Or, at least, don't spring back into bed!

I'll admit it. When I said to dh last night that maybe we should put on the lighter top bed covering, and he asked, "Is that because spring starts tomorrow?", I said, "Tomorrow is only the 20th." And he had to explain that spring comes earlier this year.

I'm still thinking it is February, so am feeling completely discombobulated with this news.

But I'll go with it since I was getting tired of my winter decorations.

I'm back from another frustrating visit with my sister. Aside from seeing a document that she couldn't send to me, and confirming her computer and printer work just fine and she can copy, scan, and print, despite all her protestations that both are not working, and returning toilet paper to Costco, nothing was done.

She is getting closer to agreeing to move into an apartment but in Toronto, not here. She won't move into a retirement home because it will be like being in university with a meal plan and getting tired of the same food all the time. She won't make an appointment with the doctor, call the tax department to confirm I can talk with them, give me the power of attorney document (or even show it to me), or let me put away all the tax files from 2018 onwards, which she has in 'her piles' but they are not 'like' documents so I spotted a 2024 tax document piled in with the 2018 stuff. Which means, when she goes to do her 2024 taxes, she won't have all her documents.

So, I guess today my tasks regarding her are:

1. Contact her doctor and see if I can convince them to call her and make an appointment.

2. Contact a lawyer and get them to contact her lawyer to tell me if I am actually named in her powers of attorney. And ask what my next step is if she won't give me the piece of paper. I suspect I will have to have a hearing to declare her incompetent. Since the nicer retirement homes that I want her in require an assessment that she can live independently (which she can if you take away all her financial control and tax stuff), I'm not sure what our next step will be.

Money is not an issue. Half her assets are her home and that is enought to tide her through her remaining days. So even if she does trade away all her money (yes, she is still in control of her stock market trading account), she'll be fine and I have lots of options. But none will be with her cooperation.

We get along fine as long as I do everything she asks me to do.

In other news, at the opposite end of life, I'm expecting my next (foster) grandchild today. Dfs and his wife are just moving into the birthing room now.

So glad to see you here, Kathryn. I can imagine your frustration with your sister, but you sound incredibly patient with her.

So sad that LordM had another episode. And now to hear that Cathy's DH is showing possible signs of disorientation. Hugs to both of you!

It may be spring, but it is not sunny here, and our springlike weather here is about to disappear. It's 50-something this morning (just over 10) and expected to drop through the day into the low 30s (about 0) with snow tonight. I can't remember how many days the cold is supposed to last.

I'm up unreasonably early for me. DC has an 8 am class Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I've got to be up early to take them. I would have gotten started on payroll once I got back, but I need to leave shortly to take DD to driving lessons. (Sadly, they do not pick up.) Once I'm back from dropping DD, I'll have about an hour and a quarter to do some work before I need to leave to pick them up, if I'm doing the math right. (I'll set an alarm on my phone for the right time and let the phone do the math; I'm too bleary.)

I'm going to go throw on another layer and dig out some meds I managed to leave out of my pill case -- I'll have to check my weekly pill box to make sure I have them for the rest of the week. By then, it should be time to take DD. Have a good day, everybody!

Hurray for spring!!!

Oh Kathryn… that’s a tough situation you are dealing with. Thankfully Seeetie and I got ahead of the game before he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. And can’t offer much advice since the laws are different here.

However it is good to see you here

I am up and finished my morning routines and picking up my footprints. I was able to get everything done yesterday with the exception of planting my seeds.

Todays goals in no particular order:
* color hair
* spot mop floors
* spread mulch
* exercise
* tend to my sunnies
* laundry… it’s already spinning

What a treat to see Kathryn & Mystery posting earlier than usual.

We have a 10am appointment that is an hour drive away. It is an easy drive with most of it at 80mph and only one traffic light between us and doc office. I'm adding 15 minutes for possible aut-oh's so that puts us leaving at 8:45. Today's appts are for DH and my semi-annual skin check. DH usually has several places that need treatment (former red head, light skin resulting in high risk of skin cancer).

Baby Isaac was born under an hour ago. Daddy has already sent me a picture. So adorable!

Ok, now I should walk away from the computer, shower and then get going at replacing winter decorations.

Hi!

I have power of attorney and medical power of attorney only because dh insisted on it very early on in our marriage. He was too busy at work to be able to go do banking and go to the pharmacy to pick up all his meds. With POA I am able to do any and all banking. With MPOA I am able to go to his doctor and talk to him about anything, plus I can get the results of medical procedures and talk to his pharmacist about any of his prescriptions.

I have nothing to do today other than take the compost bin to the road. It's overcast here. All 3 cats went out earlier and came running to the door when I opened it. I only had to call one of the three to hurry her up a bit. She decided to stop and sniff things on her way to the door. Silly kitten.

We are going out for supper.

Kathryn, what happy news about Isaac's arrival! But what a long trip for you to make, what trouble to go to, to meet such obstacles with your sister. Just changing to an apt, yet still so far away from her family, doesn't help family much at all. It would be a step, but moving is amazing trouble to go to in general. And that would be a move into a rental agreement of a year, I suppose, still physically distant and difficult for you.

Mystery, good job to you and DD, on the trail of driving independence. Hoping work goes well for you today.

My new pavers/steps at back door entrance are very attractive and it looks as though it's been this way all the time. Ds staggered the pavers so that it is still as obvious where each step begins. A very confident walk back and forth, and in fact I went out already this morning, admiring it. Each footfall space is now roomier front-to-back, but not as high. Ds is going to come back and do a little more to secure all, but it seems really set and sturdy already. Someday I will bound up stairs again (smile), but for 2025, a modest ascent will be fine.

I have groceries to put away.
Then brunch to fix.
Need to send directions and schedule to dd26 for tomorrow.
