Re: Waldorf salad Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
A Waldorf salad is a fruit and nut salad generally made of celery, fresh apples, walnuts, and grapes, dressed in mayonnaise, and traditionally served on a bed of lettuce as an appetizer or a light meal. The apples, celery, and grapes can all be green, which harmonizes the color palette of the dish.
Waldorf salad is named for the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City, where it was first created for a charity ball given in honor of the St. Mary's Hospital for Children on March 13, 1896. The Waldorf-Astoria's maître d'hôtel, Oscar Tschirky, developed or inspired many of the hotel's signature dishes and is widely credited with creating the salad recipe. In 1896, the salad appeared in The Cook Book by "Oscar of the Waldorf".
The original recipe was just apples, celery, and mayonnaise. It did not contain nuts, but they had been added by the time the recipe appeared in The Rector Cook Book in 1928.
Other ingredients such as chicken, turkey, and dried fruit (e.g., dates or raisins) are sometimes added. Updated versions of the salad sometimes change the dressing to a seasoned mayonnaise or a yogurt dressing. Modern Waldorf salad may also include the zest of oranges and/or lemons. Variations include a peanut butter and yogurt base, and one that replaces celery with cauliflower.

Re: Waldorf salad Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. Waldorf salad is yummy!
Sleep well, Gma - you had a very busy day!
Helian, it so good your DMum is receiving such comprehensive care, which will hopefully improve her quality of life.
L.Ann and Dogged, WTG on your lists!
Bama, so good that your drive is done. Sometimes watching other people work can be tiring
So, things moved fast yesterday with my gutters. BG rang less than an hour after I had messaged ,and asked if they could come today at 8am!!!
I asked a few questions and he asked some too, and they do seem to know the area. So, I've moved everything off the patio in preparation (and some of those pots are heavy! ) and moved everything off the back steps, so with all the running up and down steps and carrying heavy pots, I got both aerobic and weight training exercise yesterday!
Fortunately, this morning is dry so far, if somewhat chilly, but I'm sure it will soon warm up, as the sun is shining.

Outstanding deliveries: eBay
Extras:
Digital decluttering- Google Photos for 2024 and 2025
Pick up my footprints
House tasks: clean gutters and the swan neck on the downpipes where "stuff" tends to accumulate, clean cladding back and front and downpipes, and short return wall as well. Replace the bit of mortar that's fallen out of the edge of the roof (I think its called the verge? Can this wait until next year when we get the house painted when a roof ladder will be up anyway?) , fix dripping kitchen tap ( new washer?), sort out cabinet that wobbles, fix garage guttering that's loose at one end and bending down. More as I think of them?
I may have to split the jobs between different people this year if I can't find someone who's good at a variety of skills, so:
For gutter cleaning, Dneighbours R and A used Ben's gutters -are they pleased with the work? Chatted to R yesterday -yes they are pleased, also said that BG seem to be here a lot on our neighbourhood
Does BG also clean cladding? Do they have a website? Yes to both
Also The E Gutter Cleaners -they have good reviews
Prepare my "job spec"
Fill in free quote forms for both the above companies
Wait and see the results!
Kitchen tap - DF E has given me the phone number of her plumber . I think DF CW also has a plumber she is happy with?
Garage gutter -probably something for a handyman - text /message a few likely people. Does Dneighbour R2 do handyman type jobs? I know he's done work for Dneighbour R in the past, but that was larger jobs, like laying a path!
Pick a new podiatrist from my "short list"
Book an appointment ! (22/5)
Take up and hem those thick winter curtains for the kitchen
Book eye test for me
Find picture hanging equipment for DH
Sort prints and put in albums (this will probably be an activity to do on wet days!) WIP I am now working on 2024
Think about setting up Guardianship for F,J and M - looked on Cats' Protection, I need their microchip numbers, approximate DOB, colour and markings and useful information about them. Bookmark link with local recommended solicitors (also ask DF CW?)
Change health centres to the one nearest us? On hold ATM , but I'll leave it on my list so I don't forget.

Re: Waldorf salad Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Morning all. I think I've heard about that salad but didn't really know what it was.
Yikes that's early and fast notice from workmen kittykat.
Helian I hope they can straighten everything out for your mom and she can feel better. And thrive in her new place.
Wednesday. Wow. I need a reboot on my energy. I could go back to bed. I think a mixture project and rest day is in order. As prep for tomorrow. We have a long day in store. Dh is under the weather. He could come along with us but he hates the city. My friend said she'd come but it looks like she's booking up. Pastors wife said she would but I'm unsure ds would be relaxed and comfortable with that. Maybe? I could do it myself but I have to leave at 6 and still have to Google where to go in the city. Then the process goes from 9 till 2 or so. Not all of it involves ds. They must have somewhere ds can be but it sure would be easier to have dh along.
Today, bible study. I need to finish outside. Pick up a few things in town. And see what else I get to.
Priority list
Basic routines
Kitchen clean
Bible study
Some Piano time ( severely neglected)
Change sheets
Work on raking
Spray my front flower bed plan(if dry)
Plan trip for tomorrow
Today's tada list
Shower
S&s both baths and fold laundry
Take sheets off bed and wash
Empty and reload dw
Talk to ds about tomorrow
School run

Re: Waldorf salad Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, sweet friends!
Trissie, thanks for the start. I hope your day is going well.
I’ve never really cared for any type of dressing on fruit until the past few years, I guess my taste buds are changing or gotten bored with the usual foods. I should find a good restaurant that makes Waldorf salad and give it a try.
Kittykatt, cheers on finding specialized handymen for each topic, and improving your home.
Give extra neck scratches to Freddie, Jude and Matilda from me.
Helia, I hope you’re able to relax more with dmom’s care and gotten the UA sample/testing put to rest.
Laura, hope your plans all smooth out for you.
LAnn, good luck with your list. I finally ordered my first Shutterfly photos bc of you. I just got 100 photos made from my phone copied, now to date and put in “shoebox”, delete from phone if not needed, (I do have the cloud but it’s not totally reliable from my experience) for now, baby bites.
It is wet and rainy today, a soft steady rain, good for all the plants we’ve planted lately. I will focus on the inside of the house and spend time in each room decluttering. We have our own stuff, our two girls stuff who aren’t living here although dd21 may move back after graduation next year to work on her masters, my aunts stuff, my moms stuff, and dh’s mom and brothers stuff, the last four passed away most recently and it was just too much to handle/process so we packed it all in. Mom has a manufactured home on our property but I did bring some more sentimental items home with me, she left her home to the girls which they’ve filled up with more stuff as have I (one room is all children’s toys and crafts from when they were smaller, I’d like to keep some for grands but do I need it all?)… just a lot to deal with physically and emotionally so I’m not rushing to be totally organized, it will happen. I took last year off for a mental break and to grieve, now I’m working on focus, intent, making a life I love to spend the rest of my days. Enough rambling…
