Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American singer, actress, film producer, model, and philanthropist. Commonly referred to as "the Voice", she is one of the most awarded performers of all time. As a cultural icon, her chart achievements and music videos influenced the breaking down of gender and racial barriers. Known for her vocal delivery and live performances, Houston was ranked second on Rolling Stone's list of the greatest singers of all time in 2023.

Houston signed to Arista Records at the age of 19. Her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), topped the Billboard 200 for 14 and 11 weeks, respectively. The former remains the best selling debut album by a solo artist in history, while the latter made her the first woman to debut atop the US and UK charts. Houston took a more urban turn with her third album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990), and performed an acclaimed rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Super Bowl XXV in 1991. The soundtrack of her film debut The Bodyguard (1992) won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, topped the Billboard 200 for 20 weeks, and remains the best-selling soundtrack album of all time. Its lead single, "I Will Always Love You", won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became the best-selling single by a woman in history. Houston continued her work in the film industry, including starring roles in Waiting to Exhale (1995), The Preacher's Wife (1996) and Cinderella (1997) and producing series such as The Princess Diaries and The Cheetah Girls. Soundtrack of The Preacher's Wife became the best-selling gospel album of all time.

Houston's first studio album in eight years, My Love Is Your Love (1998), found critical and commercial success, and she renewed her contract with Arista Records for $100 million in 2001, one of the largest recording deals of all time.[8] However, her drug use and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown tarnished her "America's Sweetheart" image, overshadowing her next album, Just Whitney (2002). After divorcing Brown, Houston returned to the top of the Billboard 200 with her final album, I Look to You (2009). On February 11, 2012, Houston accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California, with heart disease and cocaine use as contributing factors. News of her death coincided with the 2012 Grammy Awards and was covered internationally along with her memorial service.

Trissie, what time zone are you in? You are always posting "tomorrow" for me before I go to bed, so I know you must be east of CST. I'm in Alabama -- but I tell people I live on Elvis Standard Time -- I stay up much too late and sleep too late in the mornings. DH was a night owl too, and in the 12 years that I've been retired, I've really gotten into bad habits for sleep. But I don't have Elvis' money and I don't have an entourage to take care of all the business that has to be done during "normal" hours, so that makes things difficult sometimes!
Anyway -- just curious and thought I'd say hello before I sign off for the night. :)
Tomorrow is another day.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off.

WTG battling the government website I to submission and successfully applying for your pension, Dogged!

Helian,.I'm glad you enjoyed your Tuesday dinner with your friends.

LucyLee, how nice to "see* you. Trissie is in the Czech Republic, which is an hour ahead of me., here in the UK. I think I'm 6 hours ahead of CST, which would make Trissie 7 hours ahead of CST. The wonderful thing about these boards in is that they operate 24/7! :D

It rained overnight, and it's still raining. The rain will do the garden good, but I did enjoy all those glorious hot sunny days. 🌟

Today DH goes to the office, and I'm at home. It's a good chance to catch up on some indoor tasks, and there are also some admin jobs awaiting my attention.

Thanks, Kittykatt! Wow -- that's kinda amazing that we are all talking all across the world! So when I'm heading to bed at 3:00 a.m. CST, it's 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning for you and Trissie and your day is well underway!

I'm going to get in bed in just a little while -- it's 1:30 here in the Southeastern USA. I put a load of laundry in and I need to hang some of it to dry (don't want my jeans to shrink -- I always tumble my clothes a few minutes in the dryer and then hang them to dry.) Dgrands' clothes can dry in the dryer.

I'm also trying to keep up with a 60-day journal on loss so I need to look at that before I call it a day. (Night? Whatever.)

Hope you all have a great day!
Tomorrow is another day.

Gnight Lucylee! I'm in CST, and it's 2am here.
I love that we are in so many time zones, so many states, and so many countries!
Thanks for the start, trissie,
have a good day, kittykatt.

And waht a SHE I am tonight:
My mother wants chocolate cake for her birthday. My grandmother's recipe (her mother-in-law) is what I will need to take with to the cabin. It is in my recipe box. Which belong in my baking cupboard. But it wasn't there when I went to look for it. So I looked again. And again. And in the corner cupboard. And in the cereal cupboard. And in the porch were I have a bookcase with cookbooks. And in the cupboard where I keep my mugs. And in my bed on the remote chance that I had taken it to bed with me to look for the recipe before going to sleep.
After 2 hours of not finding the recipe BOX, the thought occurred to me that maybe I took the box up to my mother's house for some reason.
I went up there, found the box in less than 5 minutes, and there was my recipe, first one behind cakes, found in 30 seconds after finding the box.
Oh the hazzards of trying to live in 2 houses!
I have taken a picture of the recipe, so it's in my phone, and I have the recipe card in my wallet, so I won't forget it or lose it.

Dlittledog has eaten more chicken, and I have 2 thighs in the crock pot for overnight, for tomorrow morning. Unfortunately her pancreas enzymes are rising, which does not predict survival. However, we will give her every chance to overcome, as she still wags her tail and her eyes are bright.

Sleep well, LucyLee and Gma!

WTG finding that recipe, Gma, and what a smart idea to take a photo of it on your phone! So very sort to hear that DDog's enzymes continue to rise. However, it's good that she feels happy in herself. In my experience with Cara with a long term medical condition, the "numbers" are a *very* good indicator to the vet re disease progression, treatment protocols etc, but they are *not* always a good indicator of how the animal is feeling in his / herself. My DDeparted Andie had kidney disease, and she had a good quality of life (eating, drinking , playing with the others, asking for cuddles and chasing butterflies) right up until the end, when she suddenly wasn't any more, and we knew it was time. She was on a cocktail of medications and regular blood tests. One vet, who was a locum, and very correctly studied all her test results and medication etc before one of her appointments, blurted out, "With those figures she should have been dead six months ago!" But she went on to live very happily for another 6 months of excellent quality life, until one day she very clearly told us she had had enough. I think what I'm trying to say is that you know Tutsi very well, and will be able to gauge whether she is feeling "good in herself" still.

I've been doing a little sorting and planning this morning, but I really need to get moving and at least start to make the spare room ready for BIL. I'm really not going to have time tomorrow. It would be a a good idea to run the hoover and a duster round the rest of upstairs while I'm at it. And the rain looks as if it's easing, so maybe a walk for Freddie and a longer walk for me?
