Thrive on Thursday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Yesterday LadyM said
I'm in my groove and loving it.
I think there's something about these long days of summer that can be energizing, especially for those of us with seasonal depressive tendencies in the winter. The heat complicates it all, obviously.

As a group we exhibit so many of the behaviors associated with living a good life - thriving. Socializing, exercise, friendships, family, faith - we have it all within our little village. Are there specific behaviors you associate with thriving - living a life that matters?

"Thrive" means to prosper, flourish, or grow vigorously. It suggests a state of success, health, and well-being, often in a challenging environment.

Good morning

Twins - thank you for the start. I do love reading and thinking about the definition of thrive.

I need to remind myself of the highs and lows of life. We go through the highs of life as well as its challenges. I try to cherish and savor the good moments, storing those memories to help me navigate through the tough times.

Yesterday wasn't a good mental day for DH. Nothing major happened but there was several small situations that showed he wasn't thinking clearly. DH wanted to go buy some fuel additive for the weedeater. I explained that we recently bought several cans of already mixed fuel for it. He couldn't find those gallon cans so DS16 and I teamed up to help him find the fuel to put into the weedeater. They were in the shop on the shelf where they belonged and in clear sight. DH couldn't grasp that the fuel already has the additives and kept trying to mix it like he did for many decades. We thought DH was good about the fuel but found out later that he poured the special fuel into a plain plastic can. The weedeater never did get the special fuel put into it.

I recently bought a perpetual daily calendar for DH. It is too complicated for him and causes more frustration in not knowing the date/day. I'm not giving up on this yet. I ordered a different one with hopes that will be helpful. I probably should just get a white board and write the day/date on it each morning. As simple of a task that is, I am trying to not add to my daily todo's and keep it where DH can do it himself.

it's 71 degrees right now after a heavy rain yesterday but the humidity is 83 % humidity.

it's supposed to stay in the 70's which is a blessing!

I have to call the helper company for next week - I hope they have someone for longer hours and night time (maybe?)

time to get started - dogs have been fed - I have been fed :D dh is up
mom is sleeping.
hoping for a good day with mom.
I have cleaning ladies coming.
wanting peace in the next week -

my mom has a clock that shows the date each day - the day of the week and the time - am/pm - very simple and answers her questions about what today is. Clocks for seniors type thing - black with white lettering - simple - it's very easy for her even now. easy to read and big enough for her to notice but can easy go on the counter or bathroom vanity etc. she can't change it -

Thank you bw2, hoping for a good day for you, too, and all in the village!

I'm running way late with the clean up for dcleaning lady but she's not going to be here until around 10 a.m. so I have extra time. Long list for today, I need to do some prioritizing because it's probably not all happening. Yesterday after my trip out I wasn't productive. I was pleased about getting the stuff off that hard drive - alas, what I wanted wasn't there. (Files on the hard drive were placed there in 2007!) I took a short nap - not sure if I slept but felt refreshed, then played genealogy awhile. Dh and I didn't even cook last night - had a "Charcuterie" night with deli roast beef rolled up, veggies and humus, watermelon, cheese and crackers, etc.

I have my workout today and we're going out for dinner tonight. We miss A and V - they will be back next week from their long trip. Dinner tonight is with someone I reconnected with at dh's retirement party that the firm did - a chance to catch up. I always liked this couple, and worked with her for years in public accounting.

I need to get busy. I have sheets going already, although I never got to the upstairs sheets yesterday.

LadyM, I think my mother probably used the newspaper, which was delivered daily when she lived at home, to keep up with the date and day. I think she could never adapt after she moved to assisted living, although they had message boards with the day and date in the common room.

"Stay safe, please, because we need you", said Cathy yesterday in response to Twins' preparedness thoughts and weather patterns for some of our villagers. Quite true.

Twins', how is dh's foot?

Ramblin', how are the insect bites?

Mystery, thinking of you and hoping things are going well.

vergerswife also comes to mind in her new normal in her household.

Oh, LadyM, I hope for you two that today will be a better day. I know that frustration about the mixed and not-mixed cans, btw, and thinking there's enough of the one you need but nope, it's only the other one that's full, etc., etc.

Thrive - gee, I hope so. I'm definitely trying to thrive. Nutrition and eating for feeling well - that seems to be a success for me lately. Water drinking is okay. Exercise keeps being two steps forward, one back. Sleep is also okay, but improving it has obstacles.

I hope to fill in most of my household habit tracker with checkmarks today.

Tomorrow, I have an injection appt 40 minutes away, which we have timed at 2 hours there. Sigh. It's at 9:30, so that's the whole morning.

Hi!

I was up extremely early thanks to Baby cat wanting to get outside. I had compost, 2 bags of garbage and 1 bag of recycling to get to the end of the driveway. All litter boxes got cleaned yesterday and I took the garbage out last night.

I really need to focus on paperwork today. Dishwasher needs to be emptied. I also had to wash the bedsheets this morning. They should be finishing up at any moment. Dh requested a bean salad and I have already made it.

There has been a bit of rain this morning, which is so nice.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.
