Deep Summer Respectability

Post by Twins' Mom »

"Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability."

It's like a get out of jail card, take it easy in the heat today, take some time to be lazy too! It's hot out there!

Glad to be here among all the respectable folks, some (not all) of whom may be fanning themselves and marveling at the heat.

"Don't get overheated," was a regular reminder by wiser heads when I was young. Work sometimes moved indoors or to smaller projects.

Thankful for car air-conditioning, I'll be out all of the afternoon.

Ddolder is giving a presentation/speech today to all the Deans at one of our universities. She doesn't particularly want to lecture them and undoubtedly, they don't particularly want to hear it, but it is an edict from on high. Everyone has to be on the same page about AI.

We had hoped that she could take me today, but she will still be away when we have to leave and go in a different direction. She has to go straight home because her youngest has an event.

If HRH simply can't stay with me the whole time, I can call one of the other kids and wait on them until they arrive after work. He doesn't like the idea, but I see no reason why not.

Morning y’all…

I am finally feeling better… not 100% but close to it. Still very tired, but at least I’m up, dressed and started my laundry.

I have foot prints all over my house, so I’ll focuse on those first after I finish my coffee. Washed a load of laundry last night so I need to flip it and start a new.

Have you seen the floods in NM? My friend lives there and says these are terrible. Fortunately she lives a bit higher up, but it is her town you are seeing videos of. She’s been posting her own flood videos. This area is prone to these types of flood, but she tells me they are the worst shs ever seen.

I only have tw things I’m going to focus on… my footprints and my laundry. My piano keyboard arrived this past Friday and it is still sitting in its box. May wait to open it tomorrow. I’m excited about it, but too sick to care.

Of to start my day…waving to y’all

Thank you for opening us up today Twins' Mom!

I was up early and dh was snoring. Cats were already outside. If it wasn't for my bladder, I would have stayed in bed and tried to get back to sleep.

We had one heck of a marvelous thunderstorm last night. Thankful for the rain. Today seems cooler although it is over 80 degrees without the humidex. I haven't seen or heard a weather report this morning.

Nice to see LucyLee and RRose posting again. Good luck today Harriet.

Asking how people freeze corn for a possible project this weekend. Dh says he thinks it will need to be blanched before being arranged on trays before being bagged. Corn is practically being given away at the grocery stores this weekend. Just over 10 cents per ear. I've never frozen corn before.

Hot hot hot, and humid here. Dog walked already, a.m. routine well underway. Dh will be leaving soon I hope for trip to ATL to pick up friends at airport.

I told him I'm trying to maintain what we have re: the house cleanliness and tidiness.

OMM for today:
-Zoom meeting at 12:30 for 30 min or so. Need to be home for that.
-Grocery (things forgotten yesterday in Instacart order) ordered sliced deli meat to pick up when I get there
-script from pharmacy, they were out of stock but meds on order, hoping to get there today because I'm out after Sat p.m.
-last minute questions for caterer
-trip to mall area for return and possible clothing type retail therapy
-What else?

Good morning!

DC turns 23 today — how did that happen? Their girlfriend is coming over to make us all dinner, so I need to finish clearing my things off the dining table.

DC informed us last night that they were gifted with concert tickets for their birthday… and that the concert was in New Jersey. They’re going with a group of friends she’s met online, one of whom (the one who gave her the ticket) we’ve already met (along with her husband). We reminded them that 1) we left them and their sister in London for a week after their cousin’s wedding, and they flew home without us, 2) we dragged the kids along to visits with Dee and helia, so we’re not worried about the online friends, and 3) they’re 23! (And yes, we should be able to drive them to the airport and pick them up.) So that’s in a little less than 2 weeks.

Debating opening the doors to the dining room and closing the door to the kitchen, to include the DR in the air conditioned area. It would be nice to have a cool place to celebrate, but it will push the air conditioner to its limits.

Back from getting birthday cards (and DD got presents). I did open up the dining room after all.

Hoping all Harriet’s appointments go well. Glad to see Rose is feeling better, at least a little. Hoping blessed is able to do more than wave today.

Going to clean off that table now. Will probably put some lunch in the toaster oven first.

Wow, I really should have thought out today better, lol. The zoom was at 2 p.m. my time, not 12:30. This was with the gal I'm mentoring. Once I realized that I got to Jjill and made return, and purchased something else. I also made it to the grocery store and bank, and realized I hadn't put a letter in the mailbox at home, so I took it to post office near bank. And received email back from caterer with questions answered. And made it back here in time for the 2 p.m. zoom.

So that brings me to the drugstore. They don't take phone calls, so I need to make the trip to see if they received my meds or if I have to fill it elsewhere because I need it before the weekend is out. Ah, nevermind. I just looked online and it says script is in process and available to pick up after 6 p.m.

So I'm off the hook as far as going out right now.

I've eaten terribly today. Lots of days I don't eat "brunch" until noon or later and I assumed I'd be okay not eating much this a.m. I ate a banana, which must have sent blood sugar up and then dropping because I was ravenous. Went through Starbucks for iced latte and breakfast sandwich and it didn't hold me. At the grocery I picked up some prepared "popcorn" chicken. Never tried it before but seemed like mostly breading. I ate enough to get me through but the rest went in the garbage.

I'm late getting here today.
LadyM, how is ds16 feeling? Any more pain?
He is still experiencing a high level of pain if any pressure is put on that area (tail bone). Sitting is the most painful position. His activities right now revolve around sitting while driving (vehicle, tractors, loaders, etc) so everything he wants to do is a painfilled experience.
He typically refuses to take any drugs….not even an aspirin. We had some more conversations about wise use of OTC meds when needed. He has agreed to take Tylenol for a couple days. He will be on antibodies for several more days. Hopefully each day will get a little less painful & easier for him. They start a huge field tomorrow with hundreds of bales of hay to haul. He has his heart set on being able to participate in that "fun"
TMI WARNING - Just got a phone call from him saying the cyst popped. Hopefully that means the pain will be reduced.
LadyM, when you say you went through "every single item," in the room, you are talking about cleaning out closets, drawers, EVERYTHING, right?
Yes, I touched and looked at every item in drawers, shelves, and closets. As I touched and held each item, I made decisions about what to keep and what to release. I am still keeping too much, but it is reduced each time I go through the items. The more times I do decluttering the easier it becomes. For me, it is mostly a mental process of being willing to let it go.
It helps that I am making preliminary plans to move in 5 years to a smaller place. The teens will be legal adults and mostly likely living on their own. In 5 years this place is going to be a bigger space than we need and bigger than I want to maintain. I can either get rid of the extra unused items now or then. STUFF accumulates so easily. I think about these things when i am going through the drawers, closets, shelves and it helps me to be able to let it go. I have a LONG way to go - I might be 20% done.
