The theremin, originally known as the ætherphone, etherphone, thereminophone[2] or termenvox/thereminvox) is an electronic musical instrument controlled without physical contact by the performer (who is known as a thereminist). It is named after its inventor, Leon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928.

The instrument's controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which function not as radio antennas but rather as position sensors. Each antenna forms one half of a capacitor with each of the thereminist's hands as the other half of the capacitor. These antennas capacitively sense the relative position of the hands and control oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (volume) with the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker.

The sound of the instrument is often associated with eerie situations. The theremin has been used in movie soundtracks such as Miklós Rózsa's Spellbound and The Lost Weekend, Bernard Herrmann's The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Justin Hurwitz's First Man, as well as in theme songs for television shows such as the ITV drama Midsomer Murders and the Disney+ series Loki, the latter composed by Natalie Holt. The theremin is also used in concert music (especially avant-garde and 20th- and 21st-century new music); for example, Mano Divina Giannone is a popular American thereminist who along with his orchestra, The Divine Hand Ensemble, regularly holds concerts. It is also used in popular music genres, such as rock.

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday!

Thank you to all those who asked after Freddie -he is very well in himself, and his tummy is improving, but he's still a little "irregular". We'll keep on with the GI food for a few more days

Dogged, you need a jar key for that lid. Cheap, and *very* easy to use!

I need to jump in the shower now, as I have another early start and a new route to church
through back roads (I'm not using the "official" diversion - too many points to get delayed, especially as more cars will be using those roads) due to the roadworks!

I have definitely heard that spooky sounding instrument before, Kitty -- I just didn't know what it was! So interesting! Glad Freddie is improving.
That's quite a list, Bama!

I didn't get back here yesterday. I was just so tired after payroll. I'm still struggling to get a full night's sleep; it's still not happening, not sure why at this point. Maybe after the stressful week last week, my body just became used to not getting enough sleep? Anyhow, I wasn't productive after payroll -- but did get some small things done after dinner: ordered replacement bowls, ordered new dishwashing brush, changed the payment for audible bc it was on dd26's cc, for some reason. And dh and I went for a walk in our neighborhood. It was a lovely evening! The flowers are finally blooming, the trees are budding, it was still warm and sunny at 8 pm - the days are getting longer. ☀️

Today, I'm up and at 'em a little earlier bc I need to be across town at 8 a.m. to meet with the personal trainer. Afterward, I'll stop by the NH and see my mom. I have counseling @ 2 pm. I'd also like to get to the grocery store, maybe jog even though I'm working out this morning (I'm not doing well keeping up with jogging), get clean sheets on the bed, and work on paperwork for Mom. I might also figure out how I'm going to present grammar tomorrow; this textbook is very dry in its "presentation".

Our forecast high today is 83*F. 8-) I don't even know how to dress for temps that warm.

Next:
- spiff self
- back exercises
- 8-9 meet with trainer

Later:
- see Mom; take some measurements in her room for shelving
- some qt
- s2s and self care
- grocery list; write up retroactive menu plan
- grocery store/ order
- put food away
- jog?
- lunch
- strip MBR bed
- clean sheets on bed
- laundry: bedding, towels
- 2-3 counseling
- call dentist -- when is my next appointment?
- fill out info for dentist for Mom
- ask R and maybe AK (S2's dh) re: rec for neurologist
- join dh at our fav outdoor coffee shop?
- payroll: prep AAS D2
- payroll: finish end of session tasks from last session
- payroll: start GGT
- dinner: TBD but maybe tuna pasta from freezer, green salad
- after dinner clean up
- can I book tix for my trip to Maine in August?
- anything else on brain dump list?

TaDas!
- up; weighed self -- big increase; Easter showed up? LOL!
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website

Always smile when I am reminded of the theremin. It is so traditionally associated with Star Trek, although the original theme was sung. A young man in the church we attend online right now plays the theremin and has been a wonderful addition to the music program there. He has everyone in rapt attention, believe me.

Morning all. Interesting info about the instrument.

Kittykat I hope the drive is not too painful. Construction is trying.

Harriet I bet that instrument is an attraction.

Bama that looks like a list of one extra thing in each room? Good idea.

Helian I feel like it's the stress. You have your mom settled and the busy is calming but the high alert... I have to get more things done than there is time in the day. Or one demand after another that needs attention right now..and after it's past then the tired hits. Why am I stressed? It's past the demanding part? That's me anyway. I think as long as my demands for my time get fewer and farther between maybe I can recover? Be gentle with yourself and rest when your body tells you to. Advice for all of us.

Anyway now I need to get up. I had full intentions of a soak now and if I don't move I will run out of time.

Soak in tub instead of shower
Fold laundry put the rest away
Take my time and finish getting ready for work

good morning from here. I'm heading out in a few minutes to take dog to specialty vet. Local vet thought he saw cancer in adrenal gland.
This will be so hard on Mom.

Thursday
Cleaned up after dog
Put away clean laundry
Scrubbed out sink and basin
Washed dishes
Filled both cutlery holders for the dw. Even if it is mostly a cutlery washer, it has earned its place in my house and heart. I loath washing cutlery.
Wiped down/put away breadmaker
Wiped down/put away rice maker

Good morning, all. Thank you for starting us off, kittykatt. I had always believed that the original Star Trek theme was played on a theremin, but it turns out not.
I actually do have that jar key, which has been a wonderful addition to my life, giving me access to commercial jars of pickles and olives. My remaining issue is with homemade jars of food in mason jars. They are well armed against the jar key. They have a flat circle and then a ring that screws on, like this: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/pur- ... 0493p.html

Hi, Bama.

Woo hoo for flowers, helia. I see green grass; it gives me hope for flowers.

Oh, Harriet, that would be riveting. I wonder if the theremin player attracts new members to your church?

laurlind, I can so relate. I have far fewer demands on my time than you do, but I still feel that I am floundering in a sea of To Dos.

Gma, I am sorry. Hoping for the best for you all.
