And now to something completely different :-)

The Tibetan Mastiff is a large Tibetan dog breed. Its double coat is medium to long, subject to climate, and found in a wide variety of colors, including solid black, black and tan, various shades of red (from pale gold to deep red) and bluish-gray (dilute black), and sometimes with white markings around its neck, chest and legs. According to the American Kennel Club, male Tibetan Mastiffs have a weight of 40-70 kg (90-150 lbs) while females are 30-55 kg (70-120 lbs).

The term mastiff was assigned by the Europeans who first came to Tibet because that name was used to refer to nearly all large dog breeds in the West. Early Western visitors to Tibet misnamed several of its breeds, such as the Tibetan terrier, which is not a terrier, and the Tibetan spaniel, which is not a spaniel. A better name for the breed might be the Tibetan mountain dog or—to encompass the landrace breed throughout its range—the Himalayan mountain dog.

As a flock guardian dog in Tibet, and in the West, it uses all the usual livestock guardian tactics (e.g., barking, scent-marking perimeters) to warn away predators and avoid direct confrontations.

As a socialized, more domestic dog, it can thrive in a spacious, fenced yard with a canine companion, but it is not an appropriate dog for apartment living. The Western-bred dogs are generally more easy-going, although still somewhat aloof with strangers. Through hundreds of years of selective breeding for a protective flock and family guardian, the breed has been prized for being a nocturnal sentry, keeping would-be predators and intruders at bay, and barking at unidentified sounds throughout the night. Leaving a Tibetan Mastiff outside all night with neighbors nearby is not recommended. They often sleep during the day, making them more active, alert, and aware at night.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for another "doggy" start!

KitKat -It wonder if DPup's tummy is slightly.upser.due.to a reaction to the anaesthetic? Freddie has also had some tummy issues this past week - I checked
the statement from the vet, and one of the drugs they used on him was very slight different this time (sedator, instead of the usual domitor) . I checked and they appear to have the same active ingredient, but maybe there was something different in the "carrier" which upset him? IDK. He was also given extra ketamine just before his hips were positioned for the x-rays, so that might be the culprit? My medical knowledge isni good enough to reach any conclusions, but it's something I'll mention to the vet at his next appointment on the 24th.

Gma, the ways of councils.are hard to determine. Common sense definitely.doesmt come into it. The main road into our city that was recently.closed.for.6. weeks is going to be closed again. This time.for drainage work. Why doesn't the council involved tell the utility.co.panies.to.work.tofetjwr.with their scheduling.for maintenance.work? They certainly.did when I worked there many years ago -I remember sending out letters to the utilities .saying that company X had requested a road closure.on.certain dates, so if they had maintenance.work planned.in the same.area to do it then, as there wouldn't be another road closure permitted for at least a few months afterwards. Times have evidently.chamged, and not for the better!

I'm awake early as I have a lot OMM.. Matilda was awake requesting head rubs, :D bit she's a good girl, as she didn't pull hair or nip, so was rewarded with some biscuit. The kitchen is ready for the engineer's visit, with area round the cooker and the boiler.completely clear. DH is complaining as he can't use the toaster for breakfast or the oven for his lunch ( the cooker is also going to be serviced today, Ive had to take all the roasting tins etc out of the oven, and it needs to be cold to be serviced). I've told him to have cereal for one.amd a sandwich for the other, and not to make a mess!

Today before I leave for church, I need to check the spare room and especially.access.to the airing cupboard - move my steps and the cat tray. The sitting room needs a quick tidy, dust and hoover, and I need to move the rug in front of the fire. Also, scoop all litter trays and take the rubbish out. And remind DH yet again that the gas engineer is coming between 12 and 6 (he usually rings on the day with an ETA). I'll be back as soon as I can, but I do need to pick my up Fred's meds and talk with MQ about the Christmas parish lunch, and also whether I can park at the church for the next two Friday mornings? And, of course, it's raining,.so I'm going to have to find my waterproof and an umbrella. Better get moving!

