Helian, I wouldn't worry about being a helicopter daughter at the NH. It will show them that you are concerned about your mom, that they need to be vigilant in her care. The early time in a NH is time for close observation. For them to get to know her, and for you to know whom you can trust. In MN, there's an upcharge for the first month because there's extra time spent on all those initial things.
Just be nice about the questions. And I'm sure you are.

Wow it is so good to see you all here. I always post after most of you are sleeping across the ocean. I have still been posting on sheforums as it is still up. I am having a hard time moving here. I don't do change well.

I am retiring May 23 but coming back as a part time teacher Sept. 2 for 4 classes a week. for 4 , 7 week sessions doing a fast track class.

Last 2 weeks have been super busy and have one more super busy week. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Planning on coming back to England this summer to do canal boats near Manchester England. Hubby and I have a western US trip planned for August but other than that we will be learning a new routine.

Good to read everyone's news. I feel you trissie - I have added 15 hours to my normal schedule the last 2 weeks and have 1 more week of doing that - not overtime exactly but part of my contract so I can often get Friday off.

I intend on spending the first 2 weeks of June working on organizing my space.

It will be nice to have a low key weekend.

Ok dog people. How did you introduce your dogs to Grandkids. He's been around him but I have always kept him at arms reach so he can't jump on lil j. I do want them to be friends but j is so small yet. I've never done this before.

Ds just put the roast on the grill. I think the kids know when dh is home likely they will come then. I'm going to sit for a bit. Bring the dog in and deal with the kitchen.

Hi, all. It is a work day for me, so I don't demand much from myself, but I have walked Germane and plan to do another load of handwashing.

laurlind, I have actually never been in that situation with my dogs, as I have no grandchildren or children. My labrador Momentum came to me already socialized for toddlers and adored them. My dachshund Dreadnaught, who I had at the same time as Momentum didn't like children so he would keep himself just out of their reach and I respected his boundaries. The one time that we were in a house with a toddler who showed too much interest in him, we let Dready retire to bedroom for peace and quiet while Momentum made friends with the toddler. Inertia was anxious around strangers, but liked children better than adults. And Germane would bite a child, so I tuck her under my arm when I see one coming and get ready to get my hand between.

If Casper doesn't jump on guests, then I would have adults holding the children and let Casper be free during the introduction. In the old days, guard dogs were rendered aggressive by keeping them on short chains, the idea being that frustration over trying to reach some they really want and being held back would lead to aggression. But if he is likely to jump on the guests, then that puts the guest and child at risk of being scratched.

Hi, all! We had a lovely day of meandering after taking care of mandatory errands. We went to the farmers market and got fresh foods and lovely plants. Tomorrow we shall plant them if all goes well. Just got in so going to eat (grabbed a chicken salad croissant) and watch something with dh until bedtime.

Laura, I’m probably way too cautious when it comes to small people and pets. How large is the dog? I’d do what Dogged says and keep an eye out for growling, excited behavior, crating works for me too. Treats are good if dog doesn’t snatch them. We have a German shepherd, they are known for being very rowdy (as well as being 120 lbs full grown) from 6 months to about 2 years old so I would usually put him away from company. Now he’s 7 and super chill so he’s free to sniff and join in unless someone is scared of large dogs.

Doggedly and Bama. Sounds about right. He's 60 something pounds. Over friendly samoyed that will try to friendly jump at first but usually listens. J is tiny still. He hasn't seen too many kids yet. I don't think I did overly well at socializing. Oops. He just gets excited with extra people

I only have experience with little dogs. When our son was born, our female Pekingese cross was such a little mother, that I told my husband, I think I could leave her in charge, if only she knew how to dial the phone and tell me our son was awake. Angel (that was ddog's name) would often wake me in the middle of the night just to tell me to go check on him. By the time I got out of bed, ds was awake, starting to cry, wanting to be fed.
When my niece was born, Pansy was our female Pekingese, who had had 1 litter of puppies. My newborn niece and my close neighbor/friend were both Katie. So we had Katie and Baby Katie. (Baby Katie was 1100 miles away). DH and I spoke so frequently about Baby Katie that when neighbor Katie came over, Pansy went to her and sniffed, sniffed, looking for baby smells, wondering where Katie's baby was!
My recommendation is to talk about the baby, use the baby's name, mention often how precious baby is. Don't make a big deal of it when they baby is first in the house, but certainly don't leave them alone together.

Yes, it was good news that ddog does not have cancer. But she also DOES have pancreatitis, Cushings (an adrenal gland enlargement and extra hormone secretion), some thickening of intestinal walls (probable inflammation vet said) and a very poor appetite. And all this apparently is treatable, so that is also the good news.

I had a wonderful person here today to look at my yard - someone who would do the work. And there is MUCH that needs to be done! Years of neglect, and it's been years since I planted anything new - so it all needs to go away and start over. And be done by someone who knows what he's doing. The man today was fantastic! I have another person coming tomorrow. Both will give me estimates. Both come highly recommended by the garden center. Then I will have to choose.

I think I am going to bed, then set alarm to wake up for Pope Francis's funeral, which I think is being televised in our country, I hope on a network that my TV antenna gets.
