The Spartan is an cultivated variety or cultivar of apple developed by R. C Palmer and introduced in 1936 from the Federal Agriculture Research Station in Summerland, British Columbia, now known as the Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre - Summerland. The Spartan is notable for being the first new breed of apple produced from a formal scientific breeding programme.

This apple was initially believed to be a cross between two North American cultivars, the McIntosh and the Newtown Pippin, but subsequent genetic analysis revealed that the Newtown Pippin was not one of the parents. The identity of this parent remains a mystery. The Spartan is considered a good all-purpose apple. The apple is of medium size and has a bright-red blush, but can have background patches of greens and yellows.

Gma, I did read that a low fat diet may be helpful for dogs with pancreatitis. Over here are several special foods aimed at helping dogs with this condition, especially Royal Canin Gastrointestinal low fat dog food, in both dry and wet forms, which is specifically recommended for dogs with this condition (as well as other medical conditions).

Royal Canin is supposed.to be exceptionally palatable, (Freddie will eat their GI wet cat food when he is poorly and won't eat anything else!) and I've checked and it's available in I. the USA, but, the big question still is, of course, whether DDog would eat it?

Early start for church today, as we're doing the coffees after the service and need to set up beforehand. It looks like another beautiful day.

Good morning kittykat and thanks for firing us up !

I already restarted my laundry and got down to pick up where I left off yesterday. Still so very behind on anything and everything.

But two bottles of lemonade got mixed yesterday and I already started on my sourdough discard cinnamon roll muffins (what a word !!), so hopefully I get a win today ?

Oh and after many many fails I finally pulled a really good sourdough bread from my oven last night. I had good loafs before and suddenly fail after fail, I was so devasteted. I keep looking at it lol. It's feeding us Monday and Tuesday new loaf needs to be baked Tuesday....

Featherball, it's nice to see that you weren't lost in cyberspace while we moved in here Thank you for the reminder to things that bring us joy. It is something that is troubling me - all week long at payroll I look forward to the weekend, and then Friday night or Satruday arrives and I don't know how I want to spend that time with my family. I do chores and administrative stuff I don't have time for during the week, but then... Not sure what would actually bring me joy. Maybe during those years of parenting young kids I lost some part of myself along the way ? Not sure how to find it. I'm not depressed (I think) but I seem to have forgotten how I enjoyed spending time, before kids. Any suggestions ?

Grey and a bit rainy, the afternoon should be sunnier, it's much colder, and slugs or snails have feasted on one of the three zucchini plants MrNG put into the soil this past week. He has sown three more zucchini, but it's annoying.
DS9 was gone with his best friend A-- for a while. i cooked a few things for lunch and dinner. a neighbour offered a large box of tomatoes that he was given for some reason. They are "winter" tomatoes so not really tasty, probably from Spain, grown under layers of plastic - but it's nice anyway. There must be at least 3 kgs, maybe 4 or 5. We are going to cook tomato sauce I think.

Your sourdough bread sounds delicious, Featherball!

FFB, could you make a list of things (even tiny things) that you used to enjoy doing Before Children, and see if any of them still appeal? And then, you may have to "make an appointment" with yourself (in the same way that you would with anyone else) to ensure you actually get the time to do it.

Back from church - a smaller congregation today, probably due to the long weekend, but still a good service. The coffees went smoothly, and I'm not meeting DF E today, as she is going out for lunch. We have sun again today, but it's cooler.

kittykatt, thanks. Yes, this is something I've been thinking about. Only it seems I don't remember how those things brought me joy. I enjoyed stitching and sewing and painting and reading. I have started reading again, after months of not finding any book I enjoyed, I've read a few books entirely, and started some. Actually the only thing I have kept enjoying all these years and enjoyed more and more is the gardening. But some days it's less appealing than others, and not only because of the weather.
Maybe Featherball's advice is not just about hobbies but also about taking the time to go slowly doing things for myself... LIke, not rushing to have a shower but sometimes enjoying it more slowly.

Hi L.Ann, WTG tackling DD32's bedroom ! I've searched Mexicali soup. Interesting, and a vegetarian version seems easy. Thanks, iI'm always looking at your menus to find inspiration and new ideas !

The rain has stopped. We may go to the seaside with DS9's best friend A---, or maybe he will go with his parents and meet us there, still to be decided.
Lunch was good. Both kids tasted the asparagus, DS6 loves them.
