Re: Wow! It's Wednesday with three weeks until Christmas!!
Hello to all, and
hello, helia. I feel relief each time I see a handle/avatar of someone coming in, so grateful everyone is getting back to normal paths to the village.
our travelers -
Ramblin', have you had any more trouble posting or are things changing back to normal? Twins' Mom was rather certain she would have no trouble once she got home to familiar devices, etc. (She is back late today I think.) I am sorry I can't quite remember Ramblin's travel schedule, but the enjoyment of familiar places sounded so comforting and fun.
(((blessed and her dmother))) were at the hospital along with blessed's dds last evening. All best wishes to their household. blessed, I doubt there is blame on you for trying to give your dmother the best possible help with her medicines, by way of good organization. You are thinking, thinking - trying so hard to make her life easier.
editing - well, it takes me so long to get this posted, blessed has already checked in.
Today is a day for being proactive in getting house/clothing/spaces ready for upcoming changes, however temporary or see-sawing. I will need to simplify taking care of things here, so that others can feel confident when needed. Dd26 is our first extra help here, 12th, possibly through weekend. Then dd44 returns home from a trip and will be the next extra help.
So, I have extra loads of laundry in today, am organizing clothes closets.
Would sort of like to shower but it is so cold today the floors are cold, etc. I think the walls are cold. So I'm resisting.
Mystery, your post made me cold!
Yet, HRH wants to go out tomorrow when we have a brief warm spell, shopping for a recliner I don't even know if I want, for one thing. He's worried about the truck needing inspection, too.
I have some planner chat to get into and am wondering where to chat about that here. blessed has a card file thread going. Maybe I will put a new thread alongside.

Re: Wow! It's Wednesday with three weeks until Christmas!!
I took a LOT of pots and pans out from under the island. Dh was sitting at the kitchen table so I took the opportunity to ask his advice on some of them. We are donating 3 frying pans and a wok that I never use because stuff sticks to the bottom and it's (alledgedly) teflon or some other stick free brand. There is a small dutch oven that rarely gets used. It went back in because I cook Indian food in it because it's got a black interior. I also "found" 3 cast iron frying pans that all need dh to clean them. Unused cast iron looks nasty, although dh says they are fine and he will "get to them".
There are 4 really good small pots that have that really thick bottoms. They are all very close to being the exact same size. Dh wants to keep 2 that he has had forever. The other 2 are really heavy although they are small. Part of me wants to hold on to them, but I will never need to use all 4 at the same time. Hmmm...
I've heard from some local friends that the thrift stores are really, really busy with people shopping this year. There is a thrift store that isn't taking any donations again until mid January because they have run out of room to store any more donations right now.

