Good Morning!

DGS18 left to go home late last night. We are back to only 2 teenagers in the house. Although we frequently have multiple teens in the house it was a dissimilar experience having DGS18 staying here for 3 days. I treasure the moments with DGS18. I am glad to be in Nana mode with him instead of parental role. DS51 and DDIL have their hands full with him.....in a good way but nerves of steel are needed.

DSis asked me to have lunch with her today in celebration of my birthday. So that will happen because I think it is important to do my part to keep our relationship. I will be on my best behavior during lunch and watch my words carefully, so I don't tick her off. Sibling relationships can be complex.

Two things today -
** DH to family doctor for test result. These brain tests will indicate dementia or Alzheimer's
** Lunch with DSis

DH test results were okay. DH scored 89. A score of 80 or below would indicate probability of dementia/Alzheimer.

Lunch with DSis was excellent. We talked nonstop. After lunch she took me on a tour of the house she will be moving to. Her oldest son bought it for her.

While there DS16 called and told me about ripping the back of his hand open on a barbwire fence. He didn't want to go to walkin clinic, so I told him to rub some dirt on it.

I am overstimulated with all the company, party and PEOPLE. I am craving some quiet time so I can decompress.

Can is back from the curb so I"ll be going out to add some branches for next week in a bit.
Filled is half way with stuff for next week from piles of branches in the back yard. Made some progress.

Called my dsis.
Thawed out 4 of the biscuits I made & froze Sat. they are in a sm. baking dish in the oven now.

Two for one task soaked my thumb & did dishes put Epsom salts in the dish water.
Thumb feels better and dishes are clean win win!

Got two loads de watered from fains
One in green wheel burrow moved to rusty one with a hold but no water stays in it!
2nd in red wagon.

Forgot to mention earlier today while on the phone I unloaded the closet on the floor items of the butterfly room.
Season swap out of some items.
Had dinner.
Got the one wagon emptied out and rinsed.
Put those branches for fire pit Fri in the future in the plant cage under the roof.
Emptied a trash can of pocky weeds and moved it.
Drained front and back hoses they are unhooked not rolled up yet but might get cold over nite.
I can re attach them if I need to.

Dove, the fabric purchase and project sound like fun!

A day of frustratingly making no progress. The "steps back" have been taking a toll on the "steps forward". Spent a long time on an email regarding my dear Aunt's bequests. Suspicion of some paperwork not being filed that I had been told by lawyer would be filed. At first, I thought this complaint was making a mountain out of a molehill, but lawyer says "oops" and tells me that some things must be sent to lawyer's office now. From 3 people. So, emailing, fretting over explaining correctly. Making sure to document my own phone calls and emails back when I had been informed this was done (grateful that our village site confirmed to me that I was right about what days I was complaining about DPCs then - able to state it exactly). Good grief.

Ds called and I enjoyed chatting with him again. I promised him I'd send a reply to the email everyone else has already replied to so positively. Then he will email all that the plan is set. I admitted to him that I could have already done it if I wasn't being a perfectionist, wanting to email some ideal animated gif and say how pleased HRH and I are, It's done now and the hamster-in-a-stocking plain photo is fine. I'm so prone to allowing the perfect to become the enemy of the good.

HRH sent an email just to me (telling me he had sent to everyone, the rascal), saying, "is this gift for the cat?" Oh, I believed him for a minute and was ready to lecture.

Ds' family attended the wedding of a long-time family friend Saturday, and I was so grateful. I just didn't feel up to the long drive, long day. Dd44 sent a nice gift, so I am content. HRH says he's going to hand friend some money when he sees him, and that's a sensible idea from us that I do not need to perfect. It's fine. Maybe I'll get a nice envelope ... .. Maybe I'll actually send through the mail ... .. It's fine.

