Anti-Procrastination Wednesday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Wednesday has evolved into our anti procrastination day here - a chance to do something that been hanging about OMM and needs to be accomplished. How many things have you put off lately? Today is a chance to redeem yourself!

I've been putting off lunch with dcousin since before I went to VA back at the end of March. I also need to set aside an afternoon to go see dcousins of my father. The oldest turned 80 and her dd is my age and we spent time together growing up, although we always had very different interests. My father actually grew up with the mother of the 80 year old and was very close to her. There are pics of me and the one my age in diapers together - and she was named after my dmom. That's next week I hope, but today is maternal dfirst cousin J who I try to keep up with. I'm seized with a panic when I continually put off seeing her because her health hasn't been good and I feel like she could go down suddenly. Same w 80 year old dcousin of dad's.

Two more anti-procrastination tasks: drop off an Amazon return, and take the copies of a genealogy booklet (remember when I laboriously printed the thing in the spring?) to be bound.

And I'm getting body work (i.e. myofascial massage) this morning at ten, so gotta get moving!

Good morning!

Twins - Thank you for the start today. I needed a reminder that today is a good day to focus on those pesky procrastination tendencies I have.
I need to quit ignoring those tasks and just do them.

My morning is off to a good start. We don't have anything on the calendar for today (celebrating that!!) and have an open day to mostly do as we want. Raising teens always has some daily responsibility and comes with to-do's so there is that aspect of my life that will fill some of my time.

The weather people are working hard for their moments in the spotlight. Their repeat drama about nothing leads to lack of trust in anything they say. When I look at "just the facts" data online, it shows .03" of rain is expected Thursday night around midnight.

TaDA's -
18 SHE cards completed

I was outside wiping down the interior of vehicle when DBro and DSisIL drove by. They stopped by for an impromptu chat. The 6 of us stood in a circle outside talking for more than 30 minutes. Being around them is always fun and filled with lighthearted laughter. We made tentative plans to get together in the near future.

I need food plans. I didn't pull meat out of the freezer this morning so what am I going to cook? Teenagers being hungry is real issue that needs frequent attention. hum....

Back from getting my haircut and doing a grocery run. I cut about 4 inches off and now it looks like my hair is gonna be curly. I’m not surprised. I wanted it this way before, but when I was in Arizona with no humidity.

So it’s embrace the curls.

Not much I can do around the house. It looks like it won’t be finished until next the end of next week.

So sorry the kitchen project is taking awhile, RR. From my standpoint, it's been remarkably quick! Of course, we were redoing so much and putting island in a slightly different area.

Glad you had fun with dbro and dsis, LadyM. Sounds very enjoyable. Are you still enjoying the new vehicle?

Sounds as though you've been busy, Nancy, WTG on the anti-procrastination tasks!

Obviously I'm home from lunch out. Also went to UPS store for the return drop off and it needed to go to Staples. After l lunch went to staples with material that needs to be bound and return. Found a holder for the pool permit, will return if pool chairperson doesn't need it. And went to CVS to choose another moisturizer for very dry skin - I can only conclude that my current body moisturizer may be causing a rash or discoloration on my skins. I'll pick up the bound info tomorrow.

Once home dh is asleep in front of TV and ddog insists (by barking loudly in my ear) that I must walk her. So that's done. I'm in a bit of a mood also.

-----------

A little later...DPC to caterer made and they will get back to me with a proposal.

Dh has left for a massage. I think it's supposed to be for 90 minutes.

I continue to fail in teaching kids to keep a clean bedroom and be responsible for doing things. The older kids that I raised have learned how to overcome - DS51 by having a housekeeper clean as well as a wife that hires people to organize their home. DD49 deals with stuff by periodically throwing everything away....or just moving and leaving everything behind. She doesn't like to wash dishes, so she solved that by throwing all dishes away and only having disposable silverware, plates, and cups in her home.

I have tried several methods to teach children that I raised, and each method works for a period of time. It isn't that the kids don't know how to organize & clean. The issue is they don't take ownership of doing things without being told. My current method is to text 3 things a day to each teen to do. It is a simple & easy way to keep them making progress, but it doesn't solve the big issue - they don't take responsibility & ownership of taking care of their stuff. Today's text are...
Text sent to DS16 -
3 things -
** change your bed sheets. There is a new sheet in the hall closet. Put dirty sheet in laundry basket
** clean your toilet
** take metal dog feeders to Lashai
If you need help with any of these ....just ask

Text sent to DD14 -
3 things -
** change your bed sheets. There is a new sheet in the hall closet. Put dirty sheet in laundry basket
** clean your toilet
** make red lobster cheddar biscuits
If you need help with any of these ....just ask

I do realize there is one common thing between all the kids I've raised over the past 5 decades. Me. The failure point comes back to me.
Just acknowledging the facts. It seems like I would have found that child raising instruction book by now and have it all figured out. Nope.

Twins', I have a similar situation with one cousin in particular. I was youngest and she oldest of 12 on paternal side and I don't keep up well with her health. For one thing, right now I am not ready to have these health conversations with any except the closest long-term relationships, BUT it is important to remember that we are not promised we'll have each other forever, now are we.

Nancy, it is a worry whenever we see wounded wildlife. Nothing you can do to help, and you wonder how painful something is... ..

HRH had to have an urgent-ish dental appt today, and I actually went with him. The dentist took some extra time and just did the work today, a blessing since now HRH won't have to worry about it until some future appt. I think maybe he capped a tooth - anyway, looks fine, feels fine. We picked up that script on the way home, at drive-through window.

He kept forgetting that just because it was his appt and he was nervous, didn't mean I wasn't still as slow walking as usual. Lol! We have traded off who is faster than whom for our whole marriage. At first, he was walking so much at work that I never kept up when he was with me. Later when he went through his treatments I was slowing for him. Today I realized I needed to take his arm at times just to remind him, not too fast!

Now that I'm home, I'm trying out my new step-in walking shoes. They are wider which may ultimately make me feel more confident, especially around the house - we'll see. A disappointment is how high the heel is. That doesn't seem so smart. Until I get used to that, I won't be wearing them out into the world.

I started my day by playing online as well as checking my usual websites and emails. After dh woke up I made him a coffee. After that I went to a "Senior Showcase" at a local arena. Mostly a lot of nursing homes advertising their places. Other places promoting accessible transportation. I stopped at each of these. Another place was trying to sell ramps and they insisted that even a one inch high doorway needs one of their ramps. I told them a piece of plywood would do the trick but I took their literature any way. Now I have a bag with a bunch pf papers that dh said he would look through.

After that I went to a massive used book sale. They claim to have 33,000 used books this year. I came home with 12 books. The only doubles were to replace paperbacks with hardcovers. I did take 4 pages of lists with me.

It was probably close to 100 F here today. Very, very windy.
