The Tigris (/ˈtaɪɡrɪs/ TY-griss) is the eastern of the two great rivers that define Mesopotamia, the other being the Euphrates. The river flows south from the mountains of the Armenian Highlands through the Syrian and Arabian Deserts, before merging with the Euphrates and reaching to the Persian Gulf.

The Tigris passes through historical cities like Mosul, Tikrit, Samarra, and Baghdad. It is also home to archaeological sites and ancient religious communities, including the Mandaeans, who use it for baptism. In ancient times, the Tigris nurtured the Assyrian Empire, with remnants like the relief of King Tiglath-Pileser.

The Tigris appears twice in the Old Testament. First, in the Book of Genesis, it is the third of the four rivers branching off the river issuing out of the Garden of Eden. The second mention is in the Book of Daniel, wherein Daniel states he received one of his visions "when I was by that great river the Tigris".

Today, the Tigris faces modern threats from geopolitical instability, dam projects, poor water management, and climate change, leading to concerns about its sustainability. Efforts to protect and preserve the river's legacy are ongoing, with local archaeologists and activists working to safeguard its future.

The Tigris is 1,750 km (1,090 mi) long, rising in the Taurus Mountains of eastern Turkey about 25 km (16 mi) southeast of the city of Elazığ and about 30 km (19 mi) from the headwaters of the Euphrates. The river then flows for 400 km (250 mi) through Southeastern Turkey before forming part of the Syria-Turkey border. This stretch of 44 km (27 mi) is the only part of the river that is located in Syria.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us with another interesting river.

Bama, thank you! Our wedding anniversary was yesterday. We will be celebrating "properly" with lunch out on Thursday.

CL, I think you might enjoy the "canal boat diaries" on the BBC, where Robbie Cummings.tales.his boat along the canals. Yesterday's instalment involved negotiating several locks, retrieving someone.else's boat that had become loose from its mooring, and changing his water pump on his own boat, as well as some stunning scenery, and information about some of the features he passed. I think he must have a drone he sends up to capture some of the aerial views.. It's a very "gentle" programme, but it does capture the changing seasons well.

I did enjoy the talk about bridges. We have Brunel's Clifton suspension bridge, which I think has a certain beauty. At the other end of the scale there are many humpback bridges built of stone, often with just one arch. Any same, normal person would, of course ,slow down to cross over them, but many many years ago as a very irresponsible teenager, I discovered it is possible by driving over them fast in an old car with poor suspension, for it to "take off" and actually achieve flight for a second or two. I can still remember that feeling, never to be repeated in these days of safety consciousness!

BTW, LucyLee, you are definitely not chicken! We all have things we are scared about. Mine (apart from the dentist!) is lifts (elevators?). For years I refused to use them because of a fear of getting stuck in them when the. Roke down mid floor. When I worked in an office I used to get yelled at, but pointed out with perfect truth that the lift in our building broke down regularly at least once a month, so I certainly wasn't going to use it (and raking the stairs is better exercise anyway). These days, if I'm having a "good" day, if I know the lift is well maintained and I've visited the bathroom recently, I can tolerate a short ride in a lift, but that's still as far as it goes.

Dogged, you had a very productive time with the rental car. WTG with your packing. Is it a long trip to your DBro?

I'm enjoying another slower start today. Everyone else is still asleep. The weather outside is cloudy and grey but we're supposed to have some sun. If I can get up and at 'em early, then maybe I could sit in my garden and read later? I'm expecting a phone call from the vets sometime today, either confirming Matilda's appointment for tomorrow with I instructions and reminders about no food after 10 pm, or, if the machine still isn't fixed, then postponing and rearranging.for another date. (I would prefer to get it over and done with this week, as next week is quite busy for me, but, it is what it is!)

Goodmorning KK, Happy Anniversary, how many years? I must leave in 9 minutes to go pick up my hubby from breakfast. I was supposed to meet another wife there but she dropped off her husband and left me, I was only 1 minute late - I thought that was rude and I get the feeling she really doesn't want to spend 45 minutes with me having coffee while we wait on the men to have their breakfast from 7 to 8. This is the second time she has left me high and dry. We even talked about it last Thursday and I said we were coming Tuesday morning before we leave. It really hurts my feelings and I don't think I will go anymore with P on Tuesday. The other woman that also went was her best friend, I went with them twice but she is gone now until September and I think I was a third wheel. I drove home. I made a minute clinic appointment to get UTI medicine, though I am pretty sure I am just passing a kidney stone but a UTI usually follows. We leave tonight so I hope to get that under treatment asap. Appointment is in an hour.

We are basically packed, need to do my toilet kit and hair things and glasses and electronic devices. We want to leave by 1 p.m. to head north - it is a 4 hours drive but we need to stop at Goodwill on the way for son to pick up an object they are holding from an auction and hopefully stop at our favorite restaurant.

I will try to check in during the week if I have good signal.

I hope you don't get a UTI on your travels, CL. Take care of yourself. That is strange re: the other woman. Maybe look elsewhere for friendship?
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary, Kitty! Reading in your garden sounds lovely! I'd love to come join you! :)
Have a good day trissie! Thanks for another river. I'm enjoying this theme!
Safe travels today Doggedly.

The sun is shining and our forecast high is 87*F or 89*F. 2 different temps on the same website -- but hot for us. ☀️

Last night I confirmed that my haircut is at 11 on Friday. I also touched base with KY; I'll make dinner reservations downtown Saturday before the concert. We'll probably get together Saturday afternoon as well. S and K want to go to church with us on Sunday; lunch after would be nice -- but we also need to get packed and out the door Sunday afternoon. AND a nice lunch in a gluten free house is not easy to put together. . .I'm not sure how to navigate that one.

