The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument, originating from the Indian subcontinent, used in Hindustani classical music. The instrument was invented in the 18th century, and arrived at its present form in 19th-century India. Khusrau Khan, an 18th-century figure of the Mughal Empire has been identified by modern scholarship as the inventor of the sitar. According to most historians, he developed the sitar from the setar, an Iranian instrument of Abbasid or Safavid origin.

Used widely throughout the Indian subcontinent, the sitar became popularly known in the wider world through the works of Ravi Shankar, beginning in the late 1950s and early 1960s.The advent of psychedelic culture during the mid-to-late 1960s set a trend for the use of the sitar in Western popular music, with the instrument appearing on tracks by bands such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Metallica and many others.

Helian, your DMum is very fortunate now you're nearby and able to advocate for her.

Gma, that is a lot to deal with for you and DDog, but, as you say, it's all treatable, and with your medical knowledge and background I think DDog has the very best person to give her every day care.

Laura, you've received excellent advice on how to introduce Casper to your DGS. I don't have anything to add (I've not had dogs for years!) except to reiterate GMA's advice of never leaving them alone together, even when he's holder (toddlers can pull ears and tails and poke with their little fingers and, understandably, many dogs don't like this!)

Bama, that appears to be a frequent complaint -the pet food manufacturers make a product that is designed to fulfil a need ... and then the animals refuse to eat it.

Dogged, I can understand Germane disliking children - Freddie doesn't like them either. (He was abused by a toddler in his first "home" as a kitten) .

Yesterday was very good, but very full. The weather was beautiful, so I ran lots of errands in town. DH make bacon sandwiches for lunch (we had got some proper "butchers bacon" with out meat box, and it did taste good!) and then I spent the afternoon and most of the evening in the garden. So, I trimmed the bits o. The hedge, weeded and deadheaded, fed the pots, cut the grass and sprayed the roses. The forecast for today is wet, so I really wanted to make the most of a beautiful dry day.

Today, DH is meeting DBIL (day trip only!) and some friends. I'm meeting DFs HT and R, and some others for a meal this evening at a restaurant out of town. Fortunately, I'm giving SR a lift, so we can get lost together! I'll print out the directions, so she can be navigator. I'll need to get some prep for Sunday lunch done before I leave (I have bought DH"S favourite coffee ice cream for dessert and we have plenty nif cake left, so I don't need to bake this week, which will save me time), but it's really just a case of taking some meat out of the freezer and prepping the veg. Not sure what else to do , it's drizzling ATM, so will probably leave cleaning the car unless it clears up (next week is supposed to be dry and warm,.so might be better to do it then?) . In any case, there is plenty to keep me occupied round the house!

Thanks for the start, kittykatt. Good of your DH to spend time with his brother without you being involved in any way. How nice to have a dinner with friends, with a bit of road adventure in the mix.

I hope to CUOP. The week at payroll was shorter (due to Easter Monday being a bank holiday), and the next two will be short as well with May 1st, and then May 8th being VE-day, so both Thursdays away from work. Drizzly Saturday but tomorrow should be sunny.
MrNG is starting to be a bit desperate about his job search, not wanting to do the jobs he has done in the past, not managing to get interviews for jobs he would like to do instead (social care management) - he has all the skills and can prove it, but in France for some jobs you have to have the specific diploma, so his resume ends up at the bottom of the pile. He's trying to enlarge his network by meeting people in the social care field. He has been contemplating spending two years to get the diploma but the curriculum involves many things he has already trained for, he thinks he wouldn't stay motivated for two whole years, he hopes to find "shortcuts" / getting hired by using windows rather than doors, sort of.
DS9 is at athletics practice, his DF L--'s mum is driving them there today. DS6 has helped me dice 1 kg of rhubarb I bought at the market yesterday evening.

Good morning, FFB! Your rhubarb dicing has reminded me I should out rhubarb non next week's shot list, and also that I've got some cooking apples I need to "deal with" and freeze.

I can quite understand Mr NG not wanting to spend 2 years getting a diploma when he already has much of the experience anyway, but that he needs somehow to get a "foot in to door". Over here, "on the job" training or "day release" (where you go to the local FE College, or even the University to study a day or two a week while working) is becoming popular in many fields.

Also, are there any local charities that do the kind of thing Mr NG is interested in ? Maybe if he was able to start volunteering for them, it might lead to paid employment? (And even if it didn't lead directly to paid employment.with the charity, it would be something very useful to be able to put on his CV).

I'm up, showered and dressed, and I've PUPA upstairs and given the bedrooms a very quick dust. I think the rain *may* have stopped, so although it's going to be very soggy underfoot, I expect Freddie will want his walk. DH has been launched for his day out, and next I need to tackle downstairs. Maybe before that though, I could pick out my outfit for this evening and hang everything together? That will save time later on!

Frenchie, crossing my fingers that MrNiceGuy manages to find an open window! Would volunteering at the right kind of places maybe give him an opening? Also, are you taking any of the coming Fridays off, and, are kids actually having the Fridays off? Here, two of my kids' schools do have Fridays off the next two weeks, but DS13's' school doesn't. We're still pulling him out next Friday for our four day trip, though!
It's gonna be a lovely weekend in the garden, isn't it, kittykatt?

It is lovely here too, sunny, if a bit cold. Sleep-in was slightly shorter today, because today's the spring village collection of dangerous waste, and I had a small box of dated plant medicine that I needed to dispose of safely. The truck is only there for an hour every spring and every fall, so you have to be ready! The nearby town has a collection site that's open year round, but they only allow drop off by proof of residence, so we are out of luck there. DH's taking the kids' bikes to be serviced before our cycling trip next week (it should have been done long ago, because now it's causing unnecessary stress, but he's not really good about planning things at home and I had too much on my plate to keep track of it) and I still haven't decided if I actually want to go to the garden store (he has my car) that closes at 1pm. I could always go on Monday, because I will be working from home, though.

Good morning, Trissie ! (It's still just morning here ) You're very organised getting all the expired plant meds OTD and onto the truck. Is the garden centre trip for the red gooseberry bush?

I've taken Fred out and done the bins, and tonight's outfit is now hanging up. Oh, and Ibe finally remembered at a socially acceptable time to text SW about parish lunch. Next, I need to run round with a duster and the hoover downstairs.
