Re: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (/tʃaɪˈkɒfski/ chy-KOF-skee; 7 May 1840 – 6 November 1893) was a Russian composer during the Romantic period. He was the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally. Tchaikovsky wrote some of the most popular concert and theatrical music in the classical repertoire, including the ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, the 1812 Overture, his First Piano Concerto, Violin Concerto, the Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy, several symphonies, and the opera Eugene Onegin.
Although musically precocious, Tchaikovsky was educated for a career as a civil servant as there was little opportunity for a musical career in Russia at the time and no public music education system. When an opportunity for such an education arose, he entered the nascent Saint Petersburg Conservatory, from which he graduated in 1865. The formal Western-oriented teaching Tchaikovsky received there set him apart from composers of the contemporary nationalist movement embodied by the Russian composers of The Five, with whom his professional relationship was mixed.
Despite his many popular successes, Tchaikovsky's life was punctuated by personal crises and depression. Contributory factors included his early separation from his mother for boarding school followed by her early death, the death of his close friend and colleague Nikolai Rubinstein, his failed marriage to Antonina Miliukova, and the collapse of his 13-year association with the wealthy patroness Nadezhda von Meck. Tchaikovsky's homosexuality, which he kept private, has traditionally also been considered a major factor, though some scholars have downplayed its importance. His dedication of his Sixth symphony to his nephew Vladimir Davydov and the feelings he expressed about Davydov in letters to others have been cited as evidence for romantic love between the two. Tchaikovsky's sudden death at the age of 53 is generally ascribed to cholera, but there is an ongoing debate as to whether cholera was indeed the cause and whether the death was intentional.
While his music has remained popular among audiences, critical opinions were initially mixed. Some Russians did not feel it sufficiently represented native musical values and expressed suspicion that Europeans accepted the music for its Western elements. In an apparent reinforcement of that claim, some Europeans lauded Tchaikovsky for offering music more substantive than exoticism, and said he transcended the stereotypes of Russian classical music. Others dismissed Tchaikovsky's music as deficient because it did not stringently follow Western principles.

Re: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning ,Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. I love Swan Lake and the Nutcracker too -I remember being taken to see the latter as a child one Christmas (my family didn't "do" pantomimes) and I loved every minute!
Today I am hoping for another quiet, productive day, although with DH home, he may have more things that he has lost for me to find. Gma, I think we definitely have tomte living on our house!
I'm not sure what the weather is doing yet. We're supposed.to be getting a 35C mini heatwave this week, but there's no sign of it yet! I do prefer slightly cooler weather on my more heavy housework days, as it makes things easier, but we shall see!

Re: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
I've managed to squeeze the last bag of recycling into the wheelie bin before the dustmen arrived, and since then I've taken Fred out for a quick sniff, which was all he wanted today, and had a very nice walk along by the stream. I'm currently sitting in my garden, enjoying my coffee, and the scent of all the roses, which is being blown by the breeze.

Re: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Of course - Tchaikovsky! I love the Nutcracker and have seen umpteen versions of it. Some professional - some not. A couple years ago, J11yo was Clara!! She was a very young Clara, maybe 8 or 9? at the time, but she is VERY comfortable on the stage and she did well. She has since stopped taking ballet.
trissie, I hope your busy day is going well.
Your time outside sounds lovely, Kitty - walking by a stream (in a park?) and coffee with the scent of your own roses.
Dh's being out of town means my accountability buddy is out of town. LOL! I had my day of undisciplined "fun" yesterday. It was a quiet - but extremely unproductive day for me. I did visit my mom, but she was taking a nap. Dh had visited her at this same time on Saturday, and she was up in her wheelchair in the common area. Oh well. I guess her daily schedule varies a bit. I think I needed that down day after all the social activity of the weekend. And now I need to get back at it.
Today: The KS2J get together is this morning. This may be the last one for a while as we don't meet as often with the kids out of school. A jog (I never did this yesterday) and a WF trip will be on the docket this afternoon - plus exam prep for payroll. I might take myself to a coffee shop to work on that.
Try #2: Main Goals for the Day
1. KS2J get together
2. Finish Change of address cards --> mail
3. JOG
4. WF
5. 30 minutes on my piles
6. 1 hour on exam prep
Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
Later:
- tidy kitchen
- make the bed
- otd around 10:15
- 10:30 - 12:30-ish KS2J get together
- lunch
- menu plan and groc. list
- dress to jog
- JOG
- WF
- put everything away
- do I need to make a Kroger order as well?
- finish change of address cards
- coa cards ready for the mail
- 30 minutes on piles

trissie, I hope your busy day is going well.

Re: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Thank you for starting us off, trissie, hope your day goes well. I love how you stretch my brain while I go about my boring routines.
Gma, thank you for sharing some of your ancestral culture. I too have at least one tomte causing chaos around here. Trolls are not allowed.
Kittykatt, sending good thoughts for you and Matilda.
Helia, I hope your dmother is thriving in her new home and medical issues are all being treated now. It may be different staff on the weekend is the reason for a different routine.
Yesterday wasn’t stellar when it comes to my own routine. Dh got off work early and came home before his doctor appt, left and then came back earlier than his usual off time, which threw my day all out of whack. I did get basics done and made a little headway into deeper chores so while I wasn’t as productive as I wanted I did okay.
Tada:

Re: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Bama, how could I have forgotten that I have a Czech SHE friend!
helia, a slow day will do wonders for you - and, unlike me, you actually CAN afford one of those!
kittykatt, I think the Nutcracker is a good introduction to classical music and ballet for kids - mine have seen it too (back when I was pregnant with DBD, so the girls were 4 and DS was 6) and they loved it!
Home from work. I could flip a coin whether the more annoying part of my work day was the pointless meeting that took 2 hours, or the research I am working on. It's an electronic library of over 600 entries (some with more than one document) of reports, white papers, recommendations, technical standards and other binding documentation, some relevant for us, some not, some I have no idea what even the acronyms stand for. I'm going over one after another, cataloguing it and assigning appropriate key words to my excel overview. It will be extremely handy in years to come as a source of easily accessible information for further research and decision making process, both by me and some other key persons in the company, but boy, does it give me headaches!
Anyway, home. It's cloudy, with rain forecasted for the night. I'm gonna look like an idiot watering my garden, but I need to give the plants the plant food which is added to watering water, so...
TaDas
- morning madness
- DBD and DS in school on time
- work day

- twins' transportation passes prolonged (must be done in person)
- pick up DBD from school
ToDos
- morning routine
- 15 in master bedroom
- 15 outside
