Re: Health and Fitness January, 2025
RR - YGG with group exercising at a challenging level!
I had a small eating blunder yesterday. I brought home a pizza for DS16 lunch and sat it on the kitchen counter. I was busy unloading & putting other food items away that we had brought home. I was hungry and busy which is not a good combination. Instead of stopping & eating my planned food, I snagged a piece of pizza as I walked past. One piece led to two pieces of pizza. I ended the day within my calorie range but eating that high calorie processed food means that I didn't meet my protein, vitamin and mineral goals. Ohs well.
I am not trying for perfection but consistent improvement.
I found a downside of my current exercise goal. I racked up more steps than normal yesterday and when I realized it, I immediately told myself to stop walking and be still. My goal has been to beat yesterday's step count, but by having a high step day then I was sitting myself up for a difficult day tomorrow.
So I adjusted my exercise goal. Now it is to beat last week average steps.
Averaging steps over a week is a much more realistic goal for me. When I have a high step day, I can be happy about it instead of panicking that it will make tomorrow too hard.

Re: Health and Fitness January, 2025
Lady M. I like my step system. When Fitbit had the dashboard online it totalled up the weekly steps for me. Now I use a spreadsheet to enter each day's and that total is linked to "What's the goal this week?" So today, with only three days left in the walking week, I can slack off a little if I need to. Saturday is typically a low step day anyway.
I'm glad I could help, after all, it's not the daily step count that matters, it's the overall movement.

Re: Health and Fitness January, 2025
Yesterday was a good day! I had energy and it made a huge different in my mental being.
Food has not been a problem. I’ve been eating well, no sugar and 1200 calories. But I still need to work on water. However I haven’t been moving much because I just didn’t feel like it.
I haven’t been on the scale for a few days because I know the steroids will affect my weight. I’ll will
Wait till next week to do that.
The proof is in the pudding … yesterday I worked around my home and got in over 10k steps.

YGG!got in over 10k steps.
I am waaaaaay behind you in achieving steps. I am starting from a low point and working on rebuilding my weekly average step count. Unless I do intentional walking every day my step count will drop below 3K.
3635 average daily steps last week
6456 average daily steps this week (so far)
My goal is 7k steps minimum.
There are consequences that happen to my body when I am not intentionally walking.
Under 3k steps result in.....
** My energy level tanks
** My interest in activities & desire to do anything plummets.
** The area underneath my lungs at bottom of rib cage becomes painful to breathe deeply. This has happened to me 3 separate times when I stop intentional walking. The painful tender area goes away when I resume intentional walking with arms swinging.

LadyM, I typically crease by 500 steps daily for the week = 3500 additional steps. It's easy to add 500 steps and I can work up to the weeks with 56K (8K average) or 59.5K (8.5K average.) I seldom get beyond that as a goal but do have days with lots and logs of steps occasionally. IN NYC I had 14K one day.

It’s interesting because the gal who runs our class went back to our old ways today making our class more challenging after many of us requested it.
All the girls were commenting how happy we were to be back to the old way and how much more energized we felt.
I stayed to help set up chairs for an event tonight and I already have 8K steps. However I did eat a dounut as my reward after we finished our work

Sounds like you had a great workout RR!
As did I! Lots of upper body and leg work. It feels good to be back. I know I'll be complaining about going soon. I usually dread it but feel so good when I'm done. Even rowed a little for cardio. The machine they have is as smooth as on the water.

Re: Health and Fitness January, 2025
I had to force myself to record what I ate last night. I was tired and stayed up to monitor teens. I snacked when I should have made the decision to just go to bed. This decision to snack racked up about 400 calories after I had already met my food goals. I acknowledge it, recorded it, and now I am moving on.
I will need to be intentional to get steps in during this cold weather. My walking boundaries have always been that I walk in all types of weather with the exception of when lightning is happening. No lighting is happening today so i need to bundle up and get going. I look forward to that feel good dopamine surge that happens after it is accomplished.

LadyM, was thinking yesterday that the same averaging principle that I use for steps applies to a healthy diet. It's not what you eat today, but what you eat day in and day out. And you eat well 99% of the time, perhaps better than anyone I know.

Re: Health and Fitness January, 2025
I have another 20ish lbs to lose.
I was successful in losing about 20ish lbs in 2024 so I know I can do it.
My weight loss has slowed to a crawl for the past several weeks.
I want to do better than losing 1 lb a month.
I can feel my frustration and am trying to have patience.
On the positive side.....I know what I can change to improve. I know how to do it. Consistence makes change easier.
