The French Bulldog (French: Bouledogue Français) is a French breed of companion dog or toy dog. It appeared in Paris in the mid-nineteenth century, apparently the result of cross-breeding of Toy Bulldogs imported from England and local Parisian ratters. It is commonly kept as a pet and is among the most frequently registered dogs in a number of countries including Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The breed is susceptible to various health problems as a consequence of being bred for a distinctive appearance, sporting a brachycephalic face and skin wrinkles.

The American Kennel Club standard for the French Bulldog states that it should be muscular, with a soft and loose coat forming wrinkles.

The AKC Standard weight for a French Bulldog is at maximum 28 pounds (13 kg). The head of a French bulldog should be square shaped and large, with ears that resemble bat ears. French bulldogs are a flat-faced breed. Eyes that are AKC Standard approved for French Bulldogs are dark, almost to the point of being black; blue eyed French bulldogs are not AKC approved. The coat of a French bulldog should be short haired and fine and silky.[ Acceptable colors under the breed standard are the various shades of brindle, fawn, cream or white with brindle patches (known as "pied"). The fawn colors can be any light through red. The most common colors are brindle, then fawn, with pieds being less common than the other colors. The breed clubs do not recognize any other colors or patterns.

Happy Friday, lovies!

I've had another short night, and so did DS (though his was slightly longer than mine), but his big software project is turned in. It's actually due today at 23:59, but as he's leaving for the hiking trip (till Sunday), it needed to be completed yesterday. So proud of him not throwing a fit and calmly working on it till late! He's always been really bad at stress-inducing deadlines, so this is a big progress.
DH is now -8 hours from us, so he was still working when I was getting up and we said good morning/good night (he generally does at least part of his "normal workload" in the evenings, which easily gets him to 12-14 hour workdays, seven days a week. He's raking up overtime like crazy, but it's blood money!). Only nine more days to go!

helia, you asked yesterday - pork roast braised in milk is an italian recipe, maiale al latte, adapted to slow cooker. There are variations out there, but to get the basic idea:
https://www.notquitenigella.com/2019/07 ... k-italian/

Started this around 6:30, since then Terri has declared she had headache and sore throat, so she ain't going anywhere (not to school today, not the hiking trip, still keeping my fingers crossed for her leaving on Monday), and all other kids have been dispatched. So now off to the regular programming!

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. French bulldogs are adorable, but (over here, at least) have a lot of health problems, mostly due to inbreeding to get the desired shape etc. ( That's one advantage.of calling in at the vet so often, you get to overhear lots of interesting conversations?!) Congratulations to DS getting his assignment finished on time, amd without panicking . I hope Terri feels better soon.

So, it's Friday! :D I've got a busy morning, and then this afternoon I have some garden time planned if it's dry, or mail clipping next with the DKittiies if it's wet!

OTD by 9 am
Coffee with MQ at the church - meeting to try and fix a date for the parish Christmas lunch (there wasn't time today, as MQ was very busy setting things up for the service and for the funeral afterwards
Can I drop my watch off to have a new battery fitted?
12 pm hair cut - me
Afternoon plans -if dry, garden time, if wet, clean fridge, kitty nails etc
DH is out this evening, so can I pick up something for my supper?

Friday
Move dishes from dw to drying rack
Put away dw cart
Set up big drying rack
Hung laundry to dry
Put away the already dry laundry
Set up the small drying rack
Hung the delicates and the laundry bags

Well done, trissie's DS on getting your work done before the deadline, and managing your emotions! I hope that Terri recovers quickly.

French Bulldogs have a lot of health problems here too, Kittykatt. I can hear your dkitties praying for dry weather from here, LOL. And carrying picket signs that say "Gardening, not nail clipping!"

I have my laundry hung, so it's time for me to get ready for bed. I'm back at work tomorrow, but I'm going to apply for VTO (Voluntary Time Off) so I might get off early enough to come back later.

Have a good day!

My aunt (she's my mom's cousin, but the region my mom comes from, if you're even very distantly related and the person is a generation or more older, it's an aunt or an uncle) used to have french bulldogs, and you really wouldn't want to sleep in a room with one, they snore worse than my husband! :-)

Done with work for the day. DBD was supposed to walk from school, but it's raining quite heavily, so I will drive over and pick her up (it's a mile's walk with no less than three public playgrounds on the way, so you can tell why she enjoys the walk). The scout hiking trip got cancelled - the scout leader is ill. And Terri is already feeling better - I wonder whether she was trying a get out of jail free card on me? :-)

L.Ann, is the party at her parents's house, or your house?
Dogged, hoping to see you around before I settle down for the night!
kittykatt, so how's the weather for ya today?

I am definitely not involved in the party planning or hosting, Trissie. I offered to meet the cake baker and pick up the cake but that is the sum total of my involvement.

Thank you trissie for the recipe! I'm very intrigued. I have bookmarked it to try in the future, maybe next week. I love new recipes, especially if they're recommended -- and are simple! I have at least one recipe from L Ann, that I now use regularly. :) And WTG to ds! AND I think Frenchies are really cute!! I've never known someone who had one - except the owner at the gym I go to every Thursday. He occasionally brings his 4 Frenchies to the gym, and there's one who is super friendly and hangs out with me!! LOL! His name is Louis.
Hope you get some garden time, Kitty.
L Ann, is Little Bit turning 4? - Sorry, maybe you've already said. I just don't remember.
Sleep well, Doggedly - and hope you get the VTO.

I'm here late after going to bed super late. I slept in this morning - and then worked on a puzzle until I made a mistake. I'll correct it later. . . Dh is moving his sleep schedule later to help with his trip to Japan on Sunday. I seem to be moving with him. . LOL!

Tonight, we're attending the birthday part of B, a younger man who sometimes comes to our Tuesday dinners. He actually was one of dh's students many years ago - in one of his Univ. classes, not a grad student in his lab. I don't know him well - and I certainly don't know his friends, so I'm not particularly looking forward to it. But it is at a pretty park about an hour away with a lake, so I might do some walking while I'm there.

Other things to do today:
- Postal place: get the paperwork for the auth. to release info from the clinic in IL in the mail + the remote control that accidentally got packed in my Mom's stuff from the NH in IL.
- Obtain 2 gift certificates from restaurant downtown
- Progress on Mom's Health Paperwork
- Payroll: GGT emails
- Walk

My weight is not moving down, so I think I'm going to employ a second tracking system - Noom. I've used Noom and WW together in the past -- it's more work but effective, if I actually keep to the limits. Since I have more time for a couple months, I'll try this again.

I'm not going to post a long list of todos today. I'm going to experiment with a short general list.

Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care

Later
- finish a.m. routine
- prep items for the mail: paperwork for clinic + bubble wrap remote
- postal place
- GGT emails
- 1 hour on other health paperwork for Mom
- change of address cards: 5
- get 2 gift certificates from restaurant
- purchase cards for another weekend of celebrations
- Walk
- B BD party @ park
- update health apps: MFP, N, WW
- duo
- update goodreads?
- continue reading book for fun

TaDas!
- up; weighed self
- coffee
- scheduled out day
- email deletions + weather website: nice - high of 75*F; cloudy now but should get some sunshine later in the day