The KS2J get together is not happening this morning as K is getting ready to leave on vacation tomorrow and S2 and J are coming home from vacation this morning. Also, dh decided not to do Tuesday dinner tonight bc he has a lot on his plate with work, his book (a presentation + an interview Wed. evening + prep for the week long workshop), out of town guests at work (from the UK actually) -- and then this weekend is busy - getting together several times with our friends from TX, the Ys + packing for the week long workshop with the publishing co. in the Chicago area AND the CG1 camping trip immediately after. We're leaving Sunday afternoon. I have an open Tuesday to finish the things I didn't do yesterday.

Main Goals for Today
1. Exam Prep Progress
2. Finish the desk area
3. Towel laundry
4. WALK - 1 hour+ ideally
5. Dinner: Chicken cacc., rice green salad
6. Dinner reservations for Saturday night
7. Procure groceries

Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care

Later:
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- make bed
- tidy kitchen
- WALK earlier in the day
- payroll: finish draft of AR exam and send off for review
- payrol: start draft of AIR exam
- declutter books on desk
- lunch
- towels: w d f pa
- clean towels in upstairs bathrooms
- menu plan and groc. ist
- groceries: Kroger? or WF?
- anything else from brain dump list?
- dinner: chicken cacc, rice, green salad
- after dinner clean up
- duo
- update health apps

TaDas!
- up; weighed self - no movement
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website

Wow, we got up to six pages yesterday!

Good morning, all. I am up at a reasonable hour with pared-down expectations of myself what I can get done before I leave. Bama, the weather gods heard me yesterday. It's cooler and threatening rain, so more comfortable for working in the apartment but I might be getting everything wet before it reaches the car. I'm just enjoying the cool right now.

lucylee, I hope that you find your poetry soon, to put your mind at rest.

trissie, that would have been worrying and embarrassing. It might have been found by an adult who discarded that hoping to avoid embarrassing you.

Kittykatt, that is hilarious to picture you flying off of traditional bridges like Dukes Of Hazzard! Hard on your car's suspension, I would think.
It's not a long trip, now that my brother has moved closer. It takes me about 8 hours with two rest stops. I'm there for 5 days including travel days. My weird shifts cut my vacation short. If I take vacation when I have 10-hour shifts, they deduct 10 vacation hours per day instead of 8, so I get less than the minimum 10 vacation days required by law.
I agree with you about the fears. For most of my life, I had an incapacitating fear of ice. I live in Canada. Winters were tough.

Have a wonderful trip, CostumeLady.

Thanks, helia. And if I don't see you before Sunday, have a wonderful trip!

Time to put on a pot of mojo and dive into things.

helia, it makes perfect sense to have a non-commited evening today!
Happy belated anniversary, kittykatt!
CostumeLady, an UTI is definitely not a good travel companion, better to take care of it right away.
Dogged, have fun with your brother!

Home from work. It's hot today! I am so ready for end of school - eight more days - but not ready for either DH's party (this weekend) or us leaving (next weekend). Sitting on my butt will, however, not help with that matter, so off I go!

TaDas
- morning madness
- day at work
- bought a new pair of shoes on my way from a meeting :-)
- pick up DBD from school
- unload DW

ToDos
- morning routine
- load CPot (honey garlic chicken thighs)
- clean master bedroom

☀️ Good morning. A much more leisurely start to my day today since I don’t have anywhere to be unless I choose so. 😎 Pets are tended to and it’s thundering so I’m going to read some before I tackle the house.

Lucy, yep, you have to go in one of two tunnels to enter Mobile from the east, one old very narrow one or the newer slightly wider one with a curve into and out of which slows traffic tremendously on I10, or over a high bridge that seems to point a car’s nose straight up into the air as you ascend, which takes you over neighborhoods of houses and old warehouses.
Dd1 did an internship in southern Florida last year and we were going to visit and ride out to key west with her driving but it wasn’t meant to be (taking care of dh’s mom and brother), I’m not too disappointed as being surrounded by water on one very long road was going to be challenging as well. I’m a big chicken too lol. No wonder I’m a homebody! I’m scared of everything.

Trissie, how weird to keep one paper that would be very obvious as to why you kept it. They may not have even noticed your name and address if the content was so attention grabbing. There’s your second career, writing adult novels.
Thanks for the start and info. Dh was baptized in a river and I think that is so cool. I think all rivers are in danger from big business. Our local ones are huge dumping grounds from companies and cities waste. I wouldn’t eat anything out of Mobile Bay although people do still fish and swim in it. Bacteria levels remain too high for me. How neat that the Tigris is mentioned in the Bible, I love the history of older countries.

Kittykatt, I’m glad you had a good anniversary and dh was able to take vacation for the week. Any bridge with the word “suspension” in the name makes me lightheaded thinking of it lol. I’ll have to look up Robbie Cummings. Hope the machine is fixed and tested before tomorrow.

Costumelady, that person doesn’t sound very nice to ditch you after you made plans. Hope your stone passes and you have a good trip.

Helia, you and your husband are so busy, are you going camping? May I ask, where does your mind go when you walk or run for long periods? I get so bored trying to walk, I have to be in the mood for music and I haven’t found any podcasts that I really enjoy. Audio books are ok but I lose the topic if something catches my attention in the yard that I need to note to take care of…

Dogged, stay dry out there. Lol at the Dukes of Hazard reference. Safe travels to your brother.

Seems we are trying to post at the same time, every time I submit there’s a new post. Maybe I should stop adding to mine.

Bama, I am rather happy writing contracts, but I will keep in mind that if that no longer pays the bills, I could go into the adult novel genre, as apparently my works were worth keeping! :-) Yay for not having to be anywhere!
