Re: Salsa Saturday
Salsa is the name for Latin American dances that are danced to salsa music. Salsa is one of the most popular types of Latin dance that is practiced worldwide, and is typically danced with a partner, although there are elements of solo footwork as well. There are several distinct styles of salsa that are danced around the world.
The term "salsa" was coined by Johnny Pacheco in the 1960s in New York, as an umbrella term for Cuban dance music being played in the city at the time. Salsa as a dance emerged soon after, being a combination of mambo (which was popular in New York in the 1950s) as well as Latin dances such as Son and Rumba as well as American dances such as swing, hustle, and tap.
As salsa music spread to other countries, different styles emerged.

Re: Salsa Saturday
Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!
Gma, thank you for your great wisdom, experience and kindness.
Helian, just in case you haven't caught up from yesterday, Gma made a list of the two most important things to work through when moving your DMum to the new NH.
L.Ann, when I'm getting shopping for someone else I like a list that says how much of everything the person needs (eg 2 bananas). And I like to go through it with them beforehand, so I know exactly what they want!
Today is cloudy and mild (10 C so far), and isn't raining. Yet. DH is planning to go and see an outdoor performance of sea shanties with his friends, so I hope it stays dry! I would like to do something in my garden and go for a walk if it doesn't rain, but if it is wet, then, as usual, there is plenty to do round the house!
I did read the attachment to *that* email yesterday evening, but so far I have no idea how to answer the questions.
Maybe that's something I can do 15 minutes at a time?
No extra baking this week, and as we ended up with lots of fresh raspberries from Waitrose, I need to use some of them to make a dessert for tomorrow (mousse? fool?).

Re: Salsa Saturday
* * * Good Morning! * * *
Hi kittykatt, thanks for the South-American start ! We have raspberries too, I will serve them like trifles or fools, with lemony-sugary whipped mascarpone, and some crushed speculoos on top. As for glasses, kids regulary break or twist theirs, and local opticians stores usually repair them for free or almost free, even if you didn't buy your glasses at that store. If yours won't be of service, I hope you find the right tools to replace your screw.
Mild and grey here. Long week, payroll boss is on Spring break (since Wednesday night after late emails around 9.30, and even emails on Thursday while she was still home, and even a phone call Thursday around 1pm, I was like 'won't she leave me alone already'...). Lots to do and to catch up on at payroll. Not CUOP here.
We have guests tonight, friends from MrNG's previous payroll, low-key menu with store-bought frozen pizza, and his DF K-- is going to make capirinhas, she's back from a few months in Brazil. We will be in the "salsa" theme tonight!
And the bonus with guests is : the house will be clean for the week, and there will be leftovers for tomorrow
TADAs
all up, all fed, MrNG left to drive DS9 to athletics practice with his schoolfriend L--
drew a few egg shapes on paper for DS6 to decorate (we still have happy new year decorations in the entrace veranda
folded previous lol
checked DS9 list of things for his sailing class with school next Tuesday
TODOs
put away lol
some clearing and cleaning in LR, bathrooms, entrance, kitchen
cook easy lunch
buy neoprene shoes / boots for DS9 for his sailing class with school on Tuesday
some cooking for tonight (desserts with raspberries, possibly a salad)
work on family 2024 photo album
enjoy guests and dinner

Re: Salsa Saturday
kittykatt, I had to look up salsa steps - it's been so long since I did formal ballroom dancing! It's actually customary here for high school students to attend a year long course (usually in the sophomore year) on ballroom dancing, learning the "usual suspects" - both standard and Latin.
leftover pizza, Frenchie? Either you're having too much of it, or I am doing something wrong, we never have that!
YIkes about your bosss, and have fun tonight!
It's slow Saturday morning! I've been up for two hours and have little to show for that, but that's OK, we have no big plans for the day. Garden is calling, though. And one of these days we'll have to make a trip to a carpet store - DBD's room needs repainting and a new carpet, and the only time to get that done will be when kids are gone, which is Easter or mid May when they have overnight scout trips.
Also kinda have to figure in DH's possible upcoming business trip to the USA, which should be sometimes end of May till mid June? But I am really hoping that they will either cancel it alltogether or that he will not be internally cleared to go (he wasn't for the last one, because he's a key personnel and being absent for too long is messing up with deadlines). With everything that's been going on lately, and with the unusual nature of their trips (how do you explain "we need to drive around in various trucks and record the ambient sounds and engine sounds?") and the specialized recording equipment they are packing, they'd be in risk of being flagged as lying about their reason to enter. The times have certainly changed

Re: Salsa Saturday
Good morning, FFB and Trissie! (It's still jist morning here
)
FFB, thank you for the suggestion re getting.my.glasses.foxed. I think opticians here may have the same system - if I'm.notnsuccessful today, then I'll try when I'm in town next (ATM I've used a paperclip to hold them together temporarily, which is working well, although rather unsightly!
)I hope you have a lovely time with your guests this evening. How wise to keep the food simple so you can all have fun together. Your suggestions for being creative sound delicious.
Trissie , it's scary, all the extra considerations one has to think about when travelling to the IS these days.
It's still dry here, with the promise of some
this afternoon, so I'll be joining you in the garden as soon as I've finished in the house.
DH has left to meet his friends for the sea shanties performance. (It's my understanding it's an all day affair, taking place at the harbour, near, of course a pub.
If I'm thinking of the right pub, it's an old building, and part of it fell down after particularly bad storms about a year ago.
It will be interesting to hear if it's been rebuilt since then?!?)
I'm up, had breakfast and coffee with DH, proof read his email for him and made some suggestions (he's standing down from the committee of the amateur dramatic society at their AGM in June -this is just to give everyone good notice) and got my email written, checked and sent.
Next, I need to PUPA, a quick dust of the sitting room and maybe the bedroom, and run the hoover round quickly, before I go out in the garden.
