The Seine (/seɪn, sɛn/ sayn, sen, French: [sɛn] ) is a 777-kilometre-long (483 mi) river in northern France. Its drainage basin is in the Paris Basin (a geological relative lowland) covering most of northern France. It rises at Source-Seine, 30 kilometres (19 mi) northwest of Dijon in northeastern France in the Langres plateau, flowing through Paris and into the English Channel at Le Havre (and Honfleur on the left bank).] It is navigable by ocean-going vessels as far as Rouen, 120 kilometres (75 mi) from the sea. Over 60 percent of its length, as far as Burgundy, is negotiable by large barges and most tour boats, and nearly its whole length is available for recreational boating; excursion boats offer sightseeing tours of the river banks in the capital city, Paris.

There are 37 bridges in Paris across the Seine (the most famous of which are the Pont Alexandre III and the Pont Neuf) and dozens more outside the city. A notable bridge, which is also the last along the course of the river, is the Pont de Normandie, the ninth longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, which links Le Havre and Honfleur.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for another interesting river to start the day. You sound d very organised for your party -Im sure it will be a great success.

Have fun at the cabin, Gma! I'm glad you were able to enjoy a meal with your DMum that you had to neither cook nor clean up after! I'm glad you enjoyed the predecimal money account.

In case anyone was wondering why we didn't have a note higher than £5 in value , the reason was, it wasn't needed. I've come across records of a cottage built in the 17th century, which first sold for £4 and "some sheep"! DF PM's grandparents bought their house (which she now lives in) for around £300, and my parents first house (on a new build 1950s estate) cost around £500, with a deposit to secure it of £5. (Of course, they had a mortgage to cover the rest).

L.Ann, I'm glad you're also having time to relax -It hope the billing issue is sorted.

Harriet, I'm positive you're right, and KitKat uses SW/ SW for "swish and swipe". Myself , I use S& S or S/S to mean the same thing - for me it's just a *very* quick clean of the toilet, wipe down/ squeegee (sp?) of the shower and quickly polish all the taps. The last task, I feel gives the most reward for little effort, as it helps make the bathroom look sparkly. When I worked outside the home, I would get this done during the 7 am news bulletin on the radio, which lasted only 2-3 minutes!

Today is forecast to be hot again, so I really need to get my lunch prep for tomorrow and baking done while the kitchen is still in the shade and relatively cool. I also need to rechecky.measurememts of the kitchen where I was trying to work out where we could accommodate a larger fridge, and where everything else that's moveable (pedal bins, steps etc) would go. 11 pm is not the best time for accurate measurements! In the meantime I have asked DH to be sure and close the door firmly (the seal isn't good, so it needs a bit of a "push"), so the temperature sensor doesn't get confused and the light starts flashing, and we then have to Scrabble on the floor to briefly unplug the fridge to "reset" it! I'm hoping it will carry on for a few more weeks at least (I have a fridge thermometer so I can check the inside temperature is what it should be) until Petplan have agrees in writing to pay Matilda's vet bill, and Amazon Prime day on 8-11th July. We won't necessarily buy the fridge from Amazon, but other stores won't want to be left out, so will almost certainly launch their own sales in competition!

I'm not sure of DH's plans for today yet, (edited to add: he and his DF A are going to the model railway exhibition at the livestock centre) but on my list for today is to give my pots their weekly feed. Ideally, that needs to be done either early or late, when the sun isn't on them! Some housework would be good, and I need to file paperwork if I can get DH out of the spare room/ office. He has plans to reorganise that room - I have advised him to be sure and measure first, as we need to be able to access all the power points easily, and also be able to open the door fully!

Measure again in kitchen - where woul new fridge go? What are the maximum measurements? Will the bins etc fit in the gap currently occupied by present fridge? I also need to start getting the surplus dolls house furniture for sale in eBay (many of the items I wanted came as a "job lot" so I have things left over that I'm not going to need. There is no room for "another dolls house" in the house, (although I was tempted!) so all the bits and pieces I know I'm not going to use need to be listed for sale. I will, of course, keep a few pieces, in case I decide to turn that second bedroom back into a bedroom rather than use it as a music room, but I don't need six spare beds and four wardrobes!!! To make my life easier, I'll probably sell the surplus as job lots, so I don't have numerous boxes everywhere!

trissie, thnaks for the start and the French river. I remember reading your long list of preps for your DH's birthday party in the past, and now I read it again and think your DH is a very lucky man.

kittykatt, I hope you're enjoying the cold hours of the morning and can find shelter from the hot hours. We have had yesterday the hottest day in a long time. (well the days were hotter when we lived in the South of France, but here in Brittany it is so unusual to have 30°C or higher!) I didn't know about your fridge projects, I need to CUOP over a few days.

Fresh morning, yesterday night was our street party with neighbours. We have another one next week with the closer neighbours - apparently we're invited to both parties but some neighbours don't mignle with the other group, ... I'm still discovering things here... ANyway we had a nice time and the kids enjoyed themsleves with the neighbouring kids. DS9 fell and sctached his upper lip, so today he doesn't want to go to his athletics practice this morning.

Good morning, FFB! Street parties are such fun -I'm glad you're feeling part of the local community. Congratulations to Mr NG on his second interview for the job. BTDT with the shirt situation. I ended up buying DH a couple of really nice good quality white shirts from M&S. They work well for concerts, weddings, funerals and any other formal occasions.

The fridge saga is ongoing. Our current fridge, which fits under the worktop, is very old, and has started regularly showing a flashing light on the temperature sensor. (I know it's still in a safe temperature range, as I have a fridge thermometer inside, so I can check. ) The seal on the door has deteriorated over the years, so unless you make an effort to ensure the door is closed it doesn't shut properly. And, of course, DH keeps forgetting. I don't *think* Freddie has learned how to open the door yet (although our first cat had learned how to open my the fridge and help himself to anything he fancied , so we had to use a child lock!) but at this rate it won't be long. A new door seal isn't cheap, and the fridge also needs new shelves and a new salad crisper, as they have all cracked with age. Also, I don't know if there is something really wrong with it's thermostat/ cooling mechanism or not. So, a new fridge is going to be the answer. And it will almost certainly be more energy efficient than our old fridge, so we should save some money on the electric bill.

DH has said he would like a larger fridge, which won't fit under the worktop, but the bins would fit underneath instead, so freeing up floor space where we could put the fridge. But, I need to measure carefully, to ensure everything will fit where we would like it to go, and ensure that the kitchen door will still open properly!!!

I also want to wait, if possible, until Petplan have approved the claim to pay the vet directly for Matilda's dental procedure earlier this week (I had an email from them this morning, saying they have approved Fred's claim for his bloods /x-rays etc which was more than Matilda's bill, so there shouldn't be any difficulties, but, of course, one never knows). And with sales coming almost certainly coming up in July, and again over the August bank holiday weekend, I'm hoping we'll be able to take advantage of those.

We've had a little rain this morning. DH joked it was my fault, because I gave the front garden a really good soaking last night. But the sun is starting to come out again. So far this morning , I have written a long email to a DF who's cat has just been diagnosed with kidney disease , found DH's phone for him, and also told him what the reading will be for church tomorrow (I have the Lectionary on my phone, so I can consult that, which saves time ringing and emailing people!). DH has just left , so my plan now is to take Freddie out, then do some housework, and then do my lunch prep cooking/baking while the kitchen is still reasonably cool.