Re: Wow! It's Wednesday with three weeks until Christmas!!
Hooray -- LadyM is back in our little village. The FB group is wonderful, and I would HIGHLY recommend that everyone accept those invitations to join and/or search it out as a back-up for those times when this site is having any sort of glitch, you know, BUT HAVING SAID THAT -- this little village is such a wonderful harbor in a sometimes stormy sea, and I don't know WHAT I would do without ALL of you ladies.
Talking about stormy seas... y'all, something that certainly puts things in perspective -- if you can find Rick Karle Good News on FB, look up some posts from yesterday and past few days. Rick Karle is a former newsman in Alabama and I'd say 99% of his news IS good... but there is a tragic story from Mobile Bay in Alabama recently. Two men and the 7 year old son of one of them went on a shrimping adventure last week, the first time for the little boy, and he was so excited... and somehow, the boat capsized. The bodies of the two men have been recovered, but as of yesterday, the boat and the child had not been found. I can't even imagine what this family is going through.
While you're there, however, search for L ulu G ribbons (no spaces, just did that to avoid searches here). This definitely IS a heart-warming story about the teenager who survived the shark attack in the Gulf of Mexico last summer. This is a totally amazing story.
Well -- in my little corner of the world, the only thing I can expect is the unexpected, and I would do well to concentrate on day by day (as Kathryn is doing) and hour by hour (as LadyM is doing -- and LadyM, I think you accomplish more in an hour than I do in a day, and I am really wondering if you have super powers or something.)
The unexpected today is that dmom's family doctor had to cancel appt because HE fell and suspects he may have broken his HIP. He is 62, a year younger than me -- thin as a rail and extremely youthful in appearance. He does have some gastro issues, but otherwise, he seems to be in perfect health. Anyway -- they said someone would see his patients Friday (office is closed on Thursdays every week) and then they would be closed next week, and possibly longer. Shaking my head... and of course, praying for him! He and I have been friends since kindergarten.
Sooo... dmom called at 9:00 a.m. to tell me this... but, did I use my time wisely? Nooooo....
So now, at 11:30, I am just now getting d2s.
The PODA:
-- finish self-care -- make-up, brush teeth, etc. DONE
-- start laundry, final load (towels, underwear) DONE
-- unhook water hoses -- under advice of dcousin's husband -- freezing night temps lately had me asking on FB about letting faucets drip, etc.
At what temps do y'all normally keep faucets dripping, etc? I've never had frozen, burst pipes, but I don't want to start now! DONE
-- go to B uckee's for gift card for dbil's fiance' -- bday is next week -- she LOVES Buckee's DONE
-- dentist *) &!$@_*( Pride goeth before the fall. You know, because I was prideful that I was so much more ORGANIZED than DS & ddil... I called and told them I would never criticize them again. Apparently I can't use a calendar OR a clock!!! Even though I had written it on FOUR calendars, discussed it with dmom & ddil, and ddil told me (on the phone WHILE I was in B ucee's) that she thought it was at 2:00... I STILL got in Bucee's and thought it was at 3:00... I think this is what my dfriend told me was "widow's fog."
-- E lectronics E xpress for new keyboard for desktop -- I am using Chromebook right now bc that sticking "c" on the desktop is driving me insane DONE But I haven't had the courage to try it out yet and see if it really does work with my computer. It is wireless, which always makes me nervous.
-- maybe mall for shoes? My black Sunday shoes are literally being held together with super glue NOPE. I gave up on this one. Decided I would come home and re-group. Maybe find shoes after new dentist appt Monday. Shaking my head...
-- Wmart for cookies for church -- serving cookies and cocoa before parade Friday (I do not plan to help with serving) DONE. Also got everything on my grocery list.
-- church, teach class at 6:30 DONE. I tried to pass it off to the most well-prepared member of the class, LOL, but she said no, I was doing fine. I told them they just wanted to see what I might say NEXT. Actually, the Lord must have been with me for this much at least, because I was probably more competent for that hour than any other point in the day.

OH my Goodness! I’m here!
Will try to CUOP later. We’re still at hotel resting a little before checking out and heading to airport. Flight tonight isn’t until 9 pm.
I was going through open tabs on my phone and here you are! So happy!

I think each home will be different. My parents home had to be protected by leaving water running every time it got below freezing. In our home we don't drip our faucets unless it is below 20F and not above freezing during the daytime. We only have one toilet that has a problem with freezing. It is on the north side of the house with the pipes in the wall.At what temps do y'all normally keep faucets dripping, etc?
I don't do tasks for a long period of time. I have a short attention span, so I do better with the quick-n-done method. Short and easy tasks that when chained together eventually get things done.

Items 1 - 6 are done. Struggling with the rest as I'm tired from exercise class, lots of leg work today.
Stew will be ready soon. We need to eat early so I can start in on the lobby trees. I need to work on all three as I'm the one with a decent stool and the landlord bought 8' high trees. Hopefully their pre-lit lights still work.

Re: Wow! It's Wednesday with three weeks until Christmas!!
I have had the most ridiculous day ever. First, the person who is so organized in our family mistook the appointment time for my dentist appointment so I was at Bucee’s — 20 minutes (at least) away at the time I’m supposed to be at the dentist, dear daughter-in-law of all people told me my appointment was at two. I say no I think it’s at three. My calendar. Of course is in the car so I get out there to the car. Yes it’s it two — and I called the dentist and they reschedule me for Monday so at that point, I am really offkilter and my day is all mixed up.
I did get a keyboard for the computer and I’ve been to Walmart for the cookies for tonight and other groceries and I am now treating myself with a Freddys bacon burger with onions yes it will upset my stomach, but that’s why they make Imodium. I am talking to text because I am too exhausted to type What a day. I also bought some stocking stuffers for Family
Dentist is rescheduled for Monday morning and I hope I have better sense by then.