I have the "Halloween Quilt" out and measured and it is too wide to hang on the rod the kids fixed for me in the den. Sigh. Do I feel like customizing the sleeve for that? I dunno. Very limited appreciation is expected anyway, I'm afraid. If I just drape the quilt, folded, in the center as wide as I can, it might look okay, but that shows a lot of rod and poles, sort of distracting. Still no sign of the autumn wallhanging that would be so ideal for the next month and beyond. It will be found as soon as I want to decorate for Christmas, I suppose.

does it hurt a lot? Tetanus shot up to date,

Yes, to having up-to-date tetanus shot. His hand did hurt but then that hurt was pushed aside for the hurt he got when he grabbed hold of a 4000 volt electric fence. He didn't know he was able to jump that high. He thought insulated pliers would keep him from being shocked. I suspect he won't make that mistake again.

I have been thinking about and gathering ingredients needed for the chili contest tomorrow night. About an hour ago I realized that I totally forgot about food for tonight. oops. I grabbed a couple jars of alfredo sauce, pulled a bag of shrimp out of the freezer and let it thaw while I made 4x ramen noodles. I kept the ingredients separate so everyone could add what combination they wanted in their bowl.

Oh, dear, ((that poor boy)). gasp.

Chili contests - my late dh once lost a church chili contest because he included beans. The judges' concept was a no-beans chili, which was just foreign to his raisin', lol. His mother was bewildered when she heard. "What do they mean?" she asked. lol!

I have measured and photographed the quilt. (photos help "see" how quilts will look at a distance, so may help decide which way to drape it) Sent the children a photo of just dfirstmil's embroidered documentation/history on the back with a small amount of the quilt top itself visible. Instant ping back on my phone, to which I thought to myself, "that will be dd44". She replied, "It's awesome and I love it." Defending it when I had not commented, lol. This is not a very lovable quilt - strips of 1930s (but drab - maybe 1920s and already old when pieced?) scraps making awkward X-es, sashed with orange for no apparent reason. The children named it "Halloween" and used to come into the LR shielding their eyes when I hung it at the other house, lol.

Kathryn, as I ponder old and memorable items, I certainly feel for you about your clocks.

Tuesday trash day and mud room cleaning are both finished.

Got one of those maid service flyers in the mail today. This co is called "cleaning authority", which gives them an air of efficiency. I have no idea. But it is something to think about - right now I'm in a mood to keep the flyer and think.

Well, I just didn't get going.

It is amazing how often I look at the wall where the clock is, or miss its chiming. This is significantly affecting my ability to track time and the day getting away from me.

At 4, I looked over my goals for the day and got up and told dh we should walk to the clock store. It took 30 minutes to almost be out the door and I thought to check the store's hours and there was no way we'd get to the store in time. So that errand was put off. We did fetch the cuckoo clock from the storage locker, though, so maybe we'll walk to the store tomorrow.


The office was closed before we got downstairs at 4:40 so the reprogramming of my fob didn't happen either.

We walked to the pizza place for dinner, running into a neighbour along the way and having a long chat. She recommended a juice shop for ice cream so we went after dinner. It was gilato and not worth the $7 each for the small scoop and a half. Oh well.

Tomorrow morning I have an errand first thing and then the window opening restrictors get put in at 10 so I have some tidying to do to clear away paths to every window.

My windows have been open fully since Thursday night. This morning, the bedroom was finally down to 61 but the kitchen was still 72 despite 2 open windows and an open patio door and the temperature last night going down to 50. The difference was a breeze pushed the cold air into the bedroom. The kitchen is 74 now and the bedroom is 73 (no breeze right now). Somehow I can't see how I'll cope once I'm limited to opening the window just 4". There are usually at least 2 weeks a year like this when the heat is on and it is also hot outside in the daytime. Then another 4 where we don't have heat or a/c but our apartments can get really hot because the windows don't protect from the sun's UV rays. At least my apartment can get a cross breeze, there are people on the west side of my building with no way of generating a cross breeze and no patio door to open. It was over 80 in one of those when the tenant went to bed last night. This is a serious health problem for our seniors, the recommended maximum heat for seniors is 78.

