Welcome Kitty!

Seems like there is a lot of strong winds blowing around every where. I have them here too so I can’t work on my side garden. Bought 6 more bags is dirt to lay down, but it’s impossible to do at the moment.

I’ve uncovered all my sunnies and am happy to say they are looking good. Sweeties birthday cookies have been made and have been put away. Only tasted a small half piece as I have never made them before and wanted to know what they were like.

In the meantime I’ve gone through several clothes drawers and put them in my GW pile. My allergies have really kicked in even with my otc meds. Time to find an allergist dr as I was up a good part of the night coughing.

I have been to the garden 3 times this morning. The joy I feel is unmistakable to be returning to normal doings after yesterday's wild wind. It is going to take some doing to recovery the garden from yesterday wind but with a few hours of effort I think it will be fine. All the plants were blown over but only one of the newly transplanted tomato plant actually broke. I have put the broken stem ends together and will give it a few days to see if it can recover. How the wind lifted and moved 6' tall 3' round wire cages is a bit mindboggling. This winter I made changes to the structure of the garden and the wind showed me the weak points that need to be modified. No matter how many years of experience there is always new ways to learn and improve.

I put a fresh battery in the push mower and did the first round of the 2025 mowing season. I do enjoy mowing so this brings me joy of having another outdoor activity.

We have heard thunder this morning. What I no longer heard was the wind chimes. I went outside and looked where the closest ones to the house are. The antique wooden ladder blew over! The wind chimes were on the ladder. They are also laying on the ground. I will deal with that in a couple of days. It's pouring rain here.

Dh brought the shop vac in and did some vacuuming in the kitchen. One of the cats dug in one of the larger plants that are lined up in front of the front door. Between the 2 of us we moved the racks and the kitchen table and chairs and now that whole area has been swept, vacuumed and everything is now back in place. I also swept the rest of the kitchen.

LadyM, you and dh endured such a Wizard of Oz bewildering event yesterday! So glad to hear you're okay.

My kitchen needs attention,
and then I must peek into the half-bath and see if it needs to be spiffed more after our very strange waterless day yesterday.

I was so grateful to have our filled jugs of water, which we actually keep for toilet-filling in case of power outages, ready and available to us. In yesterday's case it was the loss of water which is much more unexpected, but demanding. We were able to put those jugs to immediate and helpful use and remained normally toileting people through the day without relying on other houses!

A book chat thread has been mentioned on Fan and Games thread and if we had one again we would want it to be where the newest registered folks could find it. Those who know our village well, where do you think? Is the reading of books "Creative", for instance.

I have been out to walk the ddoggo between rain showers and before the winds kick up.

I have been in the sewing room & did find a good size actually bigger and better than I thought and it's great!

Irish tunes on in the back ground it's a reel.
Made another bag I need to remember to measure twice! LOL! It will work but was 11" not 12" wide.
I made up some dog treats and they are cooling ddoggo approves of the taste I made her.
I mixed up and cook turkey gravy to go with sliced turkey for hot turkey sandwich for dinner sounded good to me.
Did a few rows of crochet on the hot pad set I'm making up for the food baskets in Nov. our church does up. They go in the bags I'm seaming up.

CI I've been cutting out rectangles of fabric for the bags I think I have enough cut out now yea!
Declaring this my sewing retreat weekend or at least the start of it!
Might have to complete my steps on the gazelle.
I'm not reading any books at the moment. Jus sayin'
Did walk around in the back yard a while ago.
Wanted to add ddogg came down to the basement to ckeck one me!

My side garden work is a bust… 35 mph winds did not deter us. We raked and cleaned out the bed and removed old mulch. I wanted to lightly sprayed down the area before we topped it with new dirt. Before I knew it Sweetie drench the area and now I have mud! Will need to wait till it dries out before. I work on it again. I have to remember Sweetie might not be around to help me next year. Life with an engineer with Alzheimer’s!

For myself, I think of books as fun and games. I read a lot of fiction. The dusting and shelving and hunting of books might be creative.

Speaking of books, I have been cuddled up in bed under my duvet trying to have a nap, but much too involved in reading yet another John Sanderson book. (Secret Prey)

We are watching weather here -- DGS is overly excited. He has one weatherman on his phone, one in my bedroom, and one in the living room. He runs back and forth, shouting the latest reports, even when they are hundreds of miles away and unlikely to affect us. He has a map of the state on the floor in front of my recliner and is marking the storms' locations with magnets from a baseball chart. If I take him home, I know he will drive ddil out of her mind -- the last time we were there, she wasn't even sick, and she still told him she was "over-stimulated" and made him be quiet.
There have been very few reports of anything on the ground, and the worst thing reported is very large hail about 20 miles from here. This makes me very hesitant to go to ds's house for the basement, because I do NOT want my car hit with baseball size hail. BUT... if they put our town in the path of a warning, we will go.
There was an apartment building in our town which was hit by lightning and caught on fire. No injuries. We also are under a flash flood warning. Where I live, this will not be a problem, but there are areas around here that will have problems. Of course, heavy rain has me nervously watching the ceiling in the study -- even thought there are condensation pans under the dormer to catch any leaks.


We've eaten something (Mexican Rice-a-Roni w/hamburger meat) that I think he called lunch, but it was around 2:30 when we ate. The tv people say we may be on alert till midnight.

DGD got me up before 8:00 a.m. and I slept through most of our basketball game... which we lost. I could honestly fall asleep again right now if he would calm down. He said he is not nervous or scared of storms, I think he's just enjoying staying on top of things right now.

So anyway -- it could be a slow day for me, but he is being very loud and boisterous.

I would enjoy a book thread. I don't have any opinion on where it goes. I agree with Twins -- our newcomers are very ambitious. I'll look even lazier compared to their lists! * I did clean the kitchen after we ate -- emptied dishwasher, washed by hand those things that needed it, and swept the floor.

Just wanted to check in and let y'all know we're hanging in here with the storms so far. Temperature has dropped to 57 degrees, so it's unlikely we'll get any really bad storms as it gets later in the day, but who knows? DGS will make sure we stay watchful.

We went on a drive to look at the nearby fire damage. Two towns within 10 miles of us had to evacuate yesterday as the winds were carrying fire sparks which kept starting multiple fires. They said we had 130 wildfires in our state started this way. The fire depts were amazing but there was no way to stop many of the fires before they burned businesses and homes. Even our state governor home was burned to the ground.

DS16 and girlfriend have called three times to let me know they are having a grand time on their adventure. It makes my heart happy to see them growing in ability and widening their experiences. I want them to enjoy their teenage years.
