You know, sometimes people ask me how long it takes to make a card. Some cards take 15 minutes when I know where I'm going, but sometimes much, much longer. Sometimes I'm at the desk hours and make two cards. It's part of the creative process for me. Trying cardstock with design paper and pulling out different colors to look at together. Pulling out ribbon that might work and trying those. Flipping through "embellishments" i.e. shiny gem type things to see what looks good and what looks gaudy to me.

Well, this sat forever. Dh and I pulled out the stuff we need to fill out for the attorney who will update our will, and we talked about that. Main issue is executor - right now it's a CPA friend who is a little younger than us who could certainly do it. Dh wants his dfriend in NH who is younger and a financial adviser but isn't sure he can do it or can do it comfortably long-distance. And I have homework to email copies of our current will and POAs and healthcare poa, etc. to him, and to look up the deed for the house.

That discussion, and the fact that today is dh's dsis's 74th birthday led to the question of how long his grandparents lived (his father died in his late fifties and mother at 71, which led to us trying to figure out when his step-grandfather died and where he was buried, which led to me finally getting RootsMagic genealogy software set up on this computer (since it was wiped out recently.) So here I am still in pajamas, lol. The day is slipping away, I didn't even get up until 10 a.m. however.

So here I am, nearly two p.m. my time. First I'll get out of pajamas and walk the impatient dog, lol. Dh walked her earlier and she's been patient with me up until now.

Today is also my mother's birthday. She would be 97 I think, born in 1927.

I have been working on packing away the decor from the kitchen and the village from the living room. The tree is also clear, but those decorations are beside the tote that they will be stored in. Four "regular" sized totes are back in the garage until next December 1st. There is one "regular" tote on the coffee table, 2 smaller banker's box sized totes and one small one on the coffee table waiting for me to finish filling them. Dh doesn't do any unpacking or repacking other than the tree.

While I have been doing this, I also washed all the sheets and blankets from the bed, and the bed is almost remade other than 1 blanket and the pillowcases. All clean laundry has been put away as it comes out of the dryer.

I had a rough morning with d mom this morning - I understand her frustration but she knows how to try to manipulate or what daggers to throw to get what she wants.
Talked to dd's and they both said walk away as she knows how to get to me. I have to admit I was frustrated too and I had to go in the other room and have a few tears. I won't argue - what does that do? nothing and she will forget about it in an hour. I have to move on to what is healthy and right without engaging.

it started out last night with me putting an extra blanket on her and she said - why didn't I do that earlier? - mmmm I found the blanket on the floor because she was too hot. She will keep me on my toys

Again, "I am your child" or "I am your niece" used to help with my eldercare when someone I was caring for started thinking I was paid help or on the "level" of an irritating childhood sibling or something. I never actually had to say "be kind, please", but my dcousin did that.

My body says nap but company is coming. Sort of. Dstepson is going to go up on our roof again, worried again about the leaves accumulating in the gutters. Dd44 has been recruited to hold the ladder. I have objected because this could be done at a warmer, more still time, but he insists he must do things when he is off work and able. They are also bringing lightbulbs and looking our mailbox, where, we have been informed, a delivery service put a delivery (not supposed to).

I've asked dd44 to borrow a compass (like, mathematical), but DangerBoy took theirs to college. This is for the project. I can do without it. I used to always have a compass around the house but then we moved ... .. There are ways to make a homemade one that will do the trick for this small thing.

I washed dishes and spiffed the kitchen. That's about it, but I felt useful.

Good afternoon! Church attended, waffles eaten, a little TV watched, and I have prodded DC to, hopefully, actually show their face to the world. DD has long since been up and about — and then promptly ensconced herself in the playroom with her computer. I can’t remember if today is D&D or if she’s just hanging out with friends online. I need to catch them both at once to figure out a common time in their schedules when I can count upon them to do things for me — or for themselves with my prodding (making doctors’ appointments comes to mind).

Harriet, I don’t believe your daughter or stepson would be offended if you took a nap. Your loved ones want you to take care of yourself, surely.

LadyM, it’s funny — I’m getting frustrated with Google searches because they’re using too much AI for my taste. Don’t tell me what you think I want; just give me the results and let me pick through them for what I need.

Twins, I’d be inclined to have the executor closer, but then DmiddleBIL, who lives in London, is serving as the executor for their aunt in Toronto. She had named a local cousin and her husband as executors, but they refused; they were burnt out after doing much of her caretaking over the last few years. So I guess it comes down to who is willing.

And I have missed the window for the weekly Zoom chat with said DBIL. I think it pretty much petered out after DAunt passed away, as much of it was keeping up with what was going on with her.

DH is out with the Scouts, practicing for next week’s Klondike event. (It looks like they will have sufficient snow this year.) I think I am going to take myself back to Mt. Washmore. I have gotten the sorter to the point where there is less than a load of any sort of clothes. Now I can tackle some of the pile of blankets, etc., that has accumulated.

what AI are you using?

I am so new to AI that I don't know much. I tend to ask several AI the same question or to do the same task and compare the results. Each AI seems to have strengths in different areas. Some seem better depending on the subject/request. They are evolving so quickly that I don't know which one I like the best.
AI that I am currently using.....Copilot, chatgpt, grok, meta, gemini.
A couple I have tried and don't care for = perplexity, claude. However, AI is a fast-moving train, so those and others aren't ruled out of my selection forever.

I just turned the network schedule back on for school nights. That schedule turns wifi access off for some devices on school nights. Experience has taught me that teens will stay up chatting with friends, watching shows and playing games until the wee hours of the morning instead of sleeping. When the network isn't available, they tend to sleep without me getting involved.

d harriet - dd younger has had that a lot - my mom, when first here, asked why I was being so nice to "that girl?" - her helper and live in...
we smiled and told mom that she was my dd and that she was her grand daughter - mom was shocked. she found it funny.

hope your d stepson stays nice and safe - I have to smile bc my dh and all my d brother in laws always insists on getting certain things done (esp. with company coming). Not one of us wives could turn them from their chosen fix it program. One time my d sis in law told her dh that he needed to get a professional for the furnace - he didn't and poof there went his eye brows. (he had a red faced look and no eyebrows for a time!

I can't find one of the d dogs collars so that they can go in the back. (we have an electric line fence bc our neighbors to not like fences. the neighborhood behind us can't have fences. The dogs come to the inside yard at night because of the coyotes.

I am back from church and driving one rig on a loop & stopped on the market on the way home.
Got the food put away. One large pork roast I cut in half and will fit in the smaller crock pot.
The freezer was bare I put two jars of chili back inside it after getting the 1 qt. of soup in to
smaller portions. I'll add some other things like half of the chicken thighs in the oven now when they are done.
Some of the dog treats as well.

Walked around the back yard with ddoggo.
I did not want to leave while oven was on.
She approves of them!
I turned the chicken thighs they smell yummy!