I hope you had a good morning at church and get all your preps for the gas engineer done, Kitty.
Those dogs look very friendly, trissie! I wonder if they truly? Also very fuzzy. I hope you're having a good day at payroll.

It rained most of the night here. It's gray but not actively raining at the moment.

Today: I'm working out with my trainer at 8 a.m. and then going straight to the NH to visit Mom while I'm out and about. I'll need to get a few groceries but might do that via an order. I'd like to make a lot of progress on Mom's health related paperwork today, as well as change of address cards + 30 minutes on piles. I hope to find out today if the documents sent to the clinic in IL arrived via email -- or if I'll need to put them in the snail mail. I also hope to get the OK re: GGT emails for payroll, but I'll probably do those tomorrow at this point. Later this afternoon, I plan to go downtown and obtain 2 gift certificates to a fav restaurant - gifts from our CG1 to CN (Bday on Sunday) and BG (wedding on Saturday). Good morning

H, hope you have a good visit with your mom.
K, your day always looks so productive
T, I love learning about all the breeds of dogs.

Heading for breakfast with ladies.
R is on a road trip to Virginia to hang with his D and D dungeons and dragon online friends for live games in a cabin for a long weekend. It is a 10 hour drive and he left at 4 a.m. it is pouring rain and has been since before he left, sent a prayer to his guardian angel to keep him safe.

House was to be cleaned today but she postponed until Monday.

Yesterday I exercised and shopped all morning for costume pieces for Saturday and groceries for dessert.

Today I need to finish closet project, create costumes for Saturday and that requires a sewing machine so I will either sit in Cameron's room or bring a card table and my machine up andnif I do that I will sew the grad robes too. I am just adding some yellow elements, making hats and creating a tunic for my husband.we are going to a Tudor inspired event called the Queens's Bash before seeing The King's Wife. We thought it would be fun to dress the part.

Off I go.

Happy Thursday!

helia, I think the tibetan mastiff is more of a guard dog than a family dog, from what I've read about them. Plus, they are super pricy (tens of thousands dollars for a pup, with record prices in millions of USD). So... you aren't really likely to encounter one running around! .-)
We're weather twins right now, kittykatt! There was no rain in the forecast, but it is raining. What can I say?
safe travels for R, CostumeLady! DH is on the road too. They left Michigan yesterday and are on their way to Oregon.
oh, helia, DH's due to come home on the 15th, unless he manages to reschedule. I think their last meeting is in Oregon early next week, because the one on East Coast that was cancelled (but the plane tickets from East Coast to Europe were already bought)

Done with work for the day, Quiet day of research and the inevitable smelly soft thing the ventilator just as I was about to log off, but I hope I ran out quickly enough and will not be caught in the clean-up (who am I kidding?) I did the errands early in the morning, did cleaning in the breaks, and so my concern for the rest of the day is pick up (there's always strays in the house), laundry, and the rest of dailies. Oh, and I've bought two baskets of strawberries, so there will also be jam-making! :-)

That is so long for dh to be away, trissie. Mastiffs are known to be guard dogs, but they look so friendly and fluffy in that picture! False advertising?
Be careful hanging out the window with clippers, L Ann. I guess it's not rainy where you are?
Have fun sewing today, CL.

I'm home from the work out and visiting Mom. She was being fed breakfast in bed and was eating well. She also drank a lot, which is good. I chatted with the caretakers a bit.

Hanging out the window is pretty safe. It is waist high and the bush is right by the window. I won’t do the electric trimmers on even a low ladder because even with the new knee I am not stable enough. Anyway the bushes are trimmed for another year. The camellia bush is 40-50 years old and was planted waaayyy too close to the house by the previous owner.

1-submit Kohls order
2-take clippers and cord back to the shed
3-put last item in trash

Menus
Thursday-pasta/me out
Friday-black bean soup

Events
Thursday-Little Bit 7:40-4, Little Bit Princess and Knight Camp 9:30-2:30, retirement party 4-7
Friday-pick up birthday cake@5:00, no Little Bit

Accomplishments
