Post by Kittykatt »

Wagon Wheels are a sweet snack food sold in the United Kingdom as well as other Commonwealth countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and India. They are also sold in Ireland. They consist of two biscuits that form a sandwich with a marshmallow filling, and they are covered with a chocolate-flavoured coating.

Wagon Wheels were invented by William Peschardt, who sold the patent to Garry Weston, son of W. Garfield Weston. Garry Weston worked for his father's business in Australia before taking over his family's business in Sheffield, England. He placed two Marie biscuits around a marshmallow filling and covered it with chocolate. They were introduced in 1948. The name (originally "Weston Wagon Wheels") relates to the shape of the biscuits and capitalised on the Wild West, which was popular in mass media at the time.

In Australia, Wagon Wheels are now produced by Arnott's Biscuits. George Weston Foods Limited sold the brand to Arnott's in August 2003.

In the United Kingdom Wagon Wheels are produced and distributed by Burton's Foods who separated from the Weston family connection when they were sold out of Associated British Foods in 2000. The original factory which produced the biscuit was in Slough but during the early 1980s production was transferred to an updated and modern factory in Llantarnam in South Wales.

Weston had been producing biscuits on the Slough site since 1934 and the Llantarnam site since 1938.

In Canada, Wagon Wheels were originally produced by McCormick's, however they are now under the Dare Foods Limited name.[1] They come in Original, Fudge, Choco Cherry, and Raspberry flavours.

There have been many debates amongst fans of the biscuit about its size. Wagon Wheels have supposedly shrunk in size over time, but Burton's Foods Ltd has denied this. It has been suggested that the supposed shrinkage is due to an adult's childhood memory of eating a Wagon Wheel held in a much smaller hand; this argument is perhaps moot, as it does not explain why the modern Wagon Wheel appears to be fatter than the original. Furthermore, in Australia, Arnott's has stated that tray packs of Wagon Wheels were in fact 'Mini Wagon Wheels' and have re-released the original 48g Wagon Wheels.

As of 2006 the diameter of the Australian version is measured at 88 mm (3.5 in) which is 14 mm (0.55 in) larger than the UK version, while the UK Wagon Wheel is notably thicker by 4 mm (0.16 in).

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday!

Sleep well, Dogged!

How kind of your DS and DGS to work in your gutters and garden, Gma, I'm sorry your DMum is struggling ATM . It must be very hard to watch, even though everyone knows the NHS is the best place to meet her needs and provide her round the clock care. I don't know if an animatronic "pet" would help her at all? They are becoming more widely used over here, and do seem to help elderly people who, realistically can't have a "living" pet .

Today is a sunny start. DH goes to the office today and I need to get moving !

Good morning, Kittykatt. Thank you for starting us off. That's an interesting idea about the animatronic pet. It could bring Gma's mother some comfort.

Thanks for the interesting start, kittykatt.
Mid May, I had my brother order a little toy stuffed dog for Mom. It's not robotic, just stationary. But how she loves it! I bought a soft baby hair brush so she can brush it too. It has a basket to sleep in. It does give her some comfort. She says she loves it, and that she talks to it a lot.
That link has lots of helpful information!

Good morning Doggedly.
Hello Kitty! What are you up to today? It looks like it's an at home day for you. I have not heard of those cookies, but they sound enormous!
That's great that your mom loves the stuffed dog, Gma. At my mom's NH, there are some very nice baby dolls that some of the residents enjoy caring for. Not my mom though.

I'm here, drinking coffee, trying to wake up. At 8:40 a.m. LOL! We got home from the AJR concert last night at midnight. They didn't start playing until 9:30 pm  - but it was a super fun concert, very energetic, funny, and with interesting visual effects. I didn't realize how many of their songs I knew!! AJR is a band of 3 brothers (Adam, Jack, and Ryan), though Adam is not touring this year as he got a PhD in climatology and is writing a book. Or so my dd27 says. LOL!

It's already 75*F out there so I need to get in my jog asap. Today is "the hill" day.

Good morning/good afternoon, Dogged, Gma and Helian!

Dogged, when I first read about the animatronic pets I wrongly assumed they were similar to the walking/ talking toy dogs of my childhood. These were battery operated a d when the switch was pressed, would stiffly walk for a few paces and then stop and yap. Loudly. Looking back, I can totally understand why my parents would not allow one! But these are one a completely different on level altogether.

Gma, I'm glad your DMum has the stuffed toy dog she can care for. I think the need to nurture is something that often stays.

I'm glad you enjoyed the concert, Helian ,. despite the late night. :D Yes, today is a day at home for me. No appointments! :D

I was up reasonably early and tidied upstairs.amd fave it a quick dust and hoover. Amd homed / donated/ binned a pile of "stuff" that had accumulated by my side of the bed. I e taken Fred out for a long (for him!) walk, and tidied the front garden. It's starting to get dry out there again, so I need to water, but not until the evening. Then DF PM rang me to talk over something, and we were on the phone for an hour and a half! I had a hand free, so I did a little detailed cleaning of those nooks and crannies in the kitchen where dirt tends to accumulate. I've also admired G13yo's nails (pale pink polish with blue tips) which she had done before they went away for the weekend. (So long as G uses her own money for this, DF CW is quite happy about this, and in any case, G will have to take it all off before school starts at the beginning of September).

Now I need to make some proper progress min the kitchen - I'll go back out in the garden and get my walk in this evening when it's cooler.

You guys are the original "write it down" subscribers. I can't believe your lists, and the capacity to write it down and keep up. Are some of the lists recopied day to day? Trying to figure it out...
