Freezing Friday PWYC

Good afternoon! I have been a slug for the past three days, so I don't have much to tell.

Joining in the thanks for Harriet and Twins. Also to LadyM, who got me back here.

Just got a call from the hospital with my surgery time. I need to arrive by 9:15 for an 11:15 surgery. I need to let DH know to take off/work from home (or the hospital) the whole day. I figure with surgery and recovery, we won't be out of there till at least 1:30, and then DH would need to take me home, so by the time he could cross town back to school, the day would be shot.

I hope all is well with HRH, Harriet.

lucylee, we have a landline that I'd just as soon get rid of. It would be one thing if it were an old-fashioned copper-wire setup with a phone that only plugged into the jack. But our phone, though AT&T, is VOIP (voice over internet protocol), so if the internet goes out, our phone service goes out, and our phones are cordless ones that require a base set to be plugged in, so if we don't have power, the phone doesn't work (besides, our internet goes out, too). So for most emergencies, the cell phone is more reliable. However, DH worries that mobile 911 isn't accurate enough. Dfriend's DH, who is a paramedic for the big city, says keep the landline, but DB, who's retired from a suburban FD, says there's no reason to keep it. We usually just get spam calls on our landline. The hospital did call it today, but I got to the phone too late; they immediately called my cell.

Texted DH the surgery info; he says his Monday meeting's been moved to Wednesday, so all is good. He reminded me to get salmon out to thaw for dinner. That's out now, and I have lunch cooking. After lunch will be exercise (unless I do it while lunch is cooking; I'll have to check how much time I have left) and then laundry. Have a good day, everyone!

I walked most of our route they were spraying on a yard so we skipped that part.
Picked up after ddoggo in the back yard.
Had pea soup for lunch.
Some clouds are coming in now rain this weekend for Sat. Sun. & Mon. they are calling hydrologic event that
used to be called "The Pineapple Express". One degree from our hi temp. for today.

Oh, dear, Ramblin', hope you feel better soon with a good recuperation.

Nancy, it's good you attend a church that's big enough to have programs that everyone doesn't have to attend to still be successful. Each can appreciate and contribute to something, but everyone doesn't have to show up for everything. That's healthier.

LadyM, I am quite ignorant of all the things AI can do, although that was an emphasis of dd26' Computer Science minor in college and I know she sometimes uses it at her work. I'm glad there are so many options and helps for teens these days. Still sorta think all students would do well to have to go back, age appropriate, sometimes, to a few days of the way education was offered when, say, my dmother taught. Phonics, reading and writing in cursive for speed, etc. Even if an obstacle course (pun, I guess), it would be an eye-opener and a good reminder, I think.

Our landline is a "bargain" because it is bundled with our computer line, very speedy, don't remember the name. HRH never complains about its cost, but does about the cell phone. I don't think we have a good deal on the cell. I like being able to reach for the phone at my desk knowing that HRH at his desk, opposite corner of the house, is completely aware of the call, too, and I can see who it is and let it go to him if more appropriate. But someone can catch the phone if the other isn't able. The phone base announces the caller - we both like that. The intercom feature is used most every day, especially times when I don't feel so great lately and may be lying down. No way I'm going to carry a phone around on my person day in and day out, but my children certainly do. Just what they have grown used to - literally on their hip or in a pocket every waking hour, I think. Only ddolder has a house phone as well.

Glad the medical is coming together conveniently, Mystery.

swedish meatballs, green beans, cauliflower done and in the fridge
carrots - cut up- sliced some mushrooms, cut up celery for nibbling as well. /fruit salad/grapes cleaned, strawberries cleaned, blueberries set aside for tomorrow.

Got my walk & steps in.

My church is really struggling and not sure what's up with that; they do a food thing to
pull people in that works for most but no for me as it's a mine field of unhealthy stuff
I should not even look at! LOL! Spicy foods have not been my friend this fall & winter.
If I were inclined to go I could make a cheese dip with out spicy cheese and they could add
their own salsa to it ; there is a Velveeta recipe with mayo for a crock pot that is good. But a bit spendy to make.
They are doing tacos. Sides could be churrous [sp?]I suppose but no clue how to make em or where to get em
LOL!

Glad for more sun today some clouds but it's still shining through it's been missed.

I got out of the house and got some steps accomplished. It was not my favorite way of getting steps because it was on concrete, but it was the best option I had in the cold weather. We went to Sam's to walk the aisles, get DH prescription, and restocked the pantry/freezer items. I was happy to buy eggs at $4 a dozen instead of the $10+ that I paid last time I bought eggs.

DS16 and GF are babysitting her 5 siblings while GF parents are on a date.
DD49 told DD13 that she was going to come get her today and do something together, but that hasn't happened. DD13 keeps checking her phone to see if DD49 has text her yet.

I finished March planning and lesson assignments for 3 of DS16 circulums. I still 2 more to do but I think better in the AM so don't want to work on it in the evening.

I've worked a bit on the sewing for the quilt top parts I have on the design board. Have gotten to a point that really needs good daylight, though, so I guess I'll wait on it all until tomorrow. Agreeing with LadyM - sometimes you wait for morning clarity.

