuff they need stored and picking up a pile of empty rubbermaid bins that she forgot she had here.