In the afternoon is exercise class and then we have to move resident association tables from the social room cupboard to the lobby of another building. Not sure when I'll get to walk to the clock store.

You know something I hate? (Is this how the monologue started with the character on Johnny Carson's skits, the guy who dressed kinda like Elmer Fudd and always was on a rant about something?)
Well, something I hate is when I suddenly remember at 10:00 pm that the sheets that go on my bed are still in the dryer.
AND, since it is more important to prepare for my GriefShare class tomorrow morning, and the Bible study class tomorrow night, I ignore that aggravation until midnight... and the sheets are still in the dryer.
So -- now I have prepared for both lessons, and I will now put the sheets on the bed, remembering that it only takes about 10 minutes.

(((Kathryn))) -- I am sorry about all the clock trouble. I know how aggravating that can be.
DH was very mindful of clocks and time in general. One example -- our church group sponsors people on an Emmaus Walk periodically. This is an non-denominational spiritual weekend hosted at a United Methodist camp. I, of course, have never been because, you know, travel. Someone from the church is supposed to take you and come back and get you. DH, OTOH, resisted going because it was said that you weren't supposed to wear a watch during your time there, and dh said he'd go crazy if he didn't have his watch on and know what time it was! (I know both those anxieties are probably good indications that we both truly needed to participate in such a faith-building, spiritual retreat, but we never did.)

We also have a clock that is supposed to chime, but it has been repaired once and we were told the chime was gone.
HOWEVER -- it HAS CHIMED, SINCE THEN -- at random times, such as immediately following dmil's funeral... the day ddil graduated from nursing school... some other significant times like that. I'm not saying I really believe something spooky is going on, but we sure had some strange feelings when these events happened. It has NOT chimed since dh's death, which kinda makes me sad.

I would love to sleep with the windows open, but I have watched too many episodes of Law & Order SVU...

Oh my goodness -- a 400 volt electric fence??? (((LadyM and ds)))!!! Oh my goodness.
Also -- I'm so glad LordM's test results were not in the "danger zone"!

Harriet, I must agree with your late dh -- chili without beans would definitely be foreign to my raisin'! The only time chili without beans is acceptable is on chili dogs, according to ds and dh, who loved the ones at the Varsity in Atlanta, btw, but when we brought home cans of chili from there to surprise ds, it was a disappointment, because it was just not the same without the hot dog prepared in Atlanta, I guess. I do not eat chili dogs, I only save the wrappers. Or at least I saved one. (See last night's post.)
BTW, ddil did not win the chili cook-off, but when she went to pick up her crockpot, all her chili was gone. Some people had chili remaining in their pots, so she felt good that people apparently enjoyed hers, even if the three judges didn't pick it. Her chili has mushrooms and brown sugar in it, among a bunch of other stuff (including beans!) and it is a little different than most. DS, who was one of the judges, said it was spicier/hotter than most of the entries. (There were about a dozen different ones.)

Ooohhh -- I do not envy you the task that involved the lawyer and relations! That is never a fun happening.

I definitely know what you mean about letting the perfect become the enemy of the good. I guess that is a common thread among a lot of us SHE sisters.

Our Thanksgiving plan will not be final until dbro lets us know what HIS plans are. If he and dsisil are coming, I will host, but ddil's parents & brother will provide the turkey and several sides. I will do chicken and dressing, and possibly another side or more, if they wish. If dbro is not coming, we will eat at ddil's parents' house.

Nancy and blessed, looks like y'all had busy days -- as usual for you two! WTG!

Twins, I think I'd be cancelling the workout too. And I'm right there with you and Kathryn... WHY is it so hard to have two productive days in a row?
I don't think I've ever been able to give myself a gold star two days in a row. (I don't really give myself stars, but I should probably try that.)

So now it's 12:30... sheets are STILL in the dryer... and I have to get up at 8:00 for GriefShare meeting. Sigh.

d lady - I will say it too. OUCH! No he won't do that again with the electricity! Not a fun lesson. I hope his hand is feeling better. I had heard that soil stops bleeding if out in the field or woods.