HRH is still not feeling well. We watched a few mystery shows together. He had soup and crackers. I've offered some things I could cook for us, but he's not interested so far. He's on the couch snoozing and I hate to turn on the kitchen light because it will be in his eyes. Hmmm ... ..

Ddolder called. DangerBoy and his 3 roommates must find off-campus housing after all for their sophomore year. They did everything they were told to qualify for on-campus for another year, and well within the early time, but somehow there is simply not enough space anyway. Dd says this moves a lot of things up by a year. She didn't think she would have to guarantee a rent agreement so early. Really hoping for a close building. There are some that say they are right up against campus, but I suppose everyone is hoping for those. Would certainly rather they didn't have to cross multi-lane traffic.

I have on some golden oldies tunes reminds me of a sox hop in 6th grade! =D
Got a 2nd dish cloth done to complete this set.

Birds are back;
Learned this today woodpeckers are some that migrate.
Been seeing and hearing robins too lately.
Watched wild canaries in my tree out the bedroom window today too.

FINALLY we got above freezing! It wasn't uncomfortable at all when I got out around 4:00 to go get DGD, but by the time we ate supper at a local drive-in, I had to turn the car back on for heat.
I'm glad I don't have to walk a dog too, Harriet! I hope HRH feels better soon! Also hope DangerBoy and his roommates find housing that they all like and feel safe in.

I am ashamed and embarrassed to say I did NOTHING worthwhile today... Last night, the panic set in and I stayed up till 4:00 a.m., watching Family Feud and Judge Mabeline, trying to keep my thoughts occupied with things that make me laugh... but at 4:00, I took a Zofran and went to bed. Then watched Green Acres till daylight.
Talked to DS at the time I thought he'd be taking dgrands to school and then talked to dmom.
Listen -- I am well aware that this is silly and makes no sense -- but I was in a panic attack crying jag all day long -- ds and dmom tried to tell me there is no reason at all for me to feel bad about cutting out the landline. Obviously, as many of you have stated, and many of my IRL friends have shared, it is very easy to function with only a cell phone. Definitely nothing unusual about choosing this route, and ds pointed out that dh did NOT like to waste money; he would likely be pleased that I decided to stop throwing away $40-$50 every month.
BUT... something in me just chose this to be the straw that broke the camel's back...
I got through Christmas and New Year's...
and I'm prepared for the biopsy, and it's results, as much as I can be...
and I've prepared the taxes on my own, and I'm trying to work out the bond money with ds in a fair way...
and I sold the truck...
and I'm facing the approaching one year anniversary (April 12) and hopefully, the arrival of dh's monument by then...
and suddenly, giving up the phone number that dh and I had from the day we married just caused me to completely freak out.

Dmom advised that I take one of the extra anxiety pills that family doctor had given me, so I did, along with another Zofran, and I did finally sleep from around 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.
And I'm feeling a little better now. Spending the evening with dgd helped, and just giving myself time to wind down helps a little.
DBIL's fiance told me it's just hard, learning to do everything on my own and making decisions like this, but that every month I will get stronger and that I am really doing well with this.
I made a list of people who have called me in the past six months that MIGHT HAVE been using the landline (since it forwarded to the cell phone, I can't tell which number they use.) I have about a dozen people that I think should have my number, and I plan to try to let a couple of them know each day. Of course, anyone that I text with has the cell number or they wouldn't be texting -- but I sent texts to close friends today anyway.

The internet really seems like it will be good. DGD hasn't complained once.
She hasn't been on her screen all night though; we've played a couple games of Outburst and she has tried to teach me to jump rope. I have never been able to jump rope.

Very much agree with gratitude to Harriet and Twins!!! WHAT would we do without you two keeping us going on this board, and what would we do without each other?

Look at Rose there... 70 degrees... hope your headache is completely gone by the time you read this.

Nancy, it seems I've had way too many "rest days" lately. I really hope to get things under control (WHB, mainly) on Monday, after dgrands are gone, and before doctor's appts start. I have to take dmom to foot doctor Tuesday, andLad my biopsy is Wednesday.

Mystery -- I don't know what time I'll have to be there -- they will call me the day before -- but just like you, they said I would have to arrive 2 hours before time for the procedure, and then probably 30 min in surgery, an hour possibly in recovery.
No food after midnight except clear liquids, and none of them for two hours before arrival time, I think.
DDIL may have to take off work early that day to pick up dgrands at school.

LadyM, the changes in education ARE amazing. I do not understand AI or ChatGP, but my dmom said dbro uses it in his work. I can't imagine going back into the classroom at this point.

WTG, blessed, on all that food prep. Food is such a problem as a single person. Not that dh and I ate a healthy diet to begin with, but it seems like I throw out sooo much food these days. Fruits, salads, cheese -- all go bad before I can eat them. It's impossible to cook just enough for one, so I have to think of things that will allow freezing of leftovers, or cook when dgrands are here. I do plan to make some taco soup with some of this beef I won. I am still just amazed that I, of all people in this town, I won this much beef. I will NEVER enter another drawing if I don't REALLY want the prize. But I need to figure out some way to eat a little bit better around here. I've had chicken fingers and fries the last three nights.
