My aunt and I had a really nice day with each other, and we stopped by and visited with my dmom for a little while on our way home. Dmom cancelled out because her foot was hurting so bad. I'm glad she did, because it was FREEZING cold and we had to go up a pretty steep little hill to get to the grave.
The only bad thing of the day results in a "Tell me what I said wrong" moment. Sigh. We were passing by the house of the people involved in my MO Survey... and I started telling daunt about that ridiculous (IMHO) event... and I totally forgot that daunt KNOWS these people. The aunt and cousin are really good friends of my cousins, daunt's daughter and granddaughter. Oh my. I told daunt not to ever say a word about it, because I would never want to hurt their feelings, and DS and ddil think I have talked about it quite enough, but daunt has a touch of dementia, you know, and who knows when she might say something she shouldn't. OTOH, Although she sees these people occasionally, when she is with her daughter or granddaughter, she doesn't spend a LOT of time with them. She certainly isn't close enough to them that she was already aware of the event.
She was as taken back by the whole thing as I was, to be sure.
OH -- and I almost forgot -- after I dropped off daunt at Wmart, where we met -- I went to the post office -- and when I turned the key and took it out of the ignition, my Tahoe sounded like it was still running! I tried it a few more times to see if I was hearing things, and then I went straight to the mechanic. I walked in waving my keys and said, "You've just gotta come out and hear this, I can't even explain it..." He laughed and said, "It's your thermostat fan. I heard it when you came in." So... I called DS to come get me, and I left the car with him. What a day... this was certainly a first for me.
And getting off to the funeral with daunt was quite an accomplishment. She called last night, to confirm the time we were meeting -- 15 minutes till 1. She called again at 9:30 this morning to double check. Then at 11:00, my cousin called and said she couldn't get her on the phone, and a mutual friend had just called and told her daunt had been on the phone with her, and thought the funeral was at 11:30! Dcousin said, so she may show up at your house in a minute, but if you don't mind, call me when you get to Wmart and see her. Well, in the meantime, dcousin's husband saw her, at Wmart, already waiting for me, and he reminded her that we weren't leaving till about 1:00. She told him she would go to another friend's house and wait till it was closer to time. Dcousin called that lady and let her know what was going on.
When we did meet up, at the correct time, daunt told me she had gotten there early, but had to go back home and get her wallet, because she realized she was driving without her license!
I know some of you understand this all too well.
Tomorrow I will take dmom to the foot doctor, and who knows what will come of that visit. I asked her if she had asked my dbro for his thoughts on this and she said, "No," in such a way that I said, "And you're not really interested in his opinion?" LOL... she said, "Not really." I thought with his wife such a super smart RN, she would have been talking to them constantly about it, but apparently not.
Yes, Cathy, I was pulling for the Bills too. I'm just tired of the Chiefs... every year... tired of Taylor Swift and Travis... but I'm not a super NFL fan anyway.
I've got to do some baby steps, too, LadyM. Easy to get overwhelmed with my cards and to-dos too... but even though it is almost 10:00 pm now, I can still get a few things done.
Is the emotional checklist something you just came up with or is there something online I could use? DSIL2B told me yesterday that soon I would be able to look back and see how far I've come, since dh passed away, but I just can't see it. I still have problems sometimes even mentioning his name, unless I'm telling something funny he said. I don't really feel like I'm making much progress at all. I still manage to do the things that have to be done, and I can function with other people in Sunday School or my teacher group, but there are still lots of teary moments when I'm alone. I still have to have the TV on 24/7. And... my Christmas tree is still up and my dining room table is still covered with Christmas decorations! Does that sound like someone who is moving forward??? I know, I said my tree was staying up until I get a good report from the biopsy... but still, that may just be an excuse to forget about it for a while.
I did make myself a new system of my daily checklist. It was awkward to get at it and check things off, the way it was on my bathroom counter, so I realized I could put it on 3x5s. Now I have three cards -- morning, daily, and night time routines, and I can look at one card at a time. I still have other cards of course, but these are the basics. The morning and evening are the easy ones... I still struggle with the daily-ness of dailies, LOL.

IKWYM! This is happening to my teacher group. I really enjoy meeting with these ladies once a month, but we are having meetings with 5-6 people every time now, and they are all getting older. I'd say I'm the only one under 65 who ever shows up!Sad when groups that used to be large (more than 10 people every week) are now down to 1 or 2 every week for the past 4 years.
Hope everyone has a great evening -- see y'all tomorrow!
EDITING -- 1:21 a.m.
I've wasted a lot of this time "window shopping" online, bought nothing b/c they didn't take PayPal, (although somehow, they already had my credit card? or at least the last four digits?) and scrolling for no reason at all... BUT since I posted this above ^ a few hours ago, I have --
* paid three bills
* put away receipts
* turned coats in the coat closet (which has not been done in FIVE years) -- probably kept some I should discard, but I filled up a large bag which I will drop off at charity tomorrow
* spent 15 minutes boxing up stuff from the dining room table
* made a list of the ladies in our Sunday School group and the phone numbers, which I just got for myself yesterday, and I will send this list to dsil2b tomorrow (We have a group text, but she and I were talking to each other about how we don't know what numbers go with what names. I had all but 4 and I got those from another member of the class yesterday.)
* cleared out dry, dead leaves & watered the dying dish garden on the dining room table, which dsil2b gave me and which will probably breathe its last in a few weeks. At least I kept it alive almost a year.
* retyped the bill of sale for truck to add the words "as is"
* cleared duplicates/blurry, photos from phone and edited those that I will print. There is a card for this every month, but sometimes it gets skipped. Fortunately, I had made my last order on Dec. 6, so there weren't too many. I've got to figure out a new system for photos. I love keeping them in chronological albums, but they take up a lot of room. A LOT of room, when you print as many as I do, and they will someday be really overwhelming for ds. But I hate having them in boxes, where they get mixed up. OTOH... there are an awful lot of boxes sitting around right now, waiting to be filed in albums.
I also dusted the tiny guest bath, and decluttered a couple of little baskets that were sitting on the shelf in there. This was before I took a 2-hour nap.
