The King of the Pippins or Reine des Reinettes (French), Goldparmäne, Wintergoldparmäne (German) is an old cultivar of domesticated apple originating from France, and is still used in its original form as well as in many derivative cultivars that have been bred from it. It was also formerly known as Golden Winter Pearmain, because of its ripening period at late autumn. Unlike most apple cultivars it is slightly self-fertile.

It earned the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society in 1993.

Good morning, kittykatt! You're up early today!

I am up early (though not as early, giving my time zone) too. I didn't do my taxes last night, because I was just too exhausted The income part of taxes is pretty easy here, that would be about 5-10 minutes, but I own a rental property and need to do the accounting for that. I did it last weekend, but need to double check everything (some costs are born by tenant, some by me) and then I can use the one figure from that as input for my own tax return.

Everybody in the house is still sleeping... while I do envy them, it will also make working easier!

trissie you're a brave woman, attacking taxes so early in the morning. But better work on it while you can have some quiet, for sure !

kittykatt, thanks for the start, I sometimes buy Reine des Reinettes because they're great apples for baking, and we love baked apples here. I hope you have a good time at church today.

1st of May is a national off day, but unlike others where you can still find a few shops open, at least in the morning, it is totally forbidden to have employees work on the 1st of May or Labour Day. Yesterday evening the shops were full - of people - and empty - of everything you may want to eat on a beautiful hot day, like barbecue meats : several people at payroll went shopping during their lunch break, hoping to find skewered meats or barbecue meat pieces, and didn't find any. I wanted to buy bread yesterday on the way back, and the bakery was out of bread. I didn't want to drive around as I suspected others bakery would have run out too. (Fortunately we have bread in the freezer and MrNG had bought some in the morning, for sandwiches today)
It's the same every year, but made worse by the beautiful weather : lots of people took Friday off to enjoy a mini four day vacation, planned family meals and barbecues and such.
We're going on a small family hike, I need to prepare sandwiches and bag some crisps and water, so that when the kids wake up, we can be on the go easily.

Good morning, Frenchie! It's Labour Day (bank holiday) here, so - the shops are open. Next Thursday, on Victory day (also bank holiday), the shops will be closed. This is the first year I actually know when you can go shopping and when you can't. It's stipulated by law that's been in effect for a couple years and the division makes no sense whatsover, so before every bank holiday I have to look it up, but last year somebody told me that people in sales celebrate Labour Day by labouring, and that knowledge stuck
Are you off work tomorrow?

Done with taxes, yay! On to other stuff.

Ugh, I love my DH and he's really good in a lot of things, but sometimes he's part of the problem and not part of the solution! He's had a slow morning of sitting and playing a game on his cellphone while I have been running around since dark o hundred, and soon he's gonna start yelling at kids to speed up. Hon, that's not how it's done when half of your kids have attention deficit disorder and the other half is borderline! And that's the story of our lives every single morning (since he's the one taking DBD and DS and lately also DtDT). And I am not even talking about the small issue of loading six bikes into my van.

I was too late to save my lists and such, but in the end, things are what they are. To be frank, my routines and my house fell apart, and I'm in dear need for this place and this phase of my life to come back to me. So Trissie, thank you sooo much for pulling me back <3

Germany has a national holiday today as well. It's Labour Day here, shops and such is closed. We were supposed to flee our home for a long weekend getaway, which we had to cancel - our car broke down on Monday evening, resulting ina probably costly repair which will only be happening next week the earliest due to the repair shopes everywhere being slammed. So I want to use these days to catch up on being behind and maybe recreate the first tender tendrils of routines.

As far as today goes, I managed to Tada's
- load and start dishwasher
- rewash lol#1/2, hang
- restart lol#2/2
- water what I newly planted this [namely two bushes of blueberry, one planter of mint, a freshly created strawberry patch]

And noooow, I gotta go lol, both my dishwasher and my washer beeped their sign that they're done

not strictly going for threes, neccessarily, but
- hang laundry
- restart laundry ( I'm being verrry behind on laundry)
- unload, reload, start dishwasher ( my kitchen is a desaster)
- unfridge and restart sourdough starter
- unearth my sink
- breakfast

Good morning, Trissie, FFB and Featherball!

Enjoy your long weekend, Trissie. My DH is very good at getting himself packed,... while I do everything else!

FFB, that's very interesting about your bank holiday. We will celebrate "May day" with a bank holiday on Monday, along with VE Day. (I know it's not technically the correct date, and some events will take place in the day itself - such is the usual UK way in compromise! ) Also, our street party will be at the end of May this year, as DF CW has to work this weekend (she's a nurse). We're going to get together over coffee to plan - so far I've been out in charge of the invitations, and also finding the bunting that was put in a "safe place" after our last party!

Featherball, so very good to "see" you! How are you doing, and the DKids?

Bama, Freddie quickly recovers his equanimity when he gets home after he's headed to the food cupboard and been rewarded with biscuit for being a "good boy" (My standards for "good" are low! )

Laura, have you tried a top opening carrier for Stella? The bigger gap makes it a lot easier, plus you have gravity on your side!

It's another beautiful day - we have county council elections, and DH is PO at our local polling station, hence the early start. He was up at 0 dark hundred, with me close behind. I've used the extra time by doing a little in my front garden will everything was still quiet, and then getting to church early and hoovering the car (I took the cordless with me). And ordered some photos using this month's "free "allocation.

Feathers! So glad you found us! The old boards still appear to be up, so maybe you could still get your lists? Or create new ones, I bet life's brought some new challenges since! How old are your kiddos now? I know one of them will be 8 soon, that would be number 3, right?

There's now some swearing at the driveway, apparently the "it's gonna be easy to load the bikes" is not going as easy. Oh well, not my problem till I am asked for help

Time to catch a break. And or a breath, I guess.

Time's a flying, right. The kids are DS12, DD10, DD7 (almost 8, June, right, Trissie lol) and DS5. Two are in (let's call it) middle school, both in our most advanced school system, which makes us proud. DD8 is struggeling a little in Grade 2, but hopefully she'll outgrow it. DS5 is in kindergarten for one more year.

In the beginning of this year, I closed my store. It just simply wasn't doing great, and it's been so much work without the reward, so many sacrifices. I'm good with that decision. I am working in our counties municipal administrtation. And it's okay. It's a good job, decent enough pay and much less trouble. Still have a nightmarish aftermath of the store I need to conquer this month, but this weekend will be for me mostly. Adding to the braindump in a little.

Trissie, thanks for the tip, the board is there. I'ma try to steal as much as I can, Sure they need tweaking, but the main issues are still the same for me. So it'll be a lot of help. I wonder if I can download my own thread... Is there a section here where I can write my diary and such ?
