Re: Vermicelli Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
So, there's no "W" pasta, and we'll have to settle for a "V" pasta instead!
Vermicelli (/ˌvɜːrmɪˈtʃɛli, -ˈsɛli/, UK: /ˌvɛərmɪˈtʃɛli/; Italian: [vermiˈtʃɛlli], literally "little worms"), is a traditional type of pasta round in section similar to spaghetti. In English-speaking regions it is usually thinner than spaghetti, while in Italy it is thicker. It is typically made with semolina.
As defined in Italy, the diameters of spaghetti-like pasta are:
vermicelli
between 2.08 and 2.14 millimetres (0.082–0.084 in), with little variation between different producers.
spaghetti
between 1.92 and 2.00 millimetres (0.076–0.079 in).
vermicellini
(lit. 'thin vermicelli') between 1.75 and 1.80 millimetres (0.069–0.071 in).
fedelini
between 1.37 and 1.47 millimetres (0.054–0.058 in).
capellini or capelli d'angelo
(lit. 'little hair' or 'angel's hair') between 0.8 and 0.9 millimetres (0.031–0.035 in).
In the United States, the National Pasta Association (which has no links with its Italian counterpart, the Unione Industriali Pastai Italiani lists vermicelli as a thinner type of spaghetti.
The Code of Federal Regulations of the United States of America defines spaghetti and vermicelli by diameter:
vermicelli
less than 0.06 inches (1.5 mm).
spaghetti
between 0.06 and 0.11 inches (1.5–2.8 mm).

Re: Vermicelli Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. How fascinating that vermicelli has a precise width definition. I've always thought of it as just "thin spaghetti"
(apologies to those who are more educated than I am!
)
L.Ann, I would love to have a "proper" dining room. At present, we have a "lounge diner", but we do also have a table and chairs in the kitchen,.so we can eat there as well.
Helian, thinking back to when I was a child,.my parents, like many, had a dining room, with a table with leaves that you pulled out to accommodate extra guests. I remember that that children who were considered to be "well behaved" were also seated at the table, but I do t know what happened with the rest! (Maybe in the kitchen? Or even outside?
I do remember that you were expected to sit up straight, use a knife and fork properly, not talk with your mouth full, and ask permission before leaving the table!!!)
Bama, Mamma Mia has been rescheduled for this evening. Yesterday was so beautiful, that I had a couple of hours sitting in my garden to finish my book. So, by the time I had finally finished the sitting room it was getting late
Gma, I hope the vet visit was a positive one.
Today is another sunny day, and I would like to be more productive , although it was good to sit and read for a time yesterday! Main aims today are to clean the kitchen, go for a walk and have some garden time.

Good morning, sweet friends!

Trissie, I shall never think of vermicelli the same again, and it could sub as worm Wednesday I guess.
Kittykatt, reading in the garden sounds as good as or even better than a movie.
Just peeking in for a minute…

Re: Vermicelli Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Bama!
Helian, I've been reading, and found a recent article about the Lucy Letby case, where eminent medics question the safety of her convictions. I thought you might find it interesting.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/202 ... overturned
We have another beautiful sunny day. Freddie has had his walk, but I think I might leave mine until later on, as I dont want to be outside in the midday sun. I've been off- list this morning, working on my wardrobe. Ive finally persuaded myself it's time to let go of the dress I wore for our 25th wedding anniversary, and also the dress I've worn to weddings in the past. I have photos when I'm wearing them, so I'll still have the memories. I've tried with on this morning, and they are no longer flattering , as I've gained weight in the last 10 years, and they now emphasise parts I would rather hide! It's coming up to summer ball time at the university, so I'll advertise them in the "free" section of Nextdoor, and if there aren't any takers after a week or so, I'll drop them off at one of the charity shops.
I got interrupted -three workmen in orange uniforms have turned up unannounced to look at Dnextdoorneighbour C 's fibre install, which still isn't complete after nearly 8 months. So far, they have taken photos, one has swung on the road sign ( which isn't designed for that kind of treatment!) and the third is systematically kicking DF CW's grass. ( Presumably at the thought of having to dig a trench through clay again, when it's been dry for several weeks)
The first one is now having an animated phone call with someone else in some foreign language (I don't think it's Romanian, possibly Polish?)
Anyway, I've also PUPA, dusted and hoovered upstairs, so I now need to attack the kitchen, but first, lunch!

Re: Vermicelli Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
trissie, we always have vermicelli bowls when we go to Vietnamese restaurants. I thought it was a Vietnamese type of pasta! LOL! I hope payroll is going well.
Your parents' dinner parties with children sound very proper and orderly, Kitty.
I feel like ours with our own children were less so -- but I'm thinking of when we lived in Texas and the kids were very small. My BFF KY and I were having babies at the same time, and we would get the families together regularly for dinners. Both families were having kids fairly close together - her first 2 are 15 months apart; our first 2 are 18 months apart. Our kids were all fairly close together in age; I had 3 and she eventually had 4. So, we were having dinner parties with up to 6 kids (before her 4th) ages infant - 6yo. Not so orderly -- but we all loved being together! And sometimes the adults wanted adult time, so we might put the older kids who could feed themselves independently at a separate table and keep the younger ones with us to feed them, likely 1 or 2 in high chairs. I'm sure it was barely controlled chaos! LOL! All the kids at the table with the adults happened more as they got older. --Enjoy your time outside in the sunshine!
See you later, Bama.
Happy errands L Ann.
Last night, we didn't get home until almost 10 pm. It was a lovely dinner, lots of animated conversation. Once home, I put clean towels back up in the MBR. I had done a load of them late in the afternoon; MBR was almost out.
Today, I'm teaching 1:30 - 3:30 and helping watch Fable 6-7. I'll also stop by and visit my mom after work, 4-5-ish. She might be super sleepy at that time as a therapist will work with her this morning. My class today will be both sections combined as the other teacher is sick today. I'll have a larger than usual class for our school. We're going to meet in the student lounge; I need to think about how to structure this.
